This gem of a store has been so clutch over the years for picking up gifts. Some of the people in my life are, um, a little hard to shop for, but when I come in here, I always come away with something great. It's all so well-curated; some gifts are classy, some funny, and many are versatile. It beats the socks off of going into a big box store in a million ways. Being in a charming stretch of a walkable area adds to its appeal, and the staff is always friendly. They also have Pickwick candles which are some of the best in town. These soy candles will last multiple seasons and almost all of them smell amazing. Cheers to this shop, they're doing it right and have saved my bacon every December since they've opened.

Hammerpress has a super unique collection of paper goods, candles, soaps, and cards, which makes it a great location for a niche gift. They have beautiful cards for all occasions. There are tons of fancy pens and hand-painted, recycled-paper journals. I droll over all of their carefully curated candles and unique perfumes. This is not a cheap place to shop for a gift, but it's worth it! The recipient of the gift will feel so special and artsy. There is usually plenty of parking on the streets of the West Bottoms, unless it's a First Friday weekend - then expect to have to stroll a far distance, but Hammerpress is located conveniently close to some of my favorite antique shops.

Flash forward and Hammerpress has migrated from their OG location to further down SW BLVD, and now to this new spot in the heart of the West Bottoms. It had been a while since I visited so I wasn't sure where they had moved to, but it seems fitting that they'd end up in the West Bottoms as many of the artists that once had studios in the Crossroads have migrated that direction as well, and it seems true to both their craft as printers, and their vibe as artists to be in yet another cool, up and coming, hip neighborhood. All of this being said, this new spot is by far their coolest. From the arched entryway, to the bright interior, you're going to find everything you've come to expect from Hammerpress. Oh boy a scrapbook store! I don't know how I missed this one but I do go there. I like to make…read morecards and take classes on making cards and buy things for making cards...there's a pattern that might need professional help! And when I need professional help, I visit LS Scrapbook Boutique. She has an answer to every one of my dumb questions: How do you glue such a tiny strand of paper? Was that made with a Sizzix? What ink is that? How do I color that? She has monthly crop-ins. That's where you do scrapbooking or card making for 2 days straight. She has weekly classes. She has oddities that can't be bought at Hobby Lobby. She has lay out 12/12 kits. It literally is a scrapbook boutique.

This is a bit of a parenting test to come on a busy day with little kids; it gets packed, and there are lots of lovely yet very breakable items. So far, our track record is aces! This last visit in, we found a candle, a gift for the mother-in-law, and a hedgehog ornament that my daughter was very upset to not come away with. They already have fall scents ( yes it's mid August but I'm definitely a fall girl!) Today I bought the Apple Tart. They also have a selection of local favorites, which I bought Brookside Bungalow which is a very fresh, clean, relaxing scent. The store will be celebrating their 20th anniversary on Sept 23.... A dozen votive candles for $36 (usually $42.50). Tip -The container of Brookside Bungalow can be brought back and refilled for $2/oz with any of the scents they are filling that month. You can actually bring in any container as long as it holds water.

Lori is a dedicated and passionate owner that has a keen sense of what works together. The shop carries over 170 different scents which means there is literally something for everyone there. They don't have just have candles but wax melts, home décor, oils, and a variety of candle sizes. Lori was a guest on my podcast, Kansas City Confidential, where she shared all about the process of making their products and some of her favorite scents. We talked about how scents are like personalities and how everyone has a scent that fits their personality. Lori and her team are awesome and so hopeful to their customers.
