The saturation of…read morechiropractors in this part of town is wildly overwhelming, so I did what any normal person would do: I chose the one nearest to my apartment. And I got lucky. I've been treated by a few chiropractors over the past 8 years or so, and Dr. Mitch is by far the most thorough. On my first visit, I expected a swift neck adjustment and a few hefty taps with the activator to tide me over until the pain came back, which is what my previous chiropractor always did. My experience here was quite different. The initial consultation was excellent -- the office was quiet and there were no other patients looming, so I had the doctor's full attention. He asked me where the pain was, what it felt like, how often it was happening, whether anything I did made it better or worse, how bad it got when it was at its worst, what it felt like now, etc. He also asked whether I was comfortable with having neck adjustments. I felt like he really took the time to understand the issues rather than just slapping on a Band-Aid and shoving me out the door. Next, he took me into an adjustment room where I spent a blissful few minutes with a heat pad on my back. His adjustments (at least, in my case) were manual, and he spent a lot of time before the adjustments determining where my ribs (and everything else) were lining up. Afterward, he helped me with some stretches. I was really impressed with the amount of care, attention and time he afforded me. Remarkably, unlike my previous chiropractors, Dr. Mitch didn't "recommend" that I come back three times a week for six months or any other ridiculousness for people with infinite time and money. Instead, he helped me to narrow down the likely root cause of my head/neck/shoulder pain and suggested modifying my posture SO THAT I WOULDN'T NEED TO COME IN AS OFTEN. He didn't pressure me to make another appointment or offer anything unnecessary. Dr. Mitch's greatest asset, though, is that he's a great communicator, both in terms of the treatment he provides and in general. I don't think I've ever had so much fun hanging out in a doctor's office. It was like spending time with a friend. I can recommend Optimal Health to anyone who wants thorough, friendly and effective treatment without the scare tactics that other chiropractors use in order to siphon your money.

I had trouble sleeping, could not sit comfortably, and was in almost constant muscular pain in my back. As someone who is very physically active, I was nervous about seeing someone who might recommend that I discontinue physical activity for a period of time while they worked on my back. Dr. Boyce did an initial assessment and found that my spine was out of alignment and causing a lot of unnecessary muscular tension to compensate. He and Dr. Keuss identified a 6-week treatment plan for me, involving chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, and ART. They fit my treatment plan into the window of time that I had before moving to another country. After the first five adjustments I really started to see a difference. I could sleep through the night without worrying about waking up periodically to back pain. I was back doing all spine strengthening exercises in yoga class, which I had stopped doing due to the pain. I was sitting on flights to Europe without any trouble. Their office is clean, their staff is friendly, and their work has saved me a lot of pain! Highly recommend!

I have good insurance and still ended up with a $600 bill (after insurance was applied) after only 5 appointments. After looking at the detailed invoice, they charge upwards of $80 for "exercises" you do during the appointment, which literally are a total of 5 minutes long where you do two different exercises (i.e. standing up against a wall with your hands up or doing some other simple exercise). They will make it seem like they are extremely invested in your well-being and your journey to a pain-free back, but after these appointments I realized that each appointment was rushed and it seemed like they cared more about getting you into as many appointments as possible and charging high rates. You are better off at smaller chiropractors in Chicago that will charge HALF the price Boyce Chiropractic does.

He quickly took the time to explain the benefits of stretching 30 minutes in the morning and in the evening at my comfort level. He actually made me sit down in his office and perform a few stretched and how to "properly do this". I didn't even know there was an art to stretching properly. I was an athlete / previous baseball player and what they had me do back in the day was actually quite wrong.
