We went about finding our wedding photographer (Jenna) through a social media group called the Chicago Toasters. It's a private group with over 10K local women that's an open forum for asking questions, getting recommendations, etc. I decided to browse old post threads within this group where other women that were getting married were asking for photographer recommendations in the Chicagoland area for their wedding. I made note of all the photographers that got recommended several times, and Jenna was one of them! From there, we contacted Jenna and the rest is history. And let me tell you, we are SO glad we chose Jenna to work with - She is AMAZING in all ways. -She is fun, friendly and she makes you feel at ease immediately -Her photography style is beautiful, light and airy -She is assertive -She is great with her communication and provided so many great resources and professional guidance throughout the entire process On the day of our wedding, the Chicago lights festival parade was also happening. We planned to take bridal party pictures by the Wrigley Building, and when we arrived we were getting asked to leave by the police. Jenna worked her magic and was able to convince them to let us use the space for 20 minutes - Jenna and her assistance captured SO MANY great photos within this short period of time and worked so well under pressure! That, and the fact that I'm cheap and didn't think it would be worth spending money on pro pictures that I could "take myself," made me really leery on hiring anyone- which is why it took me nearly a year to do so! Boy was I dumb! From the moment Katie Ryan entered my home, I was not one bit disappointed. Quite the contrary! I remember thinking, almost instantly, how I wished we would've hired Katie Ryan Photography for more photo shoots rather than just our baby's one year photos!! Nevertheless the one year shoot is what was taken and, again, I was not one bit disappointed. Picture after picture after picture, my baby and her personality shined for the camera as she smiled and giggled and had a great time! My husband and I watched in complete awe as an instant connection was formed between our baby and Katie Ryan; it was really incredible! I haven't seen all the photos as this shoot was less than a month ago, but I have seen some teasers and WOW. The pictures are just beautiful and leaves me anxiously waiting to see the rest. (I actually ended up using one of the teasers in our 1st bday party Thank You cards- thanks to Katie Ryan Photography for sending a high res version of one of the teasers I liked!). Christy & James captured our December 2022 wedding, and I can't imagine our day without them. I'm so grateful they were referred to me through other wedding vendors. Immediately upon introduction, Christy was so warm, personable and loving, I instantly felt like I made a new friend. She took the time to get to know us both individually, as well as a couple. It is so clear how much they care about their clients, as well as the passion and pride they take towards their work, which is absolutely beautiful. Christy shot our engagement photos which we were initially hesitant about, but she was so encouraging, and I'm SO glad we did them. It was a great way to feel comfortable in front of a camera before the big day, and the photos were incredible. Being an extremely indecisive person, I couldn't decide on a location, so she took the time to learn what was important for us and weighed in with several suggestions weeks and days leading up to the shoot. She had such a positive, calming, down-to-earth presence, and made us feel at ease and natural the whole time. She also delivered our photos so quickly which was such a nice surprise. We were counting down the days to our wedding, because we couldn't wait to work with her again after seeing how well she captured us. Christy & James were both present at our wedding and photographed the day so beautifully. They showed up early and worked so hard throughout the whole day and night (even with sick kiddos at home). They went above and beyond not only photographing every detail to perfection, but getting to know our family members and bridal party. They did not miss a beat and are the perfect team. They are also so fun and funny (both individually and together), with very low-stress energy that kept us laughing all day. There were times you didn't even know a photographer was there, because they were never in the way but still found a way to capture everything. They shared sneak peaks just days after the wedding, and when we received our full album shortly after, we were so blown away by not only the quality, but the amount of photos we received!! Choosing photos for our album will be impossible, because all of them are perfect. I get chills every time I go through them, and I can't begin to count the amount of compliments we've received. Finally, Christy & James are so professional, responsive and easy to work with; whether it be checking in regularly, answering questions/emails immediately (with so many thoughtful details), sending surprise gifts, editing/photoshopping photos to perfection, the list goes on and on. They also donate a portion of their weddings to Paws!! They are such genuine people who love capturing important moments, and I will be recommending them to every future bride or mama-to-be. My experience with my photo shoot with Kirsten was one of the most fun, unusual, and enjoyable photo-shoots I've done the past ten years. I came up to Kirsten a few weeks ago with an extremely novel and unusual idea for a photo shoot. It wasn't the normal wedding/engagement/fashion/headshot/senior picture variety that many are accustomed to. It was an idea of a shoot projecting a story and a timeline a la graphic novel/comic- style and putting it into live pictures. Basically I wanted to shoot a live comic book with myself in character for a future project. I emailed kristen this unusual shoot idea, and she was all in. She wasn't familiar with the graphic novel genre, but researched diligently with the compositions of the art, in terms of framing, light, shadowing etc. After a few email exchanges will mutual input we arranged for a shoot. Kirsten attacked this project, that's so different from her usual projects, with passion fervor and fun. For the next two hours, we shot and shot, she did a great job pulling double duty. as the hair and makeup assistant as well. Her exciting demeanor and enthusiasm helped make the photo-shoot fun, and the time fly by. She didn't treat you like a robot and going through the motions at all like many a shoot I've experienced again. I'm definitely using Kirsten again in the future, sooner than later.
