I feel lots of affection for the concept of Yoki, so I'm going up to 4 stars although, it might be a 3 some days. They have a great selection of Asian candies and trinkets and beautiful tea service sets. Where I get lost is the service - it's totally lackluster. Snacks and drinks are pricey. Housewares - cute, but def pricey. You can get same or similar items at asian grocery stores KC or MO. Pop figures - they do have anime and pokemon ones. What a gem of a place! It's like a very mini, mini Daiso. It's basically a Japanese gift shop and home goods store. Half the store is a majority of Japanese snacks (including lots of Ramune soda & KitKat options) & plushies. They also had a section dedicated to Japanese dinnerware. It's tucked inside River Market and I cannot believe it's taken me so long before going inside. Lots of cute things, but the snacks were my favorite. I let my kids come here to pick their own dessert snack, while I try a new KitKat flavor. read more

Fun shop of Asian and Kawaii products! We bought a bunch of Kit-Kat and Pocky flavors that we hadn't seen before. I wish there were more Hello Kitty, Pusheen, and dinnerware items, though. The store was well organized and bright and the employee was pleasant but she just sat behind the register. read more

A pretty cool place if you are looking to pick up cute stuff! Stumbled upon it while walking around that foodie area of KC and am glad I did! The things aren't cheap there but I ended up getting a Totoro and Pusheen plushies to add to my collection. They also have a bunch of other cute plushies, stickers, drinks, etc, etc! Yoki is a Japense imported goods store with items ranging from kitchenware, plushies, snacks, and more. However, a lot of the items that you will find here will be overpriced compared to other places. My purpose for coming here was to see if they had some uncommon kit Kat flavors, which they did, but not ones that I hadn't already tried. When I was there their only options were strawberry, green tea, and bakable vanilla ice cream. The bags of kit Kat were ~$7 which is pretty expensive considering the strawberry and green tea kit Kats can be found in Asian supermarkets for $5 a bag. read more

I'd been aware of Yoki, but hadn't visited until this weekend, thinking I had no need for Hello Kitty paraphernalia. It turns out, they have so much more inside the store! Dishes, food items, toiletries and beauty products from Japan, toys, origami supplies, bento box crafting supplies and so much more. The prices seemed reasonable overall. Yoki is a little Japanese wonderland. There are snacks like green tea Kit Kats and many flavors of Pretz and Pocky (I currently am loving the Tom Yum Pretz and the Green-Tea Cream-FIlled Pocky). Yoki mostly focusses on housewares. You can find porcelain teaware, serveware, kitchen tools, and beauty products. Of course there are a few Hello Kitty things, phone cases, "stuffed animal" sushi figurines, and other random stuff. There is also a big line of Tea Forte brand tea bags and loose leaf tea. I always find something interesting here. On my recent visit I got a matcha roll cake slice-shaped sponge! Who knew such a thing existed or that I would want one?! read more

The selection is extremely limited, your more likely to find more anime items at an FYE or hot topic, but it is purely anime focused and the staff were very pleasant. There are some unique items that make it worth stopping in if you're near their area but if the drive is more than a few minutes you might be disappointed. read more

If this store was 1/4 the size, it'd easily be 4 stars. I could totally get behind a store of Japanese imports, hoping to satisfy ex-pats and japanophiles alike. But as this store stands, in order to keep this large number of shelves filled it more resembles a Japanese Family Dollar, which isn't the type of place I feel like spending my time or money. First the good: The front half of the store. It's kitschy, but then again so is Japanese pop culture. Lots of candy, Hello Kitty and other stereotypical Japanese knick-knacks. A definite fun place to browse. Then you have the bad: The back half of the store. Yes, this is a Japanese imports store, but who is really clamoring for Japanese kitchen sponges? Just because something was made in Japan doesn't make it worth selling at marked up import prices. The bulk of the store is quite general and dull merchandise that isn't all that much unlike what you'd find at any of the stores with the word "Dollar" in the name, only more expensive. This place is fine and worth a walk through, but it's significantly less fun and exotic than I had imagined. read more

The retail game at the City Market just got kicked up a few notches with the opening of Yoki. Mom and pop shopping is fun and it's a cool way to do business. This is something else entirely and it is waaay cool. Whoever put this shop together, has a great eye and sense of layout and design. The product offering is fun, beautiful and/or special. Snacks, art supplies, personal goods, home decor, gorgeous orchids, kitchen goods. Lot's of assorted chotchkies. And all things seem to be offered at really good prices. Have to say I noted the ceramics too, but unlike another reviewer, I thought they were great value for the quality. I purchased a set of sushi/appetizer trays while there. I love this store and I hope it never goes away! Kansas City needed a Japanese convenience store and now we have one! I missed visiting shops like this from when I lived in SF. This store has everything you might want: Japanese candies, drinks, kitchen items, stickers (so cute), Hello Kitty, anime merch, beauty items, and cute things galore! I always pick up stickers when I come in and occasionally I'll get a marble soda. My husband is always sure to stock up on Hello Panda cookies. The last time I was in, I got an apple pie Kit-Kat. Oh, Yoki, you were such a disappointment to me. I was hoping for a Japantown-like experience, but I ended up with Dollar Store meets tourist joint. They do have some cute Japanese stuff in here and also lots of plastic crap. Most of the prices are way too much for the items they have. I squee'd a little when I walked into this shop. All my favorite kit kats were on display. These are flavors you can only get in Japan. Cheaper here then on Amazon to be sure but till expensive. Lots of cute thing which tugged at my love of my time in Japan. A quick $50 and I was back in kit kats and hi-chew and other hard to find goodies. read more

Yoki is a nice addition to Kansas City. These types of Japanese inspired goods store are usually hidden within ChinaTowns in much larger cities, but we now have something like this in our city. The nieces and nephews really enjoyed the store, buying up interesting art supply and pens. Come by and support our new business. Really neat place! Just opened yesterday, we managed to make a stop in today to check it out. They carry Japanese themed novelty and housewares. You can find everything from kitchenware, various authentic Asian candy, a surplus of Hello Kitty items, cutesy office items, and an array of other cheery goods in between. Their dishes & ceramics do seem a little bit more expensive in comparison to similar ones at other Asian markets. Overall they have a lot of stuff I haven't seen anywhere else so it's definitely a unique retail space that's worth the trip. Staff is wonderful as well! read more

Staff is respectful and helpful. Interesting products. Got my son some Domo kun "monster lights" and the product needs work, they don't all actually stay on nor do they all go on. I need to tape them on since we are keeping them. Don't recommend getting them again though. I'm being picky but I wish they would spread from being Japan-focused to Chinese, Korean, etc products. read more

First time to City Market in awhile and me and my family discovered this new little gem. Yoki is a great place for a lot of home goods with an asian twist. For the type of products they carry, their selection is pretty wide. Lots of awesome home goods like bento boxes, knives, tea/sake sets and accessories to asian style treats from Hello Panda and HiChew to Pocky and Ramune Soda. Also a great place for any asian cuisine fan for they have a decent selection of stuff for curry, sushi, etc. Lots of great stationary supplies and home decor too. Staff was super friendly, nicely organized and clean store, and prices are fair. This place is a must for me and my family now anytime we come out to KC. Can't wait to use my new bento box. read more
