Christy immediately caught my interest when she did a photoshoot for a wellness business I ran for a year to support people during the beginning changes of Covid-19 (workouts from home, wellness coaching, etc) and she COMPLETELY KILLED IT!!! Christy and James provided us with the most beautiful engagement photos along the lake in Chicago and then traveled with us to shoot our wedding in Southampton. Christy is a total empath, she knows what you need before you do.. she will respond to whatever energy you need to feel your best and most confident. James keeps a calm and cool energy that allows for all people to be themselves. These two are amazing and I am so grateful. Do not think twice about booking Christy & James for your wedding! Not only is their work absolutely stunning, but they are two of the best people you will meet. Christy & James captured our December 2022 wedding, and I can't imagine our day without them. I'm so grateful they were referred to me through other wedding vendors. Immediately upon introduction, Christy was so warm, personable and loving, I instantly felt like I made a new friend. She took the time to get to know us both individually, as well as a couple. It is so clear how much they care about their clients, as well as the passion and pride they take towards their work, which is absolutely beautiful. Christy shot our engagement photos which we were initially hesitant about, but she was so encouraging, and I'm SO glad we did them. It was a great way to feel comfortable in front of a camera before the big day, and the photos were incredible. Being an extremely indecisive person, I couldn't decide on a location, so she took the time to learn what was important for us and weighed in with several suggestions weeks and days leading up to the shoot. She had such a positive, calming, down-to-earth presence, and made us feel at ease and natural the whole time. She also delivered our photos so quickly which was such a nice surprise. We were counting down the days to our wedding, because we couldn't wait to work with her again after seeing how well she captured us. Christy & James were both present at our wedding and photographed the day so beautifully. They showed up early and worked so hard throughout the whole day and night (even with sick kiddos at home). They went above and beyond not only photographing every detail to perfection, but getting to know our family members and bridal party. They did not miss a beat and are the perfect team. They are also so fun and funny (both individually and together), with very low-stress energy that kept us laughing all day. There were times you didn't even know a photographer was there, because they were never in the way but still found a way to capture everything. They shared sneak peaks just days after the wedding, and when we received our full album shortly after, we were so blown away by not only the quality, but the amount of photos we received!! Choosing photos for our album will be impossible, because all of them are perfect. I get chills every time I go through them, and I can't begin to count the amount of compliments we've received. Finally, Christy & James are so professional, responsive and easy to work with; whether it be checking in regularly, answering questions/emails immediately (with so many thoughtful details), sending surprise gifts, editing/photoshopping photos to perfection, the list goes on and on. We cherish every single photo they captured of our special day. Every time I log onto our wedding gallery I discover a new favorite photo, even 4 months later. They are professionals from start to finish. Christy is easy to communicate with and gets back to you thoroughly and quickly. They brought equipment for every lighting scenario and just really floored us with their professionalism the day of, let alone the gorgeous photographs they captured. The quality of each photo is unreal. I received our photo gallery super fast, which could be because of the timing of the pandemic regarding weddings/gatherings but I was very surprised how fast we received everything. Christy did our engagement photo session as well, which I really recommend because it's a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera. Christy is so professional and knows exactly how to direct you into poses that look natural and result in an entire gallery of photos that are each unique and perfectly framed. I started following Christy and James on Instagram and fell in love with them and their work years before I was engaged. In particular, I loved the fact their their photos were so natural and unfiltered. When the time came to start planning our wedding I was starting from scratch on finding virtually all our vendors aside from the photographers. I knew I wanted to use Christy Tyler Photography and they were the very first wedding related email I sent out and from there I essentially planned the date around making sure they could be our photographers. From the very start I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. Leading up to the big day they sent sweet gifts and notes, were flexible and SO knowledgeable. What I appreciated most during the preparation process were the tips they provided around how to structure our day, how much time we'd want to devote to certain things, etc. This was seriously invaluable and led to such a seamless day. On the wedding day, they were just rockstars. They kept everything running on time, got along with everyone and were just all around great. After the wedding we had a sneak peak within a few days which was greatly appreciated, had the full gallery quickly, and had them take lead on the entire wedding album process. I cannot say enough amazing things about this vendor. The owner, Christy, is wonderful to work with - she's responsive, caring, understanding, flexible and (of course) most importantly an amazing photographer and business owner. We booked CTP in June 2019 for our August 2020 wedding. CTP came as a recommendation from 2 previous colleagues. The booking and proposal process was easy to decide on with Christy's help and guidance. She is very genuine and upfront about what she'll provide and what to expect with her services - you know you're getting the right price for the right services. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, we had to postpone our wedding 9 months to the following May 2021. It was a difficult decision - Christy truly understood and empathized what we were going through while needing to postpone, rebook, cut/change the guest list, etc. She helped us hold everything together, I'm sure while working to maintain her own business during those uncertain times. Due to postponing, we had to move our ceremony time up, change the ceremony location, and rework a few other details - all things that Christy was able to follow along and switch up with no issues. The best part about CTP is that you get to know and love Christy while you await your big day. From the check-ins, emails, engagement shoot, and personalized texts, Christy always made sure that we felt we were the most important client-couple to her. The second best thing about Christy is her partner - James. We had the duo photographing us for our big day (we booked CTP knowing we wanted two shooters to make sure no special moment was missed). The amount of jokes and laughter that James had for us was so spot-on for keeping us and our bridal party entertained and happy for our very long day. Christy exceeds every possible expectation of a wedding photographer. Her work is fantastic. My husband and I are not photogenic, and we thought the photography was going to be awkward. Christy made us look (and feel!) great on our wedding day and during our engagement session. Her blog posts helped me navigate the wedding process (how to choose locations for pictures, how and why to have an engagement session, and much more) and she was quick, thoughtful, and thorough in her responses to my follow-up questions. I was unsure whether I even wanted a wedding in the first place rather than eloping. My wedding lacked a number of the expensive, crafty, or time-consuming "intimate details" that Christy often photographs. She is competitively priced compared with photographers of similar (excellent) caliber, but her services were still one of my splurge items. She clearly treated my wedding with the same excitement, dedication, and commitment that she does with weddings that cost triple the price. Do not be put off by the amazing weddings she photographs! Many wedding vendors with whom I spoke had an implicit or explicit expectation that I had been dreaming of my wedding for decades, viewed every detail as incredibly important (and expensive), and used phrases like "most important day of my life"--understandably. These vendors devote their lives to weddings, and many of my friends shared their views. However, these attitudes made it hard for me to feel like vendors understood my goals for approach to my wedding. Christy was different. She is at least equally as passionate as anyone in the wedding service but picks up on her client's goals, vision, and tone. She manages to be incredibly professional but still feel like a new friend--even if you aren't a "wedding" person and did not expect your vendors to feel like new friends. On the day of the wedding, Christy and James were on time and worked constantly. Every person in my family commented that Christy and James were always taking pictures but managed to be completely unobtrusive. I barely noticed them, but they took hundreds of pictures I love. I had borrowed a ring from my grandmother to wear on my wedding day. The ring fell off sometime between pictures and the ceremony. I asked Christy and James to keep an eye out for it, just in case, but I was sure it was gone. Christy brought out these crazy detective skills, reviewed the pictures she had taken already (zoomed in on my hand), and within a minute pinpointed the exact time when I must have lost the ring. She told my mother, who found the ring about ten minutes later. I heard a report that James also "totally indulged" our friends' silly moments during the reception, and it was true. Christy and James captured a number of personal moments between our friends and family. My husband and I couldn't be everywhere, speaking with everyone at the same time during the reception. It is so nice to have pictures of our friends and families having a good time together. It was great to have a second photographer to do something other than follow my husband and me around the whole day. I would have never thought I would use two wedding photographers, but the photos James took of everyone else at the reception are some of the pictures I will treasure the most. To quote my grandfather, Christy and James were "worth every penny!" You'll feel great about Christy as soon as she responds to your initial email inquiry. We exchanged personal vows at the first look which we shot right in front of the Trump along the river. The setting was beautiful and romantic and everything we both expected. Throughout the family portraits, wedding party, and personal shots, we felt relaxed and confident that were going to have amazing photos. The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception flew by and a few weeks later we were sitting at dinner on our Honeymoon looking at the photos and remembering what an amazing time the wedding had been. Our wedding day went beyond both of our expectations, and Christy & James were such a vital part of making that happen. First story I want to share: It gently rained on our wedding day, and the temperature was in the low 50's. It would annoy anybody, but all we got from Christy & James was positivity and joy. Christy at the time of the wedding was about a month away from having another child, but she was bouncing around and taking pictures like she was an Olympian! Our families had their jaws dropped, watching this super-mom's raw energy. I feel this really speaks to her tremendous character and how much she truly cares about her clients. Second story: We consistently felt Christy's kindness by all the little gifts that showed up for us in the mail, along with sweet notes! We never expected to receive anything from her, so it was quite a delight to see these thoughtful gifts show up in the mail. A month or so before the wedding, my now-wife and I were stressed about planning, work, grad-school exams, and moving. I had just come home from a bad day at work, and my now-wife was frantically writing a paper ahead of time so she could relax on our wedding weekend. A card showed up from Christy in the mail, and in it was a gift card along with a note to "Take a night to yourselves, don't talk about the wedding at all, and remember why you are together". It was the most perfect timing, and we sat there feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. If we had to do it all over again, I would choose Christy as the photographer every time. My fiance and I first spoke with Christy in November 2019 and booked her and James for our October 2020 wedding. We wanted to keep a larger wedding, so postponed due to COVID. Christy was beyond gracious and reasonable in allowing us to reschedule for October 2021. Come time for our engagement session this summer, about 1.5 years after being engaged, she was equally responsive and helpful. We had to postpone our photos THREE times due to weather, and she made that frustrating task such a breeze. We just finished our crazy wedding weekend, spread out over 3 days. Christy was involved with documenting each looooong day. Oh man, like others stated where to even begin. My wife and I were living in separate cities when we got engaged (her Indianapolis and Chicago for myself). Given I was looking to propose in Chicago and none of our family was going to be able to be there to celebrate initially, I thought investing in a photographer would be a good decision. Christy was so thorough in everything leading up and things were planned perfectly. When the big day arrived and the weather held off, the chemistry we had between Christy and James were fantastic and we thought it may be normal for all professional photographers. However something just felt different and the whole experience seemed so natural. As we began the wedding planning process we weren't sure where we were going to go for a photographer. We wound up getting married in Louisville in November 2016 so a little bit away from Chicago. In looking at different vendors and evaluating our options, we kept coming back to the same thought. Let's hire a known quantity that we were thrilled to be around and the final product. We ultimately made the decision to hire Christy and James for our wedding as well and couldn't have been more thrilled with the decision. They are so personable and just a joy to be around as well as making the entire experience natural. Which is a huge positive as being a guy the whole being photographed thing doesn't always come natural. Where. Do. I. Even. Begin. Christy is incredible, to start off. I knew I was initially off on the right foot with Christy when she responded to my inquiry email within about an hour of me sending it off (whereas with other photographers I'm still waiting on their reply). I was initially drawn to her because I was looking for a natural feel to my wedding photos, as opposed to very staged and stiff ones that I'm noticing with other weddings I've seen recently. I felt her prices were reasonable, fair and nothing out of the ordinary. Once we had signed the contract, Christy sent my fiancé and I a bottle of prosecco to celebrate our engagement. We emailed back and forth a bit about where we wanted photos taken with the wedding party and what the schedule should look like. Like with many brides, I've never planned a wedding before so I had no clue what the schedule should look like. Christy did it all, plugging in a schedule she typically uses and it was how I planned the rest of that day. Further, while I was meeting with other vendors and they would ask who the photographer was, they always responded with, "Oh Christy's great. She also gets photos online really fast." When we had our first face-to-face meeting about locations and packages, she was hauling these massively heavy photo albums and was about to begin her third trimester with twins. The woman is incredible, to say the least. The day of the wedding, it could not have gone smoother. She and James, her husband and photography partner, made everything comfortable and effortless. She had alarms on her phone for when we needed to transition from one thing to the next in the day's schedule. There were a few moments when I thought we were going to be short on time, but Christy assured me it'd be fine and naturally, it was. We only sort of teetered off schedule around 8:30pm, when the dinner was being served and speeches were made, which is pretty impressive to my understanding. Planning a wedding is very stressful but Christy is a pro. She knows her end of the deal and makes it smooth sailing for brides or grooms who have never done this before. She also knows what locations around the city make for great photos and has realistic schedules to make those photos happen. She's also pretty impressive with natural lighting, if I do say so myself. In summation, my best friend while skimming through the photos said, "How is it possible she didn't get one double chin?!" Truly, truly exceeded my expectations and cannot speak more highly of Christy's demeanor, work ethic and products she delivers. read more

Christy was amazing leading up to the wedding day and she is extremely responsive via email. Engagement shoot is included in the package which is also pretty great!! She also posts some sneak peeks on Facebook and will do a blog post for both your engagement and wedding photos, as well as provide an entire online library (for both) and flash drive (for the wedding only). Christy & James are the best. The best photographers, the best wedding vendors, the best business owners, the best people. When I began searching for a wedding photographer, I had no idea how to narrow down the field. Skimming through various sites, all of the options start to look the same. Really, even pretty bad photographers can come up with a few good images. So I started going to their blogs and scrolling down past the first few images for each wedding, getting past the best photos and seeing what most of them look like. And for a lot of photographers, that became an easy way to cross the name off my list--they just couldn't consistently deliver images that didn't have a problem with the focus, or being level, or well-framed. With Christy, every picture was gorgeous. Even though she posts soooo many more photos than a lot of other photographers, there's never any drop in quality, no so-so images hidden in the middle of the pack or at the bottom of a post. After culling my list down by skill, I still didn't know how I should choose between the options that were left. And then I started reading Christy's blog. Unlike some other photographers, who stick to just putting up client photos, Christy gets in to it all--being a small business owner, her personal life, and of course, lots and lots of her amazing work. Once you start reading her blog, you can't help but want all of the good things for her. She mentors other photographers. She adores her husband and her crazy dog Chloe. And she makes all of her clients feel like they're as awesome as she is. Even though her prices were a bit higher than I initially budgeted for photography, we decided to go with her, and it was absolutely the right decision. The photos from our wedding and our engagement shoot are stunning. As other reviewers have said, Christy & James almost disappear (in the best way possible). They're like ninjas. My husband and I both tend to freeze up and look awkward in photos, but somehow they were able to capture literally hundreds of shots with no 'deer caught in the headlights' look. Clearly our guests agree--so many of our friends use photos of themselves from our wedding as their profile pics. Most of our other vendors were great, and I would recommend them, but Christy is the only one where I literally can't think of anything that she could have done better. read more

Christy photographed our wedding in July 2012, and we can't recommend her enough. I don't care about flowers or limos or anything like that, but I really wanted quality photos of the day. Though we wanted posed shots of family and the wedding party, it was really important to us that overall our photos weren't stiff or overly staged. My husband HATES being in photos, so we were especially worried about really cheesy shots or forced smiles. From the beginning, Christy is extremely prompt in communicating (we mostly e-mailed which is perfect for me.) We met with her in person to discuss our wish list for the day. We clicked from the beginning, and we knew on the spot that we would work with her. We loved our engagement shoot - we went for "secluded urban" to combine our love for Chicago and our hatred for being watched. Christy pulled through with some amazing urban scenery: alleys, bridges, the skyline. We ended in a sudden downpour - and it ended up being one of our favorite shots! The photos are gorgeous. If anything, my camera-phobic husband looks more relaxed than I look - quite impressive. Christy kept us posted every few months, and she would send us lovely tidbits to keep us excited about the wedding. She is obviously very dedicated to developing a relationship with her clients, and you know that this is what she loves doing. On the actual wedding day, she and her second photographer/husband were perfect. They were on time and extremely efficient in getting everyone where they needed to be. Everyone dislikes getting wedding photos taken, but we all were impressed with how quickly they had us pose and snap the photos. They really blended in well during the reception and caught some really lovely moments (like my father-in-law tearing up during the mother-son dance.) The photos turned out fantastic as expected. In terms of what you get, she offers different packages depending on what you want. They may have changed at this point, but we got a pretty basic one that includes an engagement session, something like 6 hours for the wedding, and digital copies of all of the edited images (color and black & white.) Her pricing is extremely reasonable, and she is so fast in getting the photos back. I think that the engagement photos were done in a couple of weeks, and we got the wedding photos in about a month. We did not get a photo album with her (though I'm sure they're gorgeous,) and we were able to use our digital copies to make an album that we're still happy with. read more

We got married July 5, 2013 and used CTP for both our engagement photos and wedding photos. Photography was one of our top 3 priorities, so it was really important to work with someone who not only fit our style, but someone we could trust to capture us and our day in a unique and personal way. Christy is that photographer! Christy is a total professional, an amazing talent, and a good-hearted person. I cannot say enough great things about Christy! I knew I'd like her even before I met her. When my fiancé and I were deciding on a venue, I looked up random images online to see how other weddings had used the space. I was so impressed with images from Christy's site that I spent probably the next hour just looking at all of her work I could find. I knew I wanted her to photograph our wedding and wrote her name in my phone so I wouldn't forget. On my drive home that night, I got a call from a good friend of mine who told me she had a photographer to recommend. She told me this photographer had done wedding pictures for her friend and also for a cousin and the photographs were amazing. And guess what?! The photographer was Christy! It was fate. I emailed Christy with this little story and she immediately knew my friend's name. Now THAT was impressive! We exchanged a few emails and I knew I liked Christy as a person as much as I liked her work.... we set up a night to go out for beers so we could meet in person, and it was a done deal from then on. Christy is super-prompt in all correspondence and went above and beyond in her work with us. The relationship definitely feels more like friends than client-vendor, which is important when you're trusting someone to capture your most important day. I felt like I could go to Christy with any questions or concerns I had, and she would quickly reply. She chose perfect locations for our wedding pictures and kept everyone on schedule. Christy even uploaded a few photos to facebook at like 3 that morning. So cool! We came back from our honeymoon to a sweet blog post, a complete online gallery of photographs from the wedding, a collection of printed photos (that we didn't even order!), and the dvd of our photos. Did I mention we received this all in about a months' time?! Christy is also a huge talent! My fiancé and I, two camera-shy people, had total trust in Christy to make us look good and capture our day, and she proved us right with every shot. Our engagement session definitely helped us to feel more comfortable on the big day - and it was an awesome way to capture some of our real life around the city. The photos from the big day are even better. Guests at the wedding who have seen the pictures tell us the photos perfectly capture the day, which is exactly what we wanted. Christy was able to capture real, personal interactions between us and between others at the wedding. She was able to quickly (and successfully) take posed shots - the quickness was esp. great for all the family shots we took during cocktail hour. Finally, Christy and James are just really good people. Christy was full of advice, sent us sweet cards to keep us excited about our big day (instead of always focusing on the wedding "to do" lists), and she made sure we were both completely comfortable and ready for all the pictures and attention that come with getting married. Christy was my favorite vendor to work with for our wedding. My husband and I had quite a few setbacks when it came to photographers. We were canceled on twice!! This ended up being a blessing in disguise when someone recommended her. She is so sweet and very easy to work with. To say that my husband and I are not naturals in front of the camera is a big understatement! Our engagement session went so smoothly even though it was pretty much raining sideways. She is so comfortable to be around and you won't feel awkward in front of the camera. Christy and her husband James shot our wedding, Christy alone shot our engagement photos. When we first met Christy we were immediately impressed by her positive energy. I loved how excited she was about our story and how passionate she was about her profession. She answered all emails in a timely fashion and helped develop our ideas into action plans. For our engagement photos, she met us in our neighborhood and gamely walked around taking both candid and staged shots. Both Kim and I grew very comfortable with how she provided direction. Having Christy shoot our engagement photos also helped us when our big day arrived. Both her and James took photos of us on our wedding day, June 29, 2013. Christy with the girls, James with the guys as both groups got ready. The time & action plan for the day's shoots was well thought out with the first look at Buckingham fountain. Having two photographers was great and the first look photo shoot was a highlight for the day for both Kim and I. When we moved on to group photos, everything flowed seamlessly as she interacted with both young & old. She and James folded into the scenery during the ceremony & following reception. We received a batch of wedding photos on July 10th, which all of our friends & family loved. We got the full set of wedding photos on July 27th, about one month after our ceremony. 10 out of 10, I would use Christy and James again. Despite the fact that CTP already has glowing reviews on Yelp, I can't help but add my two cents. We got married in June, but the first time we met with Christy was long before that, while we were just starting the planning process. We were impressed with Christy's approach and demeanor from the very beginning - she even offered to meet us at our favorite bar! Christy was a perfect professional all the way through our process - and I don't mean that in a stuffy way! She was always (and continues to be) responsive, helpful, and friendly. She and James were great on our wedding day: right there when you wanted them, and in the background (still snapping photos!) when it was appropriate. Both of our families commented (with no prompting) on how great and friendly they both were, and we are THRILLED with our photos. Christy and her husband James photographed our engagement pictures and wedding. The photographs were breathtaking! My mom and I did a lot of research on photographers (20+). We selected Christy because of the breadth of her skill and style. She combines photojournalistic, classic / traditional and candid photographs. Her photos capture the 'essence' of the person and the relationship in her photos. She catches those split second moments that say everything. On top of all that, the pictures are composed beautifully. Christy has an amazing 'eye' for putting a picture together. Christy and James are a pleasure to work with. Christy and James are unbelievably fantastic! they shot our April 12, 2014 wedding at the Ivy Room in Chicago and i couldn't have asked for a better experience. they're both incredibly friendly, professional and talented and the photos are amazing. every shot feels genuine and beautiful, which is exactly what we wanted (and nothing cheesy, which we appreciated :)). We LOVE Christy!!! A friend recommended her to us (she booked her for her own wedding) so we decided to meet her. Knowing our photographs were the only physical thing we would really hold onto after our big day, great wedding pictures were a high priority for us.
