    Carnitas tac

The hype is real. 4 reasons you should try this place: 1. The carnitas are some of the best in L.A 2. It's authentic Guanajuato carnitas, chile en vinagre (pickled jalapeño) included. 3. If you order a mixto taco, you get different parts of the pork - Deliciousness. 4. You love pork.

    Carnitas! Period.

I'm doing the most for this review. Carnitas El Momo, first thoughts... East LA Royalty a food truck and their house. 2411 Fairmount St, East Los Angeles, CA Cash or Zelle only. Park, flash the hazards, and GO. Carnitas El Momo is a religious experience wrapped in a tortilla. This ain't no Yelp spot you hit just to say you went. This is soul food straight off the streets of East LA, and if you're not pulling up for the carnitas, you're doing yourself a disservice. Straight up. If you're not a pork eater, do not pass go and do not collect $200! First time I slide through, I did it just like you're supposed to parked on the street, hit the hazards like I was about to commit a crime, and dipped out the ride with one thing on my mind that carnitas! No sides, no small talk. Customer service was very hospitable, made me feel like family. Here's a little insight, Mark Wiens himself pulled up to this humble setup. The man with the most expressive food face on YouTube couldn't help but fall in love. You know it's real when he does that wide eyed head shake followed up with a "Wow". His video gave it love fasho, but I swear it still doesn't do it justice. You gotta taste it to understand. I literally had the same reaction Mark Wiens had. That carnitas was so tender, it whispered to me in Spanish. "Tranquilo, carnal. You home now." And don't sleep on the red salsa they throw on the side. It taste like it was passed down from generations. You taste it, and you have to pause to savor it. $10 for 2 tacos may seem pricey, but you're paying for the love, soul and flat out care that's put into the tacos. Tacos are made homemade as well that tasted so damn fresh. Zelle or Cash only don't roll up flashing a card like this is some hipster food truck. This is East LA tradition. Old school hustle. You pull up, pay with paper or digital handshake, get blessed, and bounce. This the best carnitas I've ever had. Forget Michelin stars, El Momo is earning heavenly crowns out here in the barrio. Carnitas El Momo is sacred. IMO It's culture. It's crispy, tender, juicy AF, and it will ruin all other carnitas for you. I Know it did for me.

100000% recommend carnitas el momo; either location. the carnitas and the migajas tacos are amazing, the family and service is the the best, and it's just the kind of place that feels like home. like you're going to your tias house and she's making you food. 10/10 recommend and it's worth the drive if you're craving carnitas.

    Carnitas taco - perfection

I've had this place bookmarked for years and am glad it lived up to the hype. They know their craft and they do it exceptionally well. The best carnitas I've had - perfectly cooked and well flavored. We got the taco and the Torta and I prefer the taco as it's a better ratio and I was not a fan of the bread. Service is friendly and quick.

My friend told me about this legendary spot and we pulled up to check it out. You ever go to a spot and look around just to say "oh yeah I am at the right spot"? Well this gives you the vibes, great food, and warm welcome to check those boxes. We had trouble finding parking and the folks at Carnitas El Momo helped us find parking when they didn't have to. We had their famous carnitas tacos and they don't short change you on the meat. It's simple to the point: meat, onions/cilantro, limes, and sauce. That's all you need, their preparation and craft does the rest of the work. Melt in your mouth pork. I've been up and down California, this by far the best carnitas I've had. Go and get this experience

Note that this place is in the middle of a neighborhood so parking is gonna be difficult unless you get there early. Also note that it's cash or Zelle only. Tacos are $5 each and you choose from pork shoulder, pork sinks, or pork belly. What I really like is that they put a ton of meat in your street taco; moreso than other places. What I didn't like was the taste; it was quite dry and a chore to eat through. For $15, I didn't even finish my meal but I appreciate the effort that was put in.

    Cueritos Mulita

Omg this place was sooo good. Like wtf, I didn't expect it the Cuerito Mulita to be this delicious. The sign is attractive, it made me curious and cruise inside to check it out. I was kind of hoping to get like a deli style bag of Chicarrones because that's the imperson I got; a Deli and Restaurant. But it's ok! The food is crazy good. This place knows how to cook! I do wish they stayed open longer. Closing at 5pm right when most people get off work is... :/ disheartening. But still I highly recommend you guys to get off work an hour early to try this place. And the price ain't bad either; standard market average. I'm not complaining; Life in LA is crazy expensive. To the owner and employees: Good luck on getting your beer and wine license soon! Buche and Beer is the best

Plain carnitas taco before toppings. Large tacos, $5.00 each.
    Tim S.

Stopped here before I got on the freeway. I ordered one carnitas taco. It was $5.00. Taco was fat and stuffed inside 2 regular sized corn tortillas. It comes plain, but they give you a bag of salsa/cliantro/onion etc. I topped my taco with my preferred toppings and went to town. The pork itself was a little bit dry, but it tasted delicious. I scarfed down my taco and was on my way. Glad I stopped by to check it out. Would definitely return.

I first heard about Carnitas El Momo from watching the episode of Street Food Icons called The Taco Master of East LA. I've longed for a chance to eat at Carnitas El Momo for a long time and I finally had an opportunity to try it. The tacos here are not something I normally wouldn't order as the meat comes from the shoulder, belly and skin. You can get Carne (Shoulder), Buche (Belly) and Cuero (Skin). They offer Tacos, Mulitas, Quesadillas, Tortas and Queso Tacos. You can pay via Cash or Zelle. These are some the best Tacos in LA. There's a lot of competition for tacos in Tacos in LA, but in my humble opinion this place serves up some really good tacos. The meat is so flavorful and juicy. They give you lot of meat in each taco. They are generous portions. You need that especially with rising food costs. Respect! Tacos cost $4 each. I order 2 of each as I wanted to bring home some for my family to try. My wife is not a big fan of tacos, but she really liked the tacos from Carnitas El Momo. It's really inspiring to see a family business continued by the children. I love the story. All walks of life come here for the Tacos. When you make a good product, people will come. Carnitas El Momo makes really some of the best tacos out there.

Did a self guided taco tour for my last full day in California. It definitely did not disappoint since I am from the East coast where the reputation of taco food trucks is far inferior. The total time for my self guided taco tour was 2.5 hours (started at 12PM on a Tuesday and ended at 2:30. There was a minimal wait due to the time so the total tour may vary depending on the day.) Feel free to check out my profile for other taco truck recommendations! The tacos are on the bigger end so definitely don't over order if you plan on visiting other food trucks or have a full day ahead of you. No parking here but everyone was double parked on the street. Pork Mix Taco ***FAVORITE****: pork belly, pork shoulder and pork skin): perfect combination of meatiness, gelatinous and fattiness. Even better with a pickled jalapeño to chase it down Pork Skin Tacos: very gelatinous. Would not recommend to eaters who rely heavily on texture Pork Belly Tacos: very flavorful. Not too fatty as it was rendered out but definitely not too fulfilling by itself

I saw Carnitas El Momo on Netflix's Street Food and with an upcoming trip to SoCal, I knew I had to come check it out! It's all street parking but found a spot about half a block down across the street. I know this place is a frequent of many construction workers in the area, I see all their trucks lined up and double parked behind the food truck. Upon arriving, you can check out the menu on the white boards leaning against the truck on the floor. We opted for the Carne (shoulder) tacos. They are $4 each so I ordered 4 and I didn't realized how much meat they pack into it otherwise 2 would've been sufficient for my hubby and I. Tons of meat, I tell ya! The meat itself didn't have too much flavor but you can dress it up. Condiments are provided including hot sauce, onions and limes. It instantly becomes bomb. I love that the meat is not fatty, soft and falls apart. Ordering was quick and easy and they call out your number for pick up. Must try in you're in the LA area!

I've been hearing about this place for quite some time and with it being so close, it just had to be done. I went on a weekday around 1 p.m. because I figured parking would be easier on a weekday. Yeah, no. There was no parking but after asking someone at the stand, I was told just to double park it. I guess that's how it's done, so I followed suit. For those who don't know, this joint is run out of a person's home. It's been around for quite some time so don't worry re it being run out of someone's house. I'm still standing to write this, right? So as stated above, this was my first visit. I ordered three carnitas tacos. Another Yelper posted that he was a fat mofo and he could only clear two tacos. I'm not a fat mofo but I eat like one so I figured I would get three so I could have one leftover for tomorrow. I was only able to clear one lol. It is true, they are generous with the meats, which is why each taco is $4. Now, even though I ordered carnitas, I was given mixto tacos, which is the most popular option. I had been given a sample while waiting for my order and it was good even though I'm not a fan of cuero due to the texture. No biggie re my order, I just picked out the bigger pieces of cuero and gave it to the stray cats that visit me - sharing Momos is caring. If you look at the menu, there's no "carnitas" taco. So, the girl who took my order gave me what was most popular. I just went with it, it was all delish. Next time I know to ask to have the cuero omitted. If you've seen any videos regarding this joint and their tacos, you know that the tacos are meant to be eaten with pickled jalapeños. You are given salsa and cilantro and onions just in case you want to go that route. I had my one taco just as I was supposed to and that's all it needed. Sorry, I can't speak for how the sauce I was given tastes as it was perfect just with the jalapeño. My only complaint is that I needed more than one jalapeño for three tacos. My tastebuds are happy to have joined all others that have ever experienced this place and I will definitely be back. Ya know it, a very yummy in my tummy rating. Note that these tacos are messy af so you have been forewarned if you're going to eat in the car (there's no real place to have them there). Also, they close every day at 4:30 p.m. so plan accordingly to get your grub on. Lastly, bring cash.

Are they still posted on the fairfield address? I see a Compton location pop up on my maps?

I know for sure the one on Fairmount is the primary location ! But on the others might be only pop ups

I drove by the address and nothing, do they have another location?

Fairmount St is their usual location, but sometimes they may be on Soto St, which is right next to Fairmount. Either way, they are always in this area.

What time they close today (Sunday)?

You have to follow them on instagram. They post when they are sold out. Usually between 3-5pm.

Are these guys still in business? I've dropped by 3 times this week and nada.

Yes, they're still in business. They post their schedule on Instagram. On weekends they tend to close early (2 pm) and you have to walk up the alley to get to their back patio.

This place claims to be opened all day but I stopped by on Saturday around 4 and they were closed so what are really their business hours? The truck was there but it was a dead zone. Please advise.

They often sell out and close early. You always need to check their instagram posts to verify they are there that day.

Do they close when they are out of carnitas?

They usually sell out! So I highly recommend to come in early.

Hey Carnitas ElMomo's you guys still park right there on Soto at Marango?

They park in front of their home. It's on the corner of Soto and Fairmount.

    Do they have al pastor?

No I wish but my god there food is the bomb

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

I also tried the mulita with al pastor meat and that was also soso good. Cheesy, meaty, and indulgent. The additional topping section had good variety with pickled onions, cucumbers, etc. and everything seemed pretty fresh. Unfortunately, they were pretty much out of the roasted pepper and grilled onions at the time I went. To drink, I had the horchata and that was also very delicious. It was huge, sweet, and creamy. Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

We found easy street parking in the neighborhood on 41st Street, and waited in line for about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the asada tacos. They pre-sauce your tacos, which was fine by me, but my boyfriend who can't handle as much spice would've preferred it on the side (so warning for anyone similar! they do put a little habanero on them, so just ask them for salsa on the side). I think I ran into a problem of reading too many raving reviews -- these tacos were good but I was expecting them to be mind blowing, so I was a little disappointed. I tasted the charcoal char, but kind of wished the taste was more pronounced, or at least the meat more seasoned. The hand made tortillas were definitely the coolest part, but I thought they were a little dry too. The ladies whipping those out are artists though. Actually, all the workers here have the assembly line down to the tea, and they definitely add a little flare for a show. I particularly liked how they had a lot of seating at this location, instead of just a couple stools lying around like most taco trucks. It felt more like outdoor patio seating than a normal taco stand. They could probably take more time to wipe down tables more often though. Overall would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for the tacos here.

AMAZING. So efficient, very clean, love being able to see them prep food at the bar area…read more Pulpo a la brasas - low key a must, octopus is so tender. Didn't care much for the rice/beans but not bad. Comes with blue corn tortillas, but honestly the octopus and almond sauce (think b*tchin' sauce) were delicious. Great cherry tomato pico de gallo. Scallop aguachile - wowwww the scallops were so fresh, literally bursting is my mouth. They were sweet, tender, and perfectly paired with the tangy lime sauce. Taco de pulpo - ok so this is pretty much an assembled pulpo à la brasas, BUT I will say the full meal was more tender because it was an entire grilled piece of grilled vs one tentacle. If with a group, def recommend getting the entree to split vs individual tacos. Smoked kanoachi tostado - delicioussssss the smoked kanoachi (amberjack) was the perfect glue for the ceviche. Another banger. I was at capacity at this point, but the only change I'd make is swapping the taco de pulpo for the ahi tostado. So really, Holbox did everything right, and was so good it's gaslighting me into how I could have ordered more strategically. I arrived around 3:45pm on a Sunday, and the line wrapped around the corner. Bar seats are FCFS, so use that information wisely...and you may get seated immediately :P

There is a private lot but fills up, and there's also adjacent street parking. I love sitting at the bar and seeing the plate being prepared. Also love the open freezers so you can see the fresh seafood hanging. Another standout was the homemade hot sauces! Each had a distinct flavor from sweet, smokey, and hot so it was really fun to try. The ceviches and the raw cold dishes were my favorite, especially the scallop aguachile! SO GOOD. Would order that 100 times.

I was looking for a taco spot with good reviews in the area and stumbled upon this gem of a taco…read morestand in the side of the road. These were truly the epitome of street tacos and absolutely nothing about the vibe, the service, and the FOOD, disappointed. Immediately upon arrival, I noticed the long line of people and said to myself, either this place is really good or really slow. It took me longer to decide what I wanted to try than what it took for the line to move and for it to be my turn to order. So yea, these folks are FAST and very courteous as well. They have real Al Pastor on the trompo (the spit) so of course I ordered pastor tacos and a pastor mulita. I also ordered a few SUADERO tacos which you don't find just anywhere. I am still raving about the amount of meat and flavor of the food here, it's insanely delicious. Once you get your food you make your way down to the end of the taco stand where you are met with an amazing array of fresh taco fixings and salsas. The pink creamy-habanero was the best and the green/red salsas followed right behind. I can't wait to go back to this place. It's mind blowing how a stand on the side of the road puts out better quality food than a brick/mortar taco shop..but these guys know exactly what they are doing and it was a pleasure to try their food. 20 out of 10 for this place.

I do like how they grill their meat though and they use the tortillas to scoop up the meat on the grill. Thought the al pastor was a bit salty and the cheese did not add much flavor to it, but that's probably a good thing considering the saltiness of the meat. Also, make sure you ask them for pineapples since they did not include it until we asked. They do have them sliced up in a container by the meats. Ambience is very casual and it's a stand while eating type of situation. Service was quick.

Everything came out to about $26 which is super reasonable! Service on a later end of the night was great! Super friendly and quick service. No indoor dining was available since they were closing in 15 mins. Food was ready in less than 10 mins. Salsa is free which both were delicious and had great flavor. Overall the food was delicious! It hit the spot. Filled with meat and the tortillas were a hit on their own. I would definitely go back again and try the other items that they had to offer.

Driving by I always see a line and read an article recently that Sonoratown is officially…read morerecognized in the California Michelin Guide - makes sense! I like that they were open late to satisfy a late night taco craving. Even though there is typically a line they are quite efficient with orders and even have a parking lot/outdoor dining space in addition to their indoor space so it doesn't feel cramped. It was my first visit so I had to get a mix of their tacos and burritos with the various meats they serve. It was a nice fact to know their tortillas have some lard also so it adds a nice flavor as well. + Burrito 2.0 (asada) + Chivichanga (chicken and beef) + Tacos (chorizo, tripe, cabeza, asada) I enjoyed the burrito with asada and thought it was good portion size for the cost. The guac, cheese, and beans pair well with the meat and has a nice grill on the tortilla. The tacos were a solid size as well but I was surprised to find the tripe as my favorite because they fry it and it adds a nice crunch/texture change. The cabeza was a close second with the stewed flavors. The chivichangas were also tasty but not the traditional chimichanga I was anticipating. It's definitely on the softer side as everything mixes together and there's not much of a texture change. Worth trying if you are curious though. I ordered to go so I didn't see if they have a salsa bar but I did have to pay $.10 per to go container which would be nice if they were free. However, I liked mixing their red and green salsa with each bite. I am curious to try their avocado salsa next time. Overall, I thought the portion sizes were good for the prices and I felt full afterwards.
