I visited the AMT coffee stand in Queen Street station based on the recommendation of a friend. "It's cheaper than Starbucks and just as nice". Good enough for me, I thought. So, on a 15 minute break from my Googling, I nipped down there and bought myself a hot chocolate. At £1.90 for a (one size fits all) hot chocolate, it was certainly cheaper than Starbucks.
Above the roar of the trains I managed to indicate to the guy in the wee booth (overflowing with fruit, biscuits, and a tree growing giant pretzels) that I would like to purchase a drink. He was friendly and efficient, offering cream, marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles on the top - all for no extra charge. Hey, maybe he liked my new lipstick.
On tasting the hot chocolate, however, I didn't think it was as good as Starbucks. The nearest comparator I can think of is......liquid Weetos. Sorry, but that's really the nearest thing I can think of. If you like liquid Weetos, then you've found your Holy Grail. Despite the fact it's cheaper than Starbucks, it doesn't taste as good. Also, I can't sit in a giant velvet chair looking nonchalant. I'm afraid Starbucks wins it for me, on the hot chocolate front anyway. read more
