    Tina C.

I enter to visit a friend who was recently discharge from a hospital to a short-term rehabilitation home for recovery and maintain self-management to regain physical, cognitive, and emotional functions affected by one's health condition. There are too many negative reviews. Yet many are accurate and truthful. I continue to despise hospitals including nursing/rehabilitation homes based on past experiences of family members and friends' insufferable inevitable demise. Amsterdam Nursing Home reception was stolid and curt when I check-in who flipped through some papers to locate his room number. I had to spell my friend's surname three times as the male front desk receptionist/ security guard is oblivious and inept of correctly locating to write his name. Furthermore, he mispronounced my own surname which is the easiest to pronounce!! There are no visitor badge or passes upon check-in and the front desk receptionist/ security guard will shout out "WHAT ROOM NUMBER ARE YOU CHECKING OUT?" which one visitor was exiting. I requested this front desk receptionist/ security guard to write down the room number on a flyer and upon my exit I submitted this stating "this is the room number that I am checking out." The reception and elevator lobby areas on the first floor appears home- ish with a traditional grandfather clock, sofas, and a family gathering common area. The medical care appears adequate as within mere minutes of my visit (I did not sit down) the staff entered ready to change his hospital night gown and possibly remove any soil on the bed. My friend stated the bed is better. The food is less humanity. "Tina, that is not apple juice- it is a horrible bad tea." I wonder if the patient care technician (PCT) bath my friend... I exited despondent and dispirited as my entire visit was twelve minutes.

    Don't ignore patients?? For real?

Unorganized, poor communication with patients; not enough time given to needs of patients by doctors

However, our interaction with the administrative staff and social work staff was a very bad experience. As Social worker myself I understand a nursing home social worker is the bottom rung of social work . My family member was ready to be discharged on Wednesday. However she was then told that she had to wait a few days for discharge so a care plan could be completed. To the layman that sounds reasonable, yet to a veteran it means they wish to maximize their insurance payments and virtually held my family member against their will. When I confronted the Administrator, Scott, refused to give his last name, acted like a sleazy thug. The senior Social worker could not explain her actions and somehow was able to get the discharge done on Wednesday. We were knowledgeable but a layman will be exploited. The food was so bad I had to buy meals outside and bring them in because the food is inedible! Don't put your loved one here

I had to fight to get toilet paper, yes toilet paper. No one was on the same page. There were no universal processes so everything was CHAOS. You wait and wait and wait for even pain meds. Under staffed severely. I was "discharged" last Friday without knowing I had to do it myself. I had to call the nurse at the front desk to tell her I was leaving. No one ever told me this. OMG again, I almost lost the chartered car service waiting to take me home as this nonsense was so time consuming. AND worse yet, I was sent home WITHOUT my very vital meds (heart meds!!). I called and no one knew who could do anything. The meds were there and they were so stupid they couldn't possibly just call a messenger service or send someone to me (I live 10 blocks away). They did not call in any meds to my pharmacy. This just happened and I am now going into my 4th day of no heart meds. It is a disaster and disgrace. AVOID like the plague.

Staff frequently ignored call alarms, left him unattended, failed to take him to critical medical follow-ups, and repeatedly moved him between rooms, causing confusion and setbacks. Communication with doctors was almost impossible, medications were mishandled, and aides ranged from indifferent to openly hostile. My father suffered preventable injuries, long periods without proper rehab, and inconsistent hygiene and safety practices. Even basic tasks--like helping him to the bathroom or keeping the call button within reach--were often ignored. Across multiple floors the care felt chaotic, understaffed, and lacking oversight. This facility caused my father unnecessary pain, fear, and decline. I would strongly urge families to look elsewhere and thoroughly research any rehab center before trusting them with a loved one.

He is ignored for hours, not receiving even a quarter of the care their website promises and worst of all, our concerns as the family are being ignored. We are trying one last time to be heard, if not we are filing a formal complaint with the NYC Board of Health. This place deserves negative stars based on our experience the past few months.
