Amro Music has been in business forever it seems. They were suppliers to all of the bands in East Arkansas as well. They always had what we needed and this was back in the late 70's and 80's. Great to see they are still in business. read more

Very unprofessional repair of my cornet. Needed all dents removed that could affect sound. Paid for dent removal. When I got there, none of the dents were removed. I pointed it out, and they said they'd remove them for free? I already paid for it. And to make it worse, they missed a major dent right next to where they replaced the waterkey pad. Asked for a supersonic cleaning because the horn was really nasty and stinky. Picked it up and on the way home, I pulled one of the tuning slides--green goop inside. When I got home, I put it in a tub of cold water, disassembled it, and scrubbed the inside with brushes. At the bottom of the tub was a pile of black gunk. It's like they didn't even clean it. Asked for new felts because the old ones were falling apart. I specifically asked for purple felts. When I picked it up, they'd put in green ones. I'm not really surprised they didn't have purple, but the kicker is they didn't even bother to call and let me know they changed it to green. Also needed the waterkey pad replaced because the old one was leaky and crumbly. On the drive home, I was playing the cornet and noticed spit dripping on my lap. Checked the waterkey pad and it was crooked and still leaking. Right next to it was a massive dent they definitely saw while replacing the pad. I paid them to remove all the sound-affecting dents--which they did not do. I basically paid $120 for new felts and a leaky waterkey. Overall, terrible service and communication. I will never go back to AMRO. read more

I used to LOVE Amro and it was my go-to sheet music source - the guy in the sheet music section a few years ago was INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful! I went in a few weeks ago (post-renovation) and was shocked to see how little pop music they had in stock (6 books, TOPS!). I'm from Venezuela as well, and I saw review that sounded like Amro denied a rental to someone from Venezuela based on nationality. If you don't have a social then they don't know who you are, that's just how things work here in the US. This is not only for Amro, a lot of businesses would do the same thing. I have been a violin student for a very long time, and after I became a US citizen, decided to come by Amro and test some violins. Staff seemed to be very professional and helpful for me. They pulled about 8 of their best student-advanced violins for me to try. I fell in love with the sound of one violin, and I was immediately ready to take it home. We bought my son's trumpet with Mr.Leslie York and man what a pleasure it was to have him. He helped my son through the entire process of picking his trumpet, and told him about what to look in his instrument and not to see only the price tag, he told us that the highest price doesn't mean that he will become the best player, but work and effort. My son got so inspired that played the trumpet and now the motivation that Mr. York gave him has moved him to be interest in the French Horn. We came back, and Mr. York helped him the exact same way. He didn't remember us and still treated us the exact same way. My son will eat dirt if Mr. York tells him that will improve his skills haha. Mr. York has been such a positive influence in my son that it's hard to see Mr. York as a salesman. I see him as a person so passionate for music that its impossible not to feel like you love music. I took my daughter's flute for maintenance in the summer (7/2021). They tried to sell the maintenance plan to me, which I didn't want at the time. I was told if I ever wanted to reinstate it, just bring the flute back for maintenance and I could get it. I got the flute fixed. Took it again 12/2021 to get the maintenance plan and get some adjustments on it, but they now tell me I must pay for the adjustments before getting the maintenance plan reinstated. Now I wish I'd gotten the guy's name that tried to get me to buy it in the summer. I will no longer deal with Amro on maintenance. I'll look for someone to fix my daughter's flute that won't charge me an arm and a leg!! read more

I'm a professional Violinist. I find this store extremely underwhelming for anyone that isn't a beginner. While it is extremely beginner friendly, anyone who has a decent amount of experience should know that it really isn't for any advanced players. Their "advanced istruments" are in reality advanced for beginners. The luthier's are okay, and the managers seem to apparently know everything and are quite hardheaded; quite passive agressive. Would help if they upgraded to more knowledgeable/friendly staff. I would also like to add on that I do feel quite uncomfortable here. Hopefully things will improve, as I believe this store has great potential as one of the only subpar music stores around town. read more

Every time I come here, they treat me like jerks. I actually feel uncomfortable. It's like they have a "no touch" policy. If you play a few notes, they're like "sir, sir, I'm on the phone!" Or you're bothering the man tuning them. And of course they start trying to sell you one right away. Or at least they try to find out if you're really ready to buy one. If you're not ready yet, they'll try to get you out the door and basically tell you to come back when you are ready. I actually had the lady in the "Steinway" room tell me they don't like people touching them because the finish scratches so easily! These things can last 100 years! It's no secret that Steinway makes a great instrument, but in my opinion, they've tried to build their name up in order to inflate prices. They just aren't worth the price they sell for to me. There are other pianos for half the price that are made just as well in my opinion. And if you're wanting to compare pianos, good luck having any time trying them out. They'll stand over your shoulders and ask you to stop. I gave them two stars because they do have a large library. One day they helped me find a book on the shelf and I sat on the bench backwards (because I know they don't want you playing anything) and I started looking through the book. The salesman stood over the front of me and asked if I had what I wanted. That was his way of saying "You got what you wanted, now get the hell out"! I don't feel comfortable here. Everyone is just so uptight. read more

Be forewarned. Do not trust Amro. Sold us a Bach instrument (high-end). First mistake. Was defective. Instead of replacing it with same, they gave us an Accent. Said it was of comparable value. We trusted Amro as we didn't know any better. Second mistake. Took it back a year later to trade in on another instrument. Offered us 1/4 of the original value they claimed it held. They explained that we'd been misinformed (by an AMRO MANAGER). We had been royally screwed. It was then that we realized that Amro's profits come before their integrity or customer service. We've since taken out business to Lane. MUCH more pleasant experience. read more

I bought a Roland keyboard from Amro Music Store. I was moving across the country and asked to have the keyboard in the original manufacturers sealed box. When I arrived at my new home we unsealed the box and assembled the keyboard. It was perfect, right down to the very last bolt. The only thing missing was the adaptor! We tore through the house, the garbage, the yard, our cars-how could this be? I called Amro and spoke to Josh Stevens, the man who sold me the unit. He apologized for the problem and immediately shipped me a new adaptor-no questions, no complaints and no extra cost. I was a piano teacher in Memphis for many years and I always sent my students to Amro. They are high quality and excellent costumer service! read more

I'm from Venezuela, my 12 year old daughter plays the violin and she has a recital tomorrow. She had a problem with her instrument and we decided to go to Amro Music to rent one. The young lady that talk to us was wonderful, the problem was with the managers. They wouldn't let us rent one because I don't have a social security number and our credit wasn't approved. I understood the situation so one of our closest friends, an American citizen, with social security number and a great credit score offered to rent it for us. They denied him the right to do it, because they knew it was for my daughter and ruin her recital tomorrow since she has no instrument. After this unfair situation they offered to rent us an used one, and for obvious reason we declined. read more

Incredibly over priced. They conned my wife into paying 1.1k for a flute that runs around 400 brand new from anyone else. They said it comes with insurance and free instrument repair. During the course thier "service" we changed banks which interrupted the monthly automatic payments. After trying to contact thier billing department several times. We figured they would contact us during the school year. Long story short. They repossessed the instrument siting a balance of three times what was due. After that I was able to buy the same type and brand instrument for less than the balance due after we had been paying on the one they "sold" us for over a year! Several months later they began to harass us by calling us lol. Turns out they could have called us anytime after the first automatic payment didn't go through but didn't. Now they call us regularly with threats that if we don't pay the "balance due" that they will put it on my wife's credit report. I would have had no problem paying however, they made themselves impossible to get ahold of, could have called us anytime after the first payment was rejected, then they tried to embarrass my 8th grade daughter with repossession. Not to mention that at the time they repossessed the instrument from my house, the lady who came to pick it up lied straight to my face saying, she had called my wife an made an appointment with to come and pick it up. My advice is that, when they put you on the spot at school with your child present at band orientation. Don't fall for thier sales pitch. Get a price and pull out your smart phone and price one brand new off of Amazon. I would avoid them like the plague. They are rip off artists who exploit children and parents by over pricing thier instruments and threaten patents with thier credit ratings after they have made thier money off you. There are currently 5 other children in my daughter's beginning band class who have had thier instruments repossessed. Unfortunately they repossessed those poor kids' dreams at school, in class, Infront of the other children. read more

My daughter and a friend were going to practice on a Friday night before a competition on Saturday. Unfortunately her trombone would not slide. We woke up early Saturday to be the first ones there since the competition was today. We took it in, and found out there were small dents in the slide, which made it where it would not slide. The gentlemen were so helpful and told us they would have it ready for her before her competition. Nick from the store, even said he lived near the competition and would meet us out front early with her instrument so she would have it in plenty of time. This was above and beyond what we could have asked for. She received her instrument before her competition and it was awesome. Thank you to everyone involved. I called yesterday about getting my guitar re-stringed. Chris said they'd only charge me for the strings. I called another place here in town, they told me there was a $15 fee plus the cost of the strings. I went over to Amro, Chris met me at the door and introduced me to Leslie who explained to me what he was doing along each step. Even though I clearly am not a seasoned musician, I was treated with respect and the service was just great. Besides, the store is truly beautiful. If you are looking for a musical instrument buy it anywhere other than Amro. They have lost sight of what the "family owned" concept means. I personally knew Ronnie A. (the second generation) and he would not have treated customers the way the current management does. 14 years ago I purchased a Young Chang Grand piano from Amro. Recently I moved to a much smaller home so I called Amro to see if they would help me sell it on consignment (which their website states they will) and after finally receiving a call back the employee acted as if it was a terrible imposition that I even asked as they already had so many pianos. I understand if they were unable to do this but he could have at least been professional and tried to provide some help as to other options for selling a piano. Sad that the fourth generation has lost sight of the principles the company was founded on. read more

I have had nothing but great experiences working with Amro. I am a band director in the area, and their Director Services department is wonderful. The staff is always able to help me with anything I need, and are always polite and professional. They are also very speedy with instrument repair returns and supply orders. I also recently had my piano tuned by a technician from Amro. Not only was he on time to his appointment, he was actually early. He was very personable, and after he tuned my piano, he took the time to explain some of the issues I had been having and what he did to fix it. My piano now sounds great! I would definitely recommend Amro to all of my band director and musician friends for anything they would need. read more

We came to Amro with a 5th grader excited about starting strings at school. He chose the viola to play, and we were in search of a rental. We called ahead. They had what we needed at a comparable price to other places we called. We went on Saturday afternoon and busy is an understatement. Lots of school kids are getting geared up for the school year! Despite being extremely busy, we were promptly assisted. We had plenty of attentive help to get exactly what we needed. On top of knowledgeable and professional, everyone was very friendly - which is important when you have 3 kids in tow! We were in and out in about 30 minutes with everything we needed at a competitive price. If only every item on my weekend "to-do" list went this smoothly! Before walking into Amro Music today, the last time I touched my violin was 16 years ago when I was in elementary school. I decided to finally re-learn the instrument and was nervous walking in. I was concerned about how much everything would cost, if they would judge me for my basic questions, and worried they'd try to sell me more than I needed. Well, I ended up walking out of Amro feeling relived, prepared, and excited! As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted and offered help. I ended up working with Leslie York, the band and orchestra manager, and he provided astounding customer service. He answered my many questions patiently and nicely, showed me how he was re-stringing my violin, showed me how to tune, offered advice, and only sold me what I needed and at the quality I was looking for (since I was a beginner, I didn't buy the super high end/performer level stuff and he didn't push it). We rented a cello with the intent of owning it and were mislead on the rental policies. We were to believe that we would begin renting and end renting after the instrument was paid for. After a year of $60/month payments we were informed that our 12-month guarantee of price had ended. That meant that although Amro would gladly continue renting us a cello, there was no guarantee the cello would remain the same price. Essentially, we could pay $60/month forever and never own the cello. We were happy with the quality of the cello but the staff are a bit too sly for us. The cello rental will be cancelled and Amro will not receive anymore of our business for having misled us. read more

I was very disappointed with my recent visit to Amro Music Stores Inc. in Memphis off of Polar Avenue. Not only was the customer service nonexistent, but also I felt as if my business was neither welcomed nor appreciated. I had to search for the vocal music section on my own without having any of the myriad sales associates ask if I needed any assistance; I was in the store for over an hour. I am a musician and have been to music stores all over the country, but I have not had an experience as disappointing as the one at Amro Music. As a person who has experience in customer service, I know that it is important to make each person feel welcomed as he or she walks though the doors. I was not greeted with anything as I walked through the Amro Music establishment except blank stares and stoic expressions.
