Gas prices were fair, they had a decent amount of pumps, and the location is in a good spot.

The gas at this ARCO Ampm on the Northwest corner of Monterey and Varner is super cheap (not just cheap for being in the desert). Best of all, there is easy access on and off the 10 Freeway off the Monterey Ave exit. Just be aware that as an ARCO you can pay for your gas with cash or an ATM card (for a $.35 fee) but they don't accept The restrooms were clean, but out of paper towels and there was no interior door handle. I was going to dock them a star for that, but the cashier and male employee working there were super friendly and went out of their way to help me find what I was looking for. I really wanted pretzels, but couldn't seem to find any. One of the employees walked around the store with me (the chips were spread out into several different spots) and he found the pretzels just after I gave up. He got extra points from me for persistence. There is a Chase ATM inside if you need to pick up some cash, and a propane tank exchange outside ($24.99 with exchange tank, $59.99 without). This could be very important if you're planning a holiday barbecue or camping trip. There is an air and water refilling station on the Northeast corner of the lot. The soda fountain carried both Coke & Pepsi products for those who have a preference. There were three different diet options: Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and Diet Dr. Pepper. This is a very convenient refueling station if you're headed out to Palm Springs or to points farther East. I'd definitely stop here in the future. read more

So my 3 year old pooped in her pull up, like potty training kids do. We went into the store and were planning to buy drinks, snacks and gas after getting my kiddo cleaned up. The restroom door was open and I saw there was no one in there and the changer was free but a female employee stepped inside and was clearly about to clean. I smiled at her and said, I just need to change my daughter really quick, is that ok? She said with no expression nor sympathy, then you're going to have to wait. We stood and watched her squirt cleaner into the toilet and clean up for a few minutes. She was then called to help at the cash register but instead of saying, hey use the changer while I'm gone, she pulls a mop and bucket in front of the bathroom door to block entry. I asked, so I should just go somewhere else then? She said yeah you should because if you stay, you'll have to wait. We left. Didn't buy anything. We're currently driving down the highway until we find another place to stop and change my daughter. It's been about 10 minutes and I'm sure the poop is drying on my kid's booty as I type this. She could have been kind or at the very least sympathetic. There were no other women in the store waiting to use the restroom and she had not gotten the floor wet so I can't even make the excuse that maybe she was trying to keep things fair and safe for customers. She was just being rude. She was rude to her coworker that politely asked her to help at the register too. She should find a different job and get stuck with a poopy diaper in the near future. read more

There is only 1 unisex bathroom so the line was huge. They charge you $1 to use your credit card. Overall an unpleasant stop.

I don't normally get gas here because I don't like the fee I have to pay at the pump but I was almost out and had no choice. I had my grandson asleep in the car with me and I didn't want to have to carry in the whole car seat to go pay I called the store and a very nice lady came outside to meet me so that I could get gas and be on my way. They tried to add unsubstantiated fees to my credit card for simply paying for 2 items totaling over $5. There is no posting for these charges. Only a posting for $.35 for using a debit card. I asked to see substantiation of such charges and they said they had nothing in writing. This is illegal and they should be audited. read more

Stopped to get a soda on the way home from a trip. Got sodas and stood in line behind a lady counting out change so the girl had me go to another line and then went back and helped her and the next person behind her and had me wait and wait and then we she came back I handed her $10.00. She took the money and I held out my hand for the change and she threw my change on the counter and walked away with a smirk. read more

Nothing special here. Good selection inside, the credit card machines are broken outside so you have to go in to buy gas.

Standard fare here......open all hours..... tricky to gwt in n out during shift change... arco gas is just cash or debit with 35 cent surcharge....usually quick in n out. Lots of stations. So frustrated. I realize Arco is the low cost alternative, but I still expect a modicum of service. I've been buying gas there for years. Today we tried to put air in a tire that's low. The machine took air OUT and now my husband is changing a tire in the desert heat. The employee inside (Helen) is unconcerned. Alternately tells us the machine was working earlier and it does not belong to Arco. I suggested she put up a sign so other customers don't suffer the same fate. She didn't think that was necessary. In no way did she try to own the problem or help her customers. Wonder what she would do if the gas pump malfunctioned? I suggest everyone stay away. read more
