We bring our dog here due to her being allergic to literally (yes literally, Sheldon) EVERYTHING (we have the paperwork to prove it). We see Dr. Reising and the front desk folks are also always on hand to assist. I'd say everyone there is knowledgeable about the herbs and practices they use. We've done acupuncture with Dr. Reising. She is very gentle and accomodating of both the human and the pet in the mix. She has a good bedside manner. We love the setup of the exam rooms, with the futons on the floor (it's just a little cold and/or hot sometimes, depending the season). And we love the extra touch of seeing the owner's art on the walls or crafts items they have brought in for sale (we love our Oaxacan donkey!). It will take some time to find the right formula for your pet but if anyone can do it, they can. read more

Dr Ruers is very knowledgeable however I found her communication style extremely rude. I didn't feel heard nor were my pups detailed notes reviewed. The office rarely if ever picks up the phone however if you walk in they are just sitting chatting. Email responses are delayed due to docs odd schedule and if you book an appt they will not hesitate to cancel it when doc decides to take vacation. One thing to note is the email Responses can come from the people that work reception not the doctor. Doc is quick to RX herbs for everything that are not at a sustainable cost. Each visit was over $1700. 3 dogs. The refills were about $500/mth. All of this was something I was willing to do but the last straw was when they mailed my refills and the weight of the herbs was shorted. How did I know? Because we ran out a month early. The staff here is amazing as is Dr. Reising. My aging chihuahua saw her a few times for acupuncture and homeopathic medicine. She was so kind and caring with our guy. Her bedside manner is remarkable and she's experienced and knowledgeable about what we were up against. I wish we could continue to see her, but my dog's needs are veering sadly toward end of life care. Dr. Reising was able to refer us to an internist that she liked. It was great to have some suggestions about where to take our dog when the time was right for further diagnostic testing. Parking is easy. The waiting area is light-filled, beautiful and cozy with well-tended greenery. They take Care Credit. The treatment rooms are simple and easy to maneuver. The first time we were we left the lights of our car on and our battery died. They even helped us jump our car! I wouldn't hesitate to return if our pup needed care. Absolute quackery. I took one of my kitties here for a number of appointments when she was depressed. The vet correctly diagnosed that she was likely just overweight, but nonetheless recommended GABApentin and "aqua puncture" treatments. Hundreds of dollars of prescriptions and needling treatments later, my girl was doing a little better, but then the vet started recommending Reiki, with "remote services" available. In other words someone takes my money and literally waves their hands around sending good vibes from the comfort of their own home. (Have you ever seen a Reiki certificate? Credible documents are not rendered in Comic Sans.) For chin acne caused by insufficient grooming after meals, she sold me wipes with oregano oil infused. OREGANO OIL IS EXTREMELY TOXIC TO CATS and can cause skin burns topically and permanent liver damage if ingested. Why on earth would this be a given as a treatment for already-inflamed skin...or anything else?? Suffice to say we stopped going here. But I'm happy to report after introducing portion control for her meals for several years now, she is down three pounds and happier and healthier than ever. The environment is warm and friendly, and my kitty was never scared during her visits. But the advice I received and snake oil I was sold was absolutely unforgivable. read more

I love Dr. Rewers and her office staff so much. My sweet four year old chocolate lab has chronic kidney failure and Dr Rewers and her staff are doing everything they can to help me. I comic in to her office filled with anxiety and I leave her office feeling comforted and encouraged. My Sawyer girl loves all of the staff as well. I'm so thankful that I found Dr. Rewers. I took my beloved late kitty to these folks last winter to treat paralysis. They were soooooooooo sooo kind and did absolutely everything they could to help my cat recover. Dr. Regis was absolutely brilliant. You could tell she absolutely loved her job, her patients and their pet pet parents. She listened carefully and was super professional. Best of all unlike many places who were not letting pet parents be with their pets, they let me be there for every moment. It's those small things that really count. It was worth all the money, miles and effort I put out to get here. I would definitely take my pets there again if I ever had a problem. I highly recommend them!! Dr. Rewers and the staff at Ancient Arts are amazing! Their new building on Greenwood Ave is so beautiful. Our dog and cat have been seeing Dr. Rewers for at least 3 or so years now and it's been great. They go in for their wellness checks and both receive acupuncture and herbs. The staff is very friendly and quick to respond to my emails and calls if I have a quick question or trying to book an appointment. The energy in the office is so peaceful that even my cat Piper enjoys his time when he is there. Dr. Rewers provides exceptional care to our animals, providing a holistic approach that is very hard to find at most veterinary clinics in the area. I just had the most terrific experience with this vet. My cat, who is VERY skittish, and difficult to handle was suffering from a "likely" liver infection, which antibiotics were not helping. My regular vet recommended getting a $600 ultrasound, and then maybe they would tell me he had cancer or else validate what the blood work said. My gut told me that he didn't have cancer or anything really serious like that, so I decided to pursue some alternative medicine. I called the clinic to find out about costs and learned that the initial visit would be around $220 - less than half the cost of JUST the ultrasound. I figured it was worth trying at least - I've had good results with acupuncture, so why not my cat, right? First, I liked that it was easy to park. I was coming in rush hour traffic from West Seattle, so while I love Fremont, hunting for parking in that mess with a sick cat would have just been too much. Second, the vet agreed to take my appointment at 6pm, so I could get him in before the weekend - as it was my only time that would work all week. The space was darling - not clinical, but very clean, which I consider perfect. The vet was very warm and welcoming - I was instantly at ease with her working on my animal. Phoenix, my kitty, sat relatively calmly for and entire 1/2 hour with needles in him. We talked at length - she gave me an entire list of things I could treat him with - herbs and other supplements to help aid in his healing and improve his appetite, hydration, etc. I felt like I learned more about how to care for my cat than I'd even learned about how to care for myself. Now he has been moving around more and actually eating some. He even napped in the car on the way home! Unheard of!!!! I feel like I got the most attentive care for my pet that I've ever gotten before. It was also nice to see what the vet was actually DOING and participate in his care, versus everything being all secretive and behind closed ...doors. I am a breeder of Standard Poodles, have spent years educating myself to health issues, pedigrees,all types of traditional and alternative medicine for dogs. Dr Rewers is the first professional that not only knows alternative medicine but was very well versed in giving advice in a life or death situation with a puppy that was nearly killed by poor choice of a mainstream vet. She thinks of the pet, stress of coming into a vet, spent a complete hour with us. She even has an alternative to the cold metal table which is especially nice when your pet is older, very ill or traumatized by the metal table. The office is clean, comfortable and the staff is compassionate and professional. I now put Dr Rewers in my puppy contract as main vet to be used in the Seattle area. I have looke a long time for a vet like this!! Oh and she saved my pups life!!! read more

This is a difficult review to write. My dog and I have been seeing Dr Rewers over the course of the past year to supplement my dog's care from her Western vet. Dr Rewers prescribed Chinese herbs that have been very helpful, however two other very expensive prescriptions had no positive outcome, and one was actually detrimental. When I brought this up to Dr Rewers for discussion, she implied that I was lying to her and that I wasn't on top of my dog's care or treatment. If you knew the condition of my rescue dog when I got her, and the time / attention / love / specialists / treatments / resources I've focused on bringing her back to health and caring for her, you would find this laughable. And offensive. There is a vibe in this practice that's hard to put a finger on, but I think it's best described as a lack of human customer focus / lack of ability to navigate the people interactions with grace and respect. Pets come in with their people so both have to feel treated well. Separately, if you do go for an appointment, be aware that the walls in the exam rooms do not go up to the ceiling, so no conversations are private (including the whispering Dr Rewers and her assistant did about me in the hallway after they left the exam room). I also heard the complete pet health history given by two other clients and heard one of the dogs yelping during a treatment. It was upsetting to listen to and the noises from outside our exam room sent my dog crawling and shaking onto my lap for comfort. Finally, my dog regularly sees her Western vet and another specialist (long standing relationships with both); our intent in seeing Dr Rewers was to supplement that care with alternative treatments. However, there is no "coordination of care" so to speak, so the result is that you will end up paying for wellness exams with Dr Rewers too even if you've just seen another vet for a wellness exam. I'm not commenting here on whether this is right or wrong, but it is worth being aware of upfront. read more

I went there a few times and I thought they were great, and Dr. Rewers really seemed to care, but that's more than I can say for the office manager and whoever else answers their phone. Over two visits I spent nearly $1000. They put my cat on a medicine that had side affects, and gave a warning that the VET should be notified if the animal looses appetite. This week, she was scheduled for a visit, but I couldn't find her. Mind you, Dr. Rewers was not in the office this week. I called in to say I was going to be a bit late and was met with an angry voice on the phone informing me I would be considered a no show and charges $50 bc they couldn't reschedule. That stinks but what could I do? So I tried paying online, didn't work. I called and left a message about it and got an email from the vet telling me I needed to pay it, I asked how and she said I would be contacted. I wasnt. I emailed her back explaining that my cat hasn't been eating and asked what I should do. Still no reply. Emailed again the next day, and she said I would need to pay the $50 before she could help. Ok I get it but $50? Really? I've paid them so much and they know I've been trying to get ahold of them to pay. She won't answer a question that unanswered could put my cats life in danger?!?! $50 was more important to them than helping us or my cats well-being. I called, no one answered. I left a message. Again I called, no one called back yet. Day 2 of her not eating. Finally the angry front desk person calls and cut me off when I said "hello" and said let's get that payment first. So I gave it to her then said ok can we address my cats well being. She said, you can go to the specialists for hyperthyroidism and hung up on me! I am so disappointed in their lack of compassion for their patients. I thought the rushed visits were because they were busy, but now I'm wondering if they just care more about the money than the clients and only see us as that. They knew I was trying to pay. Yes I was getting anxious and a little short bc my cats life was in danger and the people who put her in that position and should care about her well being are more concerned with $50 no show fee that was charged bc I called saying I was going to be late!!!! I am so disappointed and I cannot believe they treat people or their clients this way. I am so disgusted and disappointed. read more

Dr. Rewers made a huge difference in my cat's health in just one visit. He had been limping for 2 years.. and multiple xrays, a CT scan, and physical exams by various vets hadn't found the reason why. Options left were exploratory surgery, or acupuncture.. so I opted to try acupuncture. The first difference is the exam rooms. Darla has replaced tall, metal exam tables with floor pillows and towels. She sat on the floor and just talked for 20 minutes, letting my cat calm down from the car ride and waiting until he was willing to sit still while she examined him. That extra time and care for his comfort made all the difference. Because he was calm, and because she knows her stuff.. she was able to tell from just the physical exam that he was favoring his shoulder - not his paw or elbow, which is what the previous vets had suggested. Everyone had done these physical exams, but my cat is very good at hiding symptoms when he is scared... but Darla's knowledge of musculature made it unnecessary. She went ahead and put the needles in, cat stayed calm, and the visit ended very smoothly. I didn't notice any immediate results other than a surprisingly calm cat in the car on the way home, but acupuncture usually takes more than one visit. What did happen though, was that due to her advice, I had xrays taken of my cat's shoulder and two very large bone chips were found in there. Those have been removed, and now my cat will definitely be getting acupuncture for the remaining arthritis. I'm a convert. Dr. Darla Rewers is fantastic. read more

We started taking our pup here for acupuncture after a back injury and have been thrilled with the results. He's got a spring in his step he hasn't had in over a year, takes stairs like a champ, and it no longer feels like he has tennis balls over his hips. So why 3 stars? Time management. They are perpetually 20-30 minutes behind schedule. Every. Single. Time. This is a huge pet peeve of mine and feels really disrespectful to their clients, especially when you can hear them having a leisurely conversation at the front desk while you wait and wait and wait. It's tough to get a dog to wait patiently that long and then sit another 20 - 30 minutes with needles in, making it a disservice to him as well. read more

The Ancient Art Veterinary Medicine staff and physicians are exceptional! I can not thank Dr. Regis and Rewers enough for the exquisite care they gave to our 15.5 year old terrier, Lucie. They help extend Lucie's life with acupuncture, homeopathy and herbs beyond our expectations. Needless to say, that they were the clinicians to diagnose Lucie with an extremely enlarged gall-bladder and nearly failing liver; thank to their prompt referral we were able to have Lucie undergo surgery within the next hours before her gall-bladder duct will burst. I would like to thank the staff: James, Malia and everyone else we have been taken care by at this holistic approaches-clinic. Acupuncture sessions gave Lucie, along with the supplements more vitality at a time the allopathic approaches had not much more to offer. I finally brought my 12 year old Shih Tzu after recommended by my acupuncturist and I wish I had brought in Mac sooner. Darla was calming to both me and my dog. She didn't mind that I brought my other shih tzu, Mabel and she interacted with her as well. I love that she got on the floor with my Mac and examined him there while my Mabel played around her. The rooms are nothing like the typical vet office. There's a big overstuffed pillow for my dog where she did the acupuncture and I just sat next to him and she on the other side of him. I imagined that I had to restrain my dog completely, but not at all. I had to just hold the collar and she the rest. He calmed after several minutes and for awhile I didn't have to hold his collar. Darla told me everything that she was doing and the explanations were not over my head, but very understandable. I was so focused on Western medicine for my dog, but I love the combination of both Eastern and Western medicine and Darla understood what I wanted for my Mac. read more

This business is a rip-off. Do no choose them if you work with another vet and are only interested in their acupuncture as I was. I chose this business because of location - and did not know Ancient Arts charges separately for all services. Their pricing is not published on their website. Such lack of transparency is a red flag that I missed. Of course I expected a first-time exam to introduce my pet and prep for acupuncture. This exam simply covered a few basics like listening to heartbeat and checking teeth, and there was a brief conversation that reviewed the info I'd already provided to them on the lengthy intake forms. I was shocked to be charged $149 for this 15 minute "complete" exam PLUS another $95 for acupuncture services. In total I paid $270 for my dog's 45 minute visit, including a ziplock bag of herbs with no identifying labels. All pretty sketchy. read more

My dog loves the time he spends with Dr. Darla Rewers at Ancient Arts, even though he has needles stuck in him. Through a whole series of ups and downs, the barely mobile pug can now walk and wag his tail again, and Dr. Rewers was one of the vets that made that possible through acupuncture. My boyfriend and I brought our 18 week old puppy in yesterday after she developed some skin issues from most likely vaccine reactions and we wanted to try some alternative therapies. Dr. Rewers was just fantastic. She spent a good hour with us and our puppy didn't seem to notice once that there were needles poking out of her. She was very thorough and noticed stuff about our dog that even we hadn't. Her energy was very welcoming. The office was clean and really had character, sporting artwork done by Dr. Rewers herself. I have to admit, I initially was skeptical (despite the fact I've had holistic treatments/preventative measures done on myself). That completely went away as soon as Dr Rewes entered the room. She is as professional as she is intuitive, & my very sensitive, older cat instantly picked up on her calming & healing energy. I mean, I did too! She worked quickly & expertly to get the needles in my ailing babe, & the change I saw was fairly quick. (My cat has kidney disease, & is just getting over a very awful UTI, not to mention separation anxiety from missing the people who gave her to me not that long ago). I would highly recommend Dr. Darla Rewers. She is amazing and her staff is great as well. I don't live nearby so I used her services in conjunction with the services of my traditional vet closer to home. I would have used her exclusively if I lived closer. She was recommended to me by a co-worker who used her acupuncture services for one of her dogs that does agility. I sought her help with my dog who had Cushings and dementia and my cat who has heart disease. It has been a wonderful experience and she has helped us so much. read more

I've been meaning to write up a review on this place for nearly two years. I'm going to try to keep this short and concise. The clinic is clean, artsy and warm. Staff is nice (for the most part - we'll get to that in a minute) and Dr. Rewers was nice and helpful to some extent. HOWEVER, exams, lab work, herbs, supplements, etc. are extremely expensive at this clinic and I had one staff member act extremely rude and disrespectful towards me and my mom - while on the phone, a staff member (possibly the receptionist at the time, who I do not know the name of, its been almost two years since I've been there), had HUNG UP THE PHONE on my mother when she was asking a question regarding what type of blood work was to be done and at what clinic would they recommend since they did not have the ability to perform it in-house. Literally hung up the phone. Who does that? In addition, they charge $139 for an exam and herbs/supplements that were prescribed by the doctor were only refilled for a certain amount of time. To continue the prescriptions, you would have to go back and get charged another $139 exam to maintain the "doctor-to-patient" relationship... well if they were so concerned about that, they wouldn't hang up the phone and refuse to acknowledge or answer my questions. Overall, given my experience at the clinic, and the high standard that I hold veterinary clinics to (or any medical facility), it is a 1/5 for me. Unnecessary rude behavior, extremely expensive and many services are not performed in-house which would require you to spend more money on gas to get to some clinic that does offer in-house services. By the way, Dr. Rewers was 15-20 minutes late to my scheduled appointment, which only allowed for about 20-30 minutes of time spent in the exam room and discussing my dog's health concerns and as soon as the time was up, she rushed us out of the room and proceeded to finish everything up in a very rushed manner. I didn't like that at all and felt that she cared more about her time and our money than the health of my dog. If anyone is looking for a holistic vet who also is aware of and practices conventional methods for the more advanced illnesses that cannot be only managed on herbs and supplements, but medication IN ADDITION to the herbs/supplements, please look up Evergreen Holistic Vet in Monroe, WA. They are my (current) primary vet clinic. Literally THE BEST group of kind, caring and knowledgable people I have ever met. It is a single-vet owned clinic with a small staff who care deeply for you and your pet's health at a more affordable cost and they don't hang up the phone on you. :) read more

Today is April 7, 2014. I called for an appt. The first NEW appt they had was on August 1st. My dog is not eating, loosing weight. At this rate, if I took that appt she would be dead by that date. We've already seen her regular vet, who after 3 visits, still doesn't know what is wrong with her. I thought I might try a holistic vet. Didn't matter about her not eating. August 1st was the first appt they had. Just on this interaction, I wouldn't recommend this vet. She might be a good vet...if you can get an appointment. read more

I will come back to this review but suffice it to say that I made two appointments because I thought that I would need two appointments for my 14 1/2 year-old Sansky. It turned out that I really only needed one appointment. I explained that it was not fair to be charge for the second appointment because the doctor was 20 minutes late to the first appointment I actually was told that the reason why they believe it was fair that I was charged for the second appointment was because I was looking at herbal supplements and took her out for a walk. I was not doing that Churing appointment time the doctor told me that he needed to take care of another patient. She has helped our cat tremendously when traditional veterinary care was not working. Just when we thought we were loosing our cat, Dr. Darla Rewers made all the difference in the world, it's like we have a brand-new cat now. Our quintessential "scardy-cat" who is normally terrified at the vet doesn't even mind having Darla put acupuncture needles in him, and even took a nap while he was stuck full of needles! She has a very calming way with animals. We would highly recommend Dr. Rewers. And her Fremont clinic even has free parking which is an added bonus. read more

This was our first experience with a holistic veterinarian so we were not sure what to expect. The exam room had a mattress on the floor covered with a sheet which made our dog, Fremont very comfortable. Usually he is climbing up my neck when I sit him on a stainless steel exam table. Dr. Darla Rewers has such positive energy and was so gentle with Fremont that he was running around in circles in front of her - I have never seen him do that with anyone before. He had a terrible looking skin condition with lesions all over his belly. We had taken him to our regular vet without good results. It has been one and half weeks since Fremont was treated by Dr. Rewers and his skin condition is clearing up already! The cost of her services was very reasonable and we are so pleased with the results. She is totally AWESOME. We highly recommend her. The place of business is easy to find and has free parking in the back. What more could you ask? read more
