I've been wanting to go this spot for a while, and I finally got my chance when I was driving through the area. When I walked out to the stand, I was graded by some very friendly people and ordered a couple of tacos. One with the roasted pork meat and one pork belly. I wanted the tacos how they are meant to be served (no mods) and that is topped with minced cabbage and two mustard-based salsas. They also put a piece of crispy pork skin on the plate before handing it over. These tacos are so delicious and unique to other styles of tacos we have in LA. Because of the preparation, they eat a little cleaner and lighter than say Carnitas (I'm a big fan of both styles). The mustard salsa gives it a nice kick and zesty flavor. The pork skin, for me at least, is reminiscent to some really crispy lechon I recently had at a Filipino friend's house. Heck, the way the pork is served here is not unlike luaus or big Vietnamese special occasion celebrations I experienced growing up where a whole pig would be ordered. The mustard based salsa also reminds me of South Carolina style barbecue with their Carolina Gold barbecue sauce. Make no mistake, these tacos are very Mexican. Specifically in the style of Acaponeta, Nayarit (as stated on their sign - I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert). Parking was easy because I turned into a lot where it seems like it was an industrial business park. This place is kind of unique because when you turn onto the street it feels like you are approaching a street fair or small scale farmers market. If you wanted to, you could have a full on taco or food crawl along the street alone

The owner? and chef were there manning the grill. They were incredibly friendly and very personable. I chatted with them the whole time they were getting my tacos ready. They let me know they had pork meat, and pork belly, and that they could do a mix. I went with 5 mixed tacos, 1 with "spicy" mustard salsa, and 4 with normal mustard salsa. How were they? Bomb! The mustard sauce was so unique. I've only had one other pork product with mustard based sauce (Payne's BBQ in Memphis, TN, my favorite BBQ sandwich in the WORLD) and its pretty rare to see. The tacos were fantastic! The pork was part chewy, part crispy, part gelatinous in some bites. All of it tasty! They also give you a hunk of crispy pork skin on top of the tacos, too. Really enjoyed my tacos! The spicy mustard sauce wasn't even that spicy. Both versions were delicious though and you can't go wrong with either one. Glad I stopped by and got to sample these great tacos. I will be back in the future!

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

We found easy street parking in the neighborhood on 41st Street, and waited in line for about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the asada tacos. They pre-sauce your tacos, which was fine by me, but my boyfriend who can't handle as much spice would've preferred it on the side (so warning for anyone similar! they do put a little habanero on them, so just ask them for salsa on the side). I think I ran into a problem of reading too many raving reviews -- these tacos were good but I was expecting them to be mind blowing, so I was a little disappointed. I tasted the charcoal char, but kind of wished the taste was more pronounced, or at least the meat more seasoned. The hand made tortillas were definitely the coolest part, but I thought they were a little dry too. The ladies whipping those out are artists though. Actually, all the workers here have the assembly line down to the tea, and they definitely add a little flare for a show. I particularly liked how they had a lot of seating at this location, instead of just a couple stools lying around like most taco trucks. It felt more like outdoor patio seating than a normal taco stand. They could probably take more time to wipe down tables more often though. Overall would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for the tacos here.

I got the smaller bowl version b/c my $5 volunteering voucher can only afford so much, however the lady certainly filled up that bowl. Curry Tofu Bowl: a base of brown rice topped with a small kale salad, 2 pieces of fried plantains, curried tofu, dried cranberries, a sliver of avocado, pinto beans, and garbanzo beans/chickpeas; the meal was very substantial and filling but the curried tofu had no flavor whatsoever! The only flavoring came from the small amount of dressing on the kale salad and the sweetness from the plantains. As a curry person, I was disappointed, but nevertheless the dressing was good, sweet and citrusy. Plantains were good when crispy, but a bit weird with rice when softened. I wish for there to be a prevalent curry flavor in a curry dish, but enjoy the healthy bowl of food.
