This place was great. It's in a cool farmers market. The woman that rang us up was really kind which is rare at good coffee shops. Usually someone that makes good espresso is a self righteous prick with an old hat and thrifted clothes with cat hair on it to somehow appear more intellectual than everyone. Was happy to see the guy making my coffee matches that description and ignored me when I said thank you. This arrogant gentleman makes great coffee none the less. read more

In another life; I was a barista at a shop that roasted their own beans in-house, and I thought that was the best coffee I had ever had... but I have to say, Fratello has been slowly nudging their way in to that spot in my caffeinated heart. Although in the middle of the busy CFM, their staff make a fine latte with which to trawl the market and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Their pastries also nicely top off the flavours... On the brew side, if you are interested, try their special drip coffee, or go for your favourite drink at the barista machine. Although not my fav beans, pretty good also. read more

Lots of hype about this place but I was let down. First off it is on a main corner in the market by a main door and so crowds are tight. You place your order with the cashier (no one of the baristas told us that after waiting to give our order for 15 minutes). Addicted to this place. I visit the Farmer's Market almost each weekend just for this coffee. And I'm not even the biggest coffee fan, until now. Yes, they are slightly pricier, but they make it worth your while to line up, and wait the 5-10 minutes for your free drip coffee (using the Chemex). They small batch roast their coffees, and I feel like I can taste the difference. They have a new menu of available coffee's each time I visit, which is a nice variation to be able to have different offerings. For some reason I feel that this coffee is better than Phil & Sebastian's, Deville's and obviously Starbucks, maybe even Beano's if I may be so bold! Fratello Analog Cafe is the first retail venture for Fratello Coffee Roasters, and my gosh it was worth waiting for. Fratello is, along with Phil & Sebastian and Edmonton's Transcend, the pinnacle of coffee roasters in Alberta and among the best in Canada and they've been supplying beans to some of Calgary's best third-wave shops (Beano, Crema, Insomnia) for years. They've finally opened their own cafe and it's at the new Calgary Farmer's Market near Heritage and Blackfoot. For those of you- and I used to be very much among you- mourning the loss of Phil & Sebastian at the new CFM, mourn not. P&S are stil very much around, with cafes in Marda Loop and at Chinook Centre. As well and more important is the fact that Analog fills their big shoes superbly. They have a beautiful combo of state-of-the-art equipment, with TWO three-group slayer espresso machines, as well as charmingly old-fashioned but still incredibly intelligent brewed coffee options in the form of two six-station pourover bars for the freshest brewed coffee conceivable. I got a traditional cappuccino and it was heaven in a cup. Took home a bag of their peerless Costa Rican Tarrazu beans (the same ones as were used for my cappo) and can't wait to crack the bag open. The whole new CFM is a delight and it's great to see Fratello as part of it! read more

It's been a few years since I've written a proper review of a coffee shop, so strap in. I have a theory that if you can serve incredible coffee at a high level, and create and maintain a successful business doing it - you can literally be successful at anything. I've seen a lot of coffee shops with great potential come and go and 99% of the time, the beginning of the end is a loss in consistency. Analog at the Calgary Farmers Market in 1 year of weekly visits, does not and has NEVER suffered from this problem. Hands down, Analog is the #1 coffee shop in Calgary (in my coffee snob opinion). When you get into the top the margin of difference is super narrow and the competition is stiff. The 3 things that make the most difference to me are: 1. Consistency (and the margin of difference week after week) 2. Mouth feel (a close second, this makes or breaks a great coffee, especially the traditional cappuccino) 3. Taste (how well dialed in are they) Analog has never let me down. All the staff are super cool, spend enough time there and say hi and you'll get to know them. I encourage you to check it out. Always my first stop when I hit the market. Very much enjoy the coffee here and it's spot on every time (cappuccino girl). When the kids are with me they become memorized by watching the pour over brew bar and could stand there for hours if I let them (what hubs gets). Sometimes I think this is a lesson learned through the eyes of kids, take the time to slow down and observe the beauty and sometimes simplicity of your environment. Loved the coffee... altough, it was a difficult wait time and could see a couple of other guys just hanging around instead of making more coffee to cut on wait times. I also liked the setup of the cafe, BUT it seemed like only one side was in use, not sure why... with all of us waiting for a cup of coffee, it would be nice to see more action there... read more

Great products, good location, friendly though not always the most efficient service. Coffees are fantastic. Best at the CFM and among the best in Calgary/Western Canada. My wife tells me the chai tea latte is literally the best she's had in the city (the flavor mix, made in Calgary, is available retail). And, the bottle Dry sodas are exceptional, albeit really pricey. The thing that can be occasionally maddening about Analog is the service. I'll echo the other reviews that state: over all of the times I've been there, the staff are almost always very friendly, only occasionally somewhat pretentious, but rarely very efficient. The pour-over brew bar has spaces for 8 cups, but rarely do you see more than 2 or 3 being used, even with a long lineup. That may be changing however, as my last couple visits showed 5 or 6 coffees being made at a time (enough to bump my planned rating from a 3 to 4). I wouldn't drive across town to head here, but if I'm in the area or at the market, this would absolutely be my first choice. read more

I kinda like this place, only that the whole 10+ customers in line, 6 employees on duty, just 1 on cash and just 3 making drinks didn't really work out well for me. Kinda reminded me of that King of the Hill episode where Hank works at a co-op. The other employees at the co-op thought that an interpretive dance to keep people in line entertained is the best way to ameliorate a long lineup instead of, say, opening a second till. I imagine the same line of reasoning occurs here. Like the lineups & dog fucking, I was also kinda turned off that a large cappuccino was $6.50 or something. And that a "large" is 12 ounces. And that the baristas kinda proudly said "TWELVE OUNCE CAPPUCCINO!" when it was ready. It's almost like they're mocking us. I mean, it was a great cappuccino, but, uh, a "large" is $6.50 and 12 ounces. 9 sips and it was all done. Man, you can't do anything in calgary anymore. I kinda don't know why someone would go out of their way to hit up this place. Calgary has horrible food, drink, museums, culture, and night life, but really good radio and surprisingly exceptional coffee. House in K town sells and uses Fratello beans. Not to mention Kawa on 15th and 8th SW is of what I would say superior quality. And at the aforementioned places, you're not surrounded by yuppie fucks donning $200 rubber boots, $1000 strollers, and way too much money and time. I'm big on Customer Service and there just isn't much at Analog. If you complete the contact form you get ignored. typical Calgary I must say!!! Coffee is good but I've had better. Pastries are lame and the muffins are even worse. A few months ago they developed a couple of tasty muffins and then removed them . When you ask why they give you another lame excuse. All the millennials like them because the 17th ave store is a hangout. Oh , don't ever ask for a job if you ausre not a millenial because you will get told they are not hiring and then when you go for your coffee the following week there is new staff. Hmm.......... Anyway not that i know more about them \i would not want to work there. Starbucks is far better for work. The staff is pleasant though at Analog. . Last week I bought a doughy white muffin that was supposed to be raspberry . what a joke!!! I had one raspberry in the entire muffin. When I wrote to get it replaced they again ignored me. No more crappy muffins for me at $3.70 each. Also they are so cheap that when they make an Americano they put the coffee into a holder, tamp it, adn then weigh it ???? Heaven forbid they give you a few extra granules for a tiny cup that costs $4.10 with tax. Just cant figure why Calgarians love to get financially raped every week. I used to work at Starbucks , one of the most successful coffee companies in the world. They do not measure!!! And if you write to them YOU DO NOT GET IGNORED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i so dislike Arrogance of some of these shops!! Won't be visiting again. The coffee is good but I was told by the staff member who made my coffee that if I wanted it hotter, "There are other options available in the Farmer's Market". When I ordered the latte, I specifically asked for an Extra hot latte. When the staff member gave it to me his comments were as above. I guess that Fratello's policy is that THEY are always right and the customer is not. Perhaps the attitude should be that they recommend that the latte is served at a certain temperature but if you want it hotter then it is at your own risk. For this arrogant attitude, I will be taking my business elsewhere and recommending to others to do the same. read more

Excellent americano! Has a nice crema/froth. Has all direct trade coffees and teas and some organic. There are high tables with stools and places to plug in and wifi. In the same building with the farmer's market. read more
