But for a long time, I thought supporting a local spot was worth the extra coin for the neighborhood vibe. Unfortunately, my last weekend trip completely soured that experience. They say that in the produce section, just one bad apple can spoil the entire bunch--and the exact same philosophy applies to customer service. If you happen to shop on a weekend, you might just run into their most disagreeable staff members, prime examples of whom seem to be holding down the registers. Take Lee F., for instance. I expected a pleasant checkout, but instead received an experience defined by sharp, deeply rude responses that left me wondering why she is stationed anywhere near the public. If management has any sense of self-preservation for their customer base, they might want to consider shifting her to the overnight crew where human interaction isn't a requirement. Until they figure out that a sour cashier can ruin an entire shopping experience just as fast as bruised fruit, I'll be taking my grocery budget elsewhere.

Purchased a 2017 GSM (grenache-syrah-mouvedre) from Latta, Columbia Valley AVA ($25) and a 2019 Syrah from Rockgarden Vineyards, Walla Walla AVA. Looking forward to trying both soon! We walked in and there were tons of salmon products, along with candy and other foodie items that we tourists crave. We got a couple of samples then chose bags of salmon candy. We left, got to our hotel and saw a card on the card rack saying that if you turn it in to Sea Bear, you get a free item and a souvenir picture. Wo we went back to Sea bear to get everything we had coming. Because we bought so much the first time, we got a free bag of salmon jerky. Then the cashier showed us the background for the photo, had us put on fisherman jackets, and she rolled out a real gigantic fish. We were all delighted taking pictures. My SIL put it on her Facebook and everyone was convinced they'd caught the fish. Sh e didn't correct them, lol. My niece of course had to have the fish shaped chocolate and I needed my stickers, so this was a one stop souvenir place for us and they got another sale from us, which was fine by us, since we had such a fun time.

We had several grilled oysters, shrimp, geoduck (my first time!) and some raw oysters to top off a mid-afternoon snack. We all grabbed a drink, including a pinot freezio, which is something I NEED to learn how to make. It was a pinot grigio slushie! While I normally think the grilled oysters up north are a bit better, today they were out of this world. The raw ones were fantastic and although I do usually prefer a few more accoutrements, it was nice to have only simple lemon with them - no vinegar or hot sauce that day, for some reason. Geoduck is something every non-PNW person asks you about and I can finally say I've had it - I say go eat it because you'll not have anything like it. It was a ceviche style snack and it wasn't rubbery or fishy at all. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to say they ate the massive mollusk. It's off the side of Chuckanut drive down a pretty steep and skinny hill, so take care. Parking can be tough during peak season but it's worth the drive. Thei views are gorgeous and there's something eating fresh seafood next to the water, looking out over the bay. I can't wait to take the next group of friends that visit!
