My favorite bar in Cork. If you like rock, especially punk, you can't afford to miss this place.

It's hard to write a proper review of a place you really love. I look past all the short-comings of the Brog since it was one of the first pubs I drank in. Arguably, the best thing about the Brog is the size. It's a maze of a place, with quiet spots and more lively sections. Even at it's busiest, you can still find a spot to hide away in. Living in Cork for a year, I had quite a few friends who had a love/hate relationship with the Brog. Great place to party, draft was terrible; that kind of thing. I actually really enjoyed myself anytime I was there. The crowd is young, the music is loud and the nights are often ragers. The pub itself is a big enough space filled with nooks and crannies to either stuff belongings or have a chat. I have some great memories of fooseball, lurking down the smoking alley and dancing my butt off with randoms on the floor. It's loved by locals, especially the college students, and definitely a place you need to experience, if only once. I'm sure next time I'm in Cork I'll feel a little different about the Brog, but for now, I'll cherish that smelly, sticky pub. read more

awesome pub where during the day you can get 2.90 pints untill 9 PM. There is a variety of metal and rock music played which isnt too loud most of the time. small pub during the day but in the evenings they open up a bigger room to accomidate everyone. Sometimes they have live bands playing or they will have a table quiz. They also have a fooseball table and vending machines incase you get the munchies. This is a dark and casual pub that plays a variety of music from Metallica to Michael Jackson. A pint of Heineken is €4.90, not that far from the prices in Dublin. The smoking area is closed off with sparse seating, so you can bring your drinks with you, but you may have to set them on the ground. The later it gets the drunker and rowdier the crowd gets. I saw the aftermath of a vicious fight that led to the crowd being pushed out of the smoking area doorway. I do have to commend the security for the attentive medical aid that they gave the bloody guy. They even beefed up security inside for the safety of other party-goers. All in all I felt alright about the place and would come back here again for a night of debauchery in Cork City. Oh yeah and for all of you who like to participate in public displays of affection, beware of the NO SHIFTING sign behind the bar! read more

I agree with Reg and Dave below - this is one of my favourite pubs, used to be my local for a about three or so years, so many many happy (if a little hazy) memories of this place, so perhaps Im a little biased! Having said that, anyone that I have introduced to the Brog has been enchanted with it - I guess my friends really are that cool.... :p The place is a must-go-to place if new in Cork, does great music, and possibly the same crowd going in there for as long as Ive known it...dark and shadowy with all sorts of nooks and crannys (crannies?) with posters adorning the walls promoting all sorts of underground indie local and otherwise bands. Love the fact that even if I havent been there in a year or so, the bouncer will still say hey Sharon,how are ya garrr-ill, and get a right ol catch-up on all thats been happening. The Brog was one of my favorite pubs in Cork and likely the most fun late bar in the city. The crowd was always great here, primarily a UCC student bar. Good pints, fantastic music, and dancing. It's also nice to hang out on their outside smoking patio which doesn't get wet in the rain. read more

Definite favourite from my student days, but now with a much broader audience, the Brog is one of the best places in Cork for a night out. It stays open late, and can accommodate smokers well. Very fun place to hang out. Good music playing, always a lotta people around and suprisingly good food on the spot if you get the munchies. I arrived in the bròg tonight with high expectations. I've heard it is a good spot. I arrived, barley even got served at the bar due to the crowds. I eventually got a drink. I was there for most of the night. To be honest the music kept me there, it suited my taste perfectly. Last call was served, and I ordered my drink. I turned around and was met by a staff member who was cleaning up. He asked me to bring my drink outside as they were cleaning up the inner bar. I did with no hesitation. Outside I was greeted with a bròg security guard. Without saying a word, took my glass off me and told me to leave as I was outside with a drink. I presume there was a miscommunication between the staff and the security. Still, it was very unprofessional and judgemental. I hope the bròg will take corrective action towards this. read more

The rating I am giving The Brog reflects my most recent experience here and not my overall impression of this pub, however my love for this lively spot was certainly marred when I ordered a drink here earlier tonight. I have never been served by anyone as rude as the blonde lady (whose name I regret not getting but will make a point of asap) served me. I ordered without delay, despite the bar not being busy at all and I simply asked what Kopperberg options were available, and I misheard her response. She very abruptly and condescendingly raised her voice at me and corrected me, also bluntly stating the cost (at this point, the music was not loud at all and anything said was perfectly audible. Her rudeness even caused the two friends I was with to be very taken aback, to be honest I was in disbelief that anyone with communication skills as awful as her should be employed. This is one of my favourite spots that I often go to, I am always greeted by security and bartenders alike and it is no reflection on any other friendly staff members. However, bartenders should have all the necessary skills when interacting with the public in such an environment ,and be able to establish an instant rapport with customers and maybe not act like someone pissed in their cornflakes. read more

Back in the halcyon days of the early nineties, An Brog was a small, dingy little pub with the most eclectic clientele to be found this side of St Anne's Hospital. Unfortunately, the twenty-first century brought with it the rise of the Cork multi-floored superpub; and soon the individual and highly distinctive bars of An Brog, the Hairy Lemon and An Crannog were knocked through into Cork's only alternative superpub, An Brog. The room on the left as you enter is more of a thoroughfare than a bar; what used to be the old An Brog as you walk in through the door is still the place to sit if you're wearing your fanciest gladrags and wanting to be seen; and to the right is the biggest bar, where live bands and DJs are found at the weekend, and which seems to be almost perpetually packed at the weekend with eager young rocker students and not-so-eager old-timers who seem almost unaware that their local's been opened up to five times the size. A default evening meeting place for Cork's alternative population, An Brog can always be depended on to be lively and packed but with quick service with a grin. read more

Just don't bother. They couldn't care less about your custom either way. Having patronised the place extensively over the years, I moved away for the first time and came back to Cork for Christmas. It was my first night out with my friends since I was back and 1.50am I said I'd get us one last round of drinks. Went to the bar and the bartender said the female bouncer said he wasn't allowed serve me. I found it somewhat funny, laughed and said okay and went back to my friends in the smoking area as it was closing it ten mins anyway. The female bouncer followed me out and told me I had to leave. I reasoned with her I wasn't particularly drunk but she wouldn't listen and insisted upon kicking only me out. I was somewhat confused as to what I did between the walk to the bar and back that entailed I was being kicked out with ten minutes to go, when there was no issue beforehand. I also could not see a visible PSA licence nor was I offered one when I complained. Thanks a lot anyway for kicking me out with ten minutes to go, on my own as a young girl, on my first night back in Cork. To note, I did complain via facebook, as soon as I went home that evening to show I was in fact rather coherent, and heard nothing. I wouldn't darken the doorway again if it was the only bar left in Cork. read more
