If i hadn't complained and threw a fit....the cost would have been more than double of what I ended up paying. They are very expensive plus charge an additional monthly fee for a year which they do absolutely nothing to earn. If you need additional work you still have to pay for it even though you pay this monthly fee. While they were here they damaged my closet door in which they did not take responsibility for. When I mentioned it to him, he just laughed. So not only did I have to pay almost 10,000. For the work, plus the 11.00 monthly fee now I have to replace my closet door. They state the following right on their website, regarding why they need to come to your house and charge you a fee to provide a quote : "There is no way for an electrician to know exactly what type of wiring methods, styles, and materials are in your home without a visit to your home. Each home's floor plan, size, foundation style, and attic accessibility is different than the next. All these variables come into play when calculating the price to do any type of electrical work. Without knowing these variables, it is just not possible to give you an accurate price to do your work. " However, for my requested electric panel replacement, the quote a single flat price for "Deluxe Panel Replacement Package". That price didn't take into account any specifics of my home. It was one flat pre-printed price in a brochure-type booklet. They charge this same fee even if my home requires half the work of another home (ie. a home with 30 circuits vs mine with 10). Their "Questions to Ask Other Contractors" lists "Get a price breakdown, not just a lump sum fee", but they themselves refused to provide this. "Deluxe Panel Upgrade Package" and the dispatch fee. That's as broken down as they get. This company says one thing, but does the opposite. read more

They are a rip off. They charge for coming out then the quote was 3X the going rate. I had a simple job of replacing 2 ground faults and they quoted $511 plus their $59 charge for quoting. I finally had the job done for $150 which is the going rate. I would not recommend them. read more

Needed two light switches to be looked at and also a ceiling fan. A man came in, checked both and they were good so he took the fan apart and figured out something must have gotten loose. He was very kind and professional. I was not crazy about the price but with electrical issues, not really something you want to fool around with and have a fire. We had an emergency and this company was very quick to respond. We worked with Kurt, who was wonderful. He was upfront about pricing and our options. He was incredibly knowledgeable and the perfect guy for the job. He was able to save us money because he was so knowledgeable about the inventory the company keeps in their warehouses. He went the extra step to go to their warehouses and look for an uncommon part for us. Not only did he repair our electrical panel and ensure it was safe to use again, but he also stayed with me until NIPSCO came to turn our electricity back on. They were called out to look at my outdoor coach light due to a broken wire. Chris could not locate it with his meter. He had a device with probes that stuck into the ground. He told me the break was under my brand new sidewalk. I was told it would cost over $2000 to repair but he could credit me the $500 being charged for the probe device. He literally only spent 5 minutes if that, using it. I felt this was an exorbitant price. Being early December I decided to wait. This spring I had a different company come out to find it wasn't under the sidewalk at all. It was in front of the sidewalk. He was able to use his meter to find it. I called Amps and Volts and was told I would be contacted by management. I still have not heard from them. I paid $500 only to have it misdiagnosed. Was it Chris just didn't want to deal with it because it was cold outside? I don't know. I feel like some type of restitution should be made. It should have been a simple fix. read more

A friend recommended them and in searching the Web I was skeptical because there were very few reviews. Usually a friends reference is better than anything, and because of the urgent nature of the problem we took their word for it. They were right. The service wire from NIPSCO that goes from the pole in the alley to my house was pulled out of the anchor at the house and was barely hanging on so the wire was drooping in my backyard to the point where I had to duck to walk underneath it. NIPSCO said that I needed an electrician to reattach the wire as it was not their responsibility to do such work. Enter Chris and Kurt - what a team! They work very well together and assessed my problem and gave me two estimates. They suggested to me that I go with option one and gave me a 1 year guarantee that if that didn't hold, they'd come back and provide option 2 and give me credit for what I already paid. They were very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all my questions. I'm very satisfied with the work they did and think their pricing was quite reasonable. I'm very glad to recommend them and kudos to the company for having these 2 guys working for them! read more

I can not say enough how courteous and professional Chris and Kurt were. I was able to get a next day appointment and they came out diagnosed and fixed my problem right away. Admittedly surprised at the spread of ratings here . . . the property that Amps & Volts has serviced for us needed some additional capabilities but also (unfortunately) a number of issues, some rather unsafe, resolved. We have been consistently serviced by Chris and Kurt, and they have always a) provided excellent work, b) answered questions very patiently, and c) offered alternatives when we sought them. I can't comment on their pricing as we did not seek other estimates - we relied on the word of mouth of those in the area who had used them for various projects. I will not hesitate to use them again and heartily recommend them to others. read more

Called this company with an electrical emergency, the operator told me he would have somebody call me back soon, waited about 15 hours. I called back and the girl on the phone said they had no message or anything stating that I called. Then she want to charge me an emergency dispatch fee of $250 just to have the guy come out here. I told her I could show her the time I called, then she just had an attitude. Do yourself a favor and avoid this joke of a company. read more

As a contractor of 50 years I would not recommend them. Wanted to charge almost $1500 for work that was done for $350. Also tried to use scare tactic to upsell another $4500 to make their home safe. I had the elderly lady write him a check to get him out of the house. The lady was getting upset thinking her house was unsafe to live in. I felt responsible because I was the one that gave her his number. Glad I was there at the time. I made a big mistake. I did find the right licensed electrician. read more
