My family and I loved working with Jake! We recently moved to the Western Suburbs of Chicago and were looking for a professional photographer to help us take some annual family photos. Jake was quick to respond and we managed to set up a photo shoot location close to our home. So this is a bit of a late review, as I used their services back in August I believe. I actually asked them to help me plan a 10-year anniversary surprise for a good friend of mine who had never had professional family photos done. And Two Birds Photography did an outstanding job in every aspect! PRICE: First, I just want to say that I went with Two Birds Photography after months of Yelp searching and researching and phone calls and messages. They were by far the most affordable for such great quality photos. Other photographers that my friends had used had much cheaper pricing, but the service wasn't great, the prices were not inclusive, and the quality of the photos were really not the best. SERVICE: I was in communication with Jake, who has so fast to respond to my messages. I didn't attend the photoshoot but my friend said he was great and so accommodating! She has three young children (the youngest was about 6 months at the time) and she said he did a great job getting awesome shots of them and was super kind and patient when they would get out of control! QUALITY: The photos of my friends and her family were BEAUTIFUL. We were a bit nervous because it was raining and was a bit of a gloomy day, but Jake assured me that he could make it work for him (and also said that we could postpone if we were still concerned). They ended up going ahead with it that day and the photos turned out AMAZING. Only a truly talented photographer can manipulate light in that way and capture such beautiful images! Jake is absolutely the wedding photographer you want for your wedding day and comes highly recommended from my husband and I. He kept us on schedule, was open to the locations we wanted to take shots at and had ideas of his own. He also helped lay out a "plan B" for any potential weather changes. They've photographed two weddings that I was in and I found the pictures and albums to be amazing - a world of difference from your standard wedding photography. And the photographer was very professional throughout the whole day. The resulting photos exceeded my expectations, especially considering their forte is wedding photography. I was so lucky to book Jake as our wedding photographer. It was so great to not worry about that aspect of the wedding. He was inquisitive and proactive in our initial meeting and I feel that he really developed a solid idea of what we wanted. He followed up with us a number of times and really set us at ease. It was so exciting to come home and find something in the mail from them - these beautiful envelopes stamped and carefully written. We knew that if their correspondence was done with such care, we were in good hands. One of the highlights of my November 2012 wedding was working with Two Birds Photography. I originally contracted with them in May and we had the engagement session in June. I had a lot of very specific shots that I wanted because we were going with a MadMen/Bewitched retro theme. Plus, I brought my two dogs, and it was exceedingly hot and humid that day. But he met us at the Riverwalk and was on time and got all the shots I had described. When I was feeling like I wanted to go home, he encouraged us to take a few more shots working with nature, and I have to say that those were my favorite pictures. Jake just has a natural eye for the environment and doesn't need props to create memorable pictures. The photos were edited and posted promptly and we were very pleased with the quality of the prints that we ordered. For the wedding. I sent him a list of detail shots that I wanted because I DIYed everything but the food. He was there on time and got all of the detail shots before I even arrived. We had an aunt and little cousin who were also photographing all the details, and Jake worked so well with them. He is very kind, especially to my little cousin who was pretty much mesmerized by him and was copycatting him throughout the reception. My cousin loved the way Jake was directing the photos, and I really feel like he may have found his life's calling at our wedding because he enjoyed photographing so much and was learning from Jake. I love that Two Birds Photography has a presence on Facebook and Pinterest and they post photos so quickly. The minute I saw the sneak preview, I knew I was going to love the photos. A few days later, he sent the gallery link, and it was confirmed. We got our wedding pictures in just two weeks! I have heard so many horror stories of it taking 6 months or more. But these were well edited and we had such great variety. I really tried to do this wedding on a low budget because we are older and wiser, and have other priorities. So, Two Birds was a budget buster for us, but we absolutely got the blogworthy detailed photos we wanted and beautiful outdoor portraits. Truth be told, it rained after the ceremony and before the reception--the only time we had allocated for portraits. And they still turned out fantastic. He even got a picture of a rainbow for us and some cool reflective pictures in the wet pavement. Whatever the conditions, Jake can make it work! It was nice to not have to worry about the photography at all. We knew after the engagement session that we made the right choice. And he was up for the drive to Sycamore for our quaint country wedding. It is important to us to support small business owners, and we also love that Jake and Jennifer Moreland donate their time to take photos of shelter animals to help get them adopted and foster kittens. They have integrity and it was a pleasure to work with them. I was a little worried about not having a second shooter at the wedding, but Jake got all the shots I remembered from that day, the ones I asked for, and many moments I missed, but enjoyed seeing. After a year of planning, the wedding was over in a blink. That's why a great photographer is so important. It was a 5-star experience looking through the wedding gallery and I know our family and friends will be grateful for the lovely pictures, too. read more

I'm writing this review about our photographers before we even have our wedding pictures back. The first thing that we LOVED about Two Birds was obviously their work. It speaks for itself. We wanted photographers who captured more candid moments vs. the "Hey everyone, stop and look over here and say Cheese!" photographers. Two Birds was perfect. The second thing that we loved? The fact that (if you book 2 photographers) it's this incredible Husband + Wife Duo team!!! They are the CUTEST things ever and work SO well together. I don't know if that has anything to do with why they are so amazing, but keep up the good work if it does! I first had a conversation with Jake over the phone and he answered all of my questions (and there were a lot of them). He wasn't annoyed with how many times I asked him about certain things, he really listened to what I was saying. My husband and I then met with him in person just so we could go over everything more in detail. And he would email me multiple times just to make sure he had all the information he needed. He was amazing! We DID book two photographers, so we DID get the amazing Husband + Wife Duo team (and if you're going back and forth on whether or not you should get 2 photographers-DO it. It's worth the extra money). Flowers wilt and die, pictures last a lifetime. I follow Two Birds on Instagram and Facebook and they put out little teasers of our wedding pictures-and judging just by the few pictures I've seen...I'm DYING inside to see the rest. They are just amazing and really make you feel comfortable when they're shooting you. I thought it would be awkward having someone taking pictures of me all day, but you honestly don't even realize they're there. I'll admit it - I was a skeptic. I didn't really believe that choosing a wedding photographer would make that much of a difference. My fiancee (at the time) showed me their album. "Pretty good, huh?" I had to admit the pictures looked fantastic. But as an indifferent groom, I kind of didn't care which photographer we chose - just as long as it made my fiancee happy. We lived in Austin, and our wedding was in Chicago...so it made things very very difficult not just for us, but for our other vendors as well. During our first call, Jake was patient and understanding. He anticipated a lot of things, things I didn't really think about (or care for.) He walked us through the whole process. "What'd you think?" asked my fiancee. "Fine. He knows his stuff." I was a little annoyed that Jake made me eat my words. Throughout the next few weeks, we would email Jake our questions. And he would always respond quickly and professionally. "He knows his stuff, doesn't he?", she gloated. "I guess he seems like a nice guy. But we'll see what happens when the wedding happens." And then before we knew it, the big day arrived. (Just a warning for those about to get married....you will be amazed at how fast time flies.) Since we planned our wedding from Austin, certain things didn't go as planned. We were admittedly a little disorganized. But let me tell you this - I was amazed at Jake's professionalism and his steadiness. He was not phased by anything. And on your wedding day, that counts for a LOT. At one point, I even asked him where I should stand before the wedding...yeah, it was my first wedding...but like a true pro, he just smiled and told me what to do. I had a few relatives who would jostle him for position when it came to taking photos. He didn't even blink an eye. He just kept going. You can tell that Jake is very passionate about photography, and he's got a great eye for shots. Let me give you some advice...if Jake suggests it, just roll with it. Our pictures turned out to be amazing I know that some people might be tempted to splurge on a cheaper photographer, but let me tell you this - Two Birds Photography is worth every penny and then some. Ok, I just went back and read this review. It's sounds almost too good to be true. But I swear, I am a real person and Jake did an amazing job. You are more than welcome to email me. I don't know where to begin. Jake and Jen Moreland are beyond talented photographers, I think that is made quite obvious from their photos on their website, here, and on numerous wedding style blogs. My husband and I knew from the start that the Morelands are who we wanted to share this day with. We worked with Jake for our engagement pictures and decided to have both of them photograph our wedding at Brookfield Zoo. Jen hung out with the girls most of the morning, and Jake with the guys. Like most people, I am not used to getting my picture taken and having cameras pointing in my direction. Having Jake and Jen there, and knowing the work they do, gave me a sense and trust in whatever moments they were capturing were going to be authentic and truly encompass the best moments of our day. Photos are the one thing you get to have forever (besides your spouse) and I am beyond happy with the final results.
