They clearly saw us, even made eye contact at times, but just kept moving, taking orders of folks who walked up to the bar well after we had sat down. It was the strangest experience of bar service we had experienced in Killarney. Once the bartender actually acknowledged us, she was friendly. We got our drinks and moved to the front room where they had live music. We finished our drinks, enjoyed the music and called it a night after one pint. The space has all the character of an old Irish pub and we had high hopes for Courtney's, but sadly it was the one negative experience on our trip. Overall, disappointed. Enjoyed the pint and the space is cool, but we wouldn't recommend as a "must do" on a trip to Killarney.

You then start with drinks in the garden (they have a selection of wine on sale) before moving onto a four course set menu in the house. The ferry then drops you back at midnight, where you should have a taxi waiting (it is a very windy and dark road back to Skibbereen). The menu costs €40, and bottles of wine start at €20. This is a really magical place to spend an evening.

The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. Tommy O'Sullivan and Jeremy Spencer played a brilliant set tonight--a mix of vocal pieces and instrumentals that had the audience shouting approval after every song. Brilliant!
