Had dinner here on our first day in Cork. We started at a table and after dinner made our way to the bar. For dinner my wife ordered the Irish lamb stew and I had the fish and chips. The stew was superb,it had plenty of lamb and nicely cut pieces of potato and root vegetables. This was the best stew by far after having stew twice while in Dublin. The fish was good but not the best I've had and the chips were a little lukewarm. Once at the bar we enjoyed some drinks and stayed for the live music until closing. Also, Michael gave us some great recommendations for places to go in Cork. Glad we found this pub and I'd recommend it to travelers. read more

We were on 'holiday' in Cork (we're American so it is vacation) and stopped by this wonderful place. The food was delicious and the service was decent - could tell they were not expecting a huge rush from the cruise coming in as even the owner was out there delivering food. We really liked the ambiance of the pub. It felt like an Irish pub. We love the Rockshore Irish Lager that we were served. My friend said her pulled pork sandwich was the best she had ever had. She said the cheese they used put it over the top. We, three ladies, had the oven roasted chicken with roasted root vegetables. The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the veggies were delicious. Our waitress was outstanding. Olivia was truly on the ball from her welcoming smile to her attentive service. She is a definite asset for this pub. Terrible experience. We attended this restaurant as part of a tour group. Our guide had made a reservation in our behalf and we were part of a group of 28. We had a strict time line, we arrived at 6 pm and had to be back on our bus by 8. Bus was a 15 minute walk from the restaurant. We were seated in the back room. By the time the server took our order, some of our group had received their meals. We ordered drinks and they took 20 minutes to arrive. 30 minutes go by. No meals arrive. By this time, some of our fellow travellers were finished eating and were paying their bills. We track down the server, who said our food was coming. 20 minutes later , the food finally came with no apologies or offer to compensate us. By this time, it was 7:20. Most of the tour group was gone by this time. We shovelled the food into us and had to track the server down for the bill. We asked to speak to the manager who didn't seem too concerned about our experience. He basically blamed our tour operator for booking us in late in the day, when really all he needed to do was assign another server to our section. We luckily did not miss the bus , although the manager was not concerned about this either. Food was just ok. This place is a joke. read more

After being out all day on our coach tour, we decided to wander around the neighborhood of our hotel to find a dinner restaurant, and settled on Oliver Plunkett. Turned out to be a pretty good choice. We opted to eat inside, which was nice. No music the night we were there, but no big deal. We both wanted to back off the traditional Irish fare for the night, and my wife had the bruschetta, and a side of vegetables. I had the roast chicken with potatoes and dressing. She said hers was okay, but I thought mine was pretty good. The chicken was cooked well, and the sides were good. We also had a couple of drinks. Stopped by for a pint or two while waiting for our table at nearby Goldie's Seafood restaurant (amazing by the way). Large place with no cover charge to hear and see live music. They have a real stage (sort of) instead of musicians huddled around a small table. Two gents were playing and the acoustic guitar was electrified -so the sound was excellent. We didn't eat -- but folks seemed to be enjoying their food. Would come back again as it's a comfortable place to hear tradiional Irish music (at least the night we popped in). read more

I was expecting it to be touristy. Though there are many out-of-towners, the food, service and beer selection were all very good.

Visiting from California and being completely entertained from what I would imagine as being a "100% Irish experience" but more likely just for us tourists, this is your place. A packed bar pub setting with two levels beer and whiskey in the air, you look to the left and there's a 3 man band playing a guitar and two instruments you might see in the Game of Thrones. I was here for work and so I sat at a small table upstairs where they sat me next to a worn through makeshift stage with just a 2 man band. Auth tic Irish music was blaring and the floor was equally packed. I sat down and ordered a pint of Murphy's, a stout native to Cork and a Guinness competitor. I ordered a beef and Guinness pie with veggies but there were several things on the menu I would have loved to get like the fullrack of ribs or the Irish beef stew. All were very affordable and portions when it came out were hearty. The pie had a 3 inch puff pastry crust and the sauce was thick and rich with flavor. The meat was a bit tough but there was plenty of it. On the side I had a scoop of Mashers that I would use as my sponge to soak up all the yummy goodness of the pie. Mind you I had my creamy pint of Murphy's washing it all down with a Smithwicks Red ( pronounced Smitticks!) on backup. Then all of a sudden the music stops and tow teenage boys walk out on the wartorn plywood stage and start dancing a jig!! Holy shit I'm officially in Ireland! The music starts up mid jig and continues off and on throughout the meal. No wonder the stage looks beat up! These kids are knocking the shit out of it. Thoroughly impressed already the boys come out with violins and start playing with the band. A really great place for exactly what you hear Ireland is all about. Once again I wish Yelp had half stars! I am torn. Sunday night we attended the dinner and a show. Upon walking into the establishment I was a little disappointed as we were lead upstairs away from the live band downstairs but them to my surprise we had it even better on the 2nd floor! Traditional Irish live music playing! Then... Irish Step dancers came out and went at it! What a great opportunity to experience especially for my 6 year old daughter. The dancers left quite a last impression on her especially their broom dance! (They also were super nice and let her take a photo with them!) The meal... I tried the lamb Irish stew. The stew was flavorful but the lamb was quite chewy. My daughter had the chicken coujons (aka tenders) so moist and cooked perfectly! So fresh too! My mother had the cabbage and bacon which she raved over! Our friends both had the fish and chips. The dinner was a great meal at $25 for a entrée and choice of an app or dessert. We went the dessert route. Hands down all around (minus ice cream for the little one) Bailey's cheesecake. it was good! Creamy and a soft crust. Their drink choices were vast here and extremely cold! The food was delicious. That being said, we waited for over an hour and a half for a soup and salad without any check ins for drink refills. While we understand we came in to the restaurant during the dinner rush and there was a new waitress training, the service felt neglectful and we would have appreciated a comp/discount of some sort. This pub was probably my favorite pub during our whole trip! We went on a night they played traditional music and dance. The service was great and the food was even better! We ordered a calamari appetizer and I had the... don't hold your breath... fish and chips! This particular entree of fish and chips had to be my favorite because of how light the batter was and how flakey the fish was. They also served it with a minted mushy peas, which I thought was different, but good. We also sat near a group from the UK that were a very lively bunch. The board outside stated they served meals up until 9pm and they do. They also have live music each evening. However, what makes this place so great are the droves of Irish accents all vying for attention as they crowd the bar and tables after a long day at work. The dark wood bar and ceilings add to the ambience and the service rivals any stateside! Smiles abound and laughter rings out and in between are the locals trying to solve the world's problems, two seated beside us in particular. Funny thing is, the more they drink the more ideas they have and they swing from uber serious to giggling beneath a pile of what could be best described as friendly and incredibly non-offensive cussing, never knew there was such a thing until now. To the food, we opted for wings and even though they were billed as 'very hot' compared to American hot wings they were between a mild to medium heat. A quick request for additional hot sauce brought them up to par quite nicely. Blue cheese dip was delicious and the banoffee pie, pure joy. Over all, if you have enough time to just kick back and enjoy blending in with the locals, this is the place to do it. Also if Aisling happens to be working, ask her to recommend local drinks to suit your palate - the lass knows that by which she talks about! What an INCREDIBLE place to grab dinner & drinks! First off, they have live music seven days a week. It's the perfect background ambiance to dinner or drinks. All of the food we got was delicious. My husband and I were excited to be at this pub. Lively crowd, great music. We ordered a pint of Guinness and a glass of Merlot. After taking a sip I noticed my wine glass had lip smudges along the rim of the glass. My husband took it back to the bartender for a replacement. He kindly gave him another glass of wine but dumped the wine I had sipped from back into the open bottle of wine!! My husband told the bartender you can't do that. You just contaminated the entire bottle. The manager told my husband not to tell his bartender what to do. We were shocked the manager didn't step in. Clearly a health code violation. read more

We ate dinner here on March 27th and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good, wife in particular like the Irish Stew. The bailey's cheesecake was phenomenal. Service was efficient, atmosphere was great and the entertainment was very good. The first set had two artist a banjo and Irish guitar players. As much as it is in a tourist area, there were lot of locals here, it was easy to decide. I had the fish and chips, and it was amazing...Freshly caught haddock, had to be one of the best I've had. Came for dinner and were sat next to the fire place which was awesome because it was a little chilly outside. The staff were friendly and fast and the food was great. We came here for dinner and were disappointed by the service and size of portions. First, we were seated right away but had to wait for a long time for the server to come by our table. She walked by us multiple times without making any eye contact. We finally flagged her down and got her attention. She was not friendly in the least. While we waited for our food, we noticed the hostess seating two other tables and those people left because they never received service from a waiter. Any how, I ordered the BBQ sandwich and sweet potato fries. My partner ordered the lamb stew. Both of our portions were quite small. His was the smallest stew we have seen while in Ireland. The occasion is rare when I go to the same spot in one day, and the Oliver Plunkett is one of them. Why? Multiple reasons--the food, the music, the beer selection, and the food. I am serious about the food though. Ireland used to be a food nightmare, for me anyway. Bland, boring, plain. But this last trip, a number of spots impressed me and the Plunkett was among them. Try the lamb stew. Super tasty. My rating really is based on more than eats, but the whole operation. It becomes a whole new place at night. The second floor comes alive. Music is good and service is also good. Problem is the food is the worst I have had in Ireland in the last three cities. Fish and chips are a traditional dish. Here, It is good if you only like fried crust. Also the hostess makes you feel like she is doing you a favor by giving you a seat. We asked for a table and the hostess said she would look. Never came back. When we saw her walking the floor, we asked if we were ok. She said there were no tables and we would have a 40 minute. It's very loud, but very fun!!! The bee is cold the wine is okay. The music upstairs was a blast. Dances the Irish jig with a local who was celebrating his retirement. Great fun!!! The food just average. We had the fried Cork cheddar with onion jam. It's was great but would have been a better with a couple of slices of bread. I had the salad, it was average. You come to Ireland to eat salads let's face it... but I needed a break from all the meat. The Irish stew was good, again average, the roast chicken was better.
