Ancient City Brewing Taproom had recently opened when I stopped in for a beer. The owner was our bartender and was very friendly and excited about his new business. The decor was very hipster and the rest rooms were clean. There were eight beers being offered on tap which I know from what the owner said that there should be more beer available now. The bar was pretty large with comfy seats and table seating also available. I honestly do not remember which beer I tried however, I always ask for a shandy or the lightest beer. I'm sold - no need to convince me to return since I've recently paid as much as $7.50 for Stella & lemme tell you, the Coconut Porter was hella better tasting! I thought the coconut essence would be too strong, but it was the perfect ratio including a nice sweet note (loved it)! They have about 10 taps with plenty of seating at the bar, a couple high top tables and a couple tables near the window, so you get the lowdown on what's happening outside. We ended up ordering Chicken Poutine, French Fries & a couple Chicken Grilled Sandwiches from Grilled Cheese Gallery where they delivered the food to the brewery within 15 min. - love this partnership of supporting each other! read more

Took a brewery and history tour and this was the second stop! The OCD was excellent! Beer with the notes of a dreamcicle popsicle.

Movin' downtown seems like a great move so far. The place is really nicely decorated, small, but in a comfortable way. Here on the Monday before the 4th, and the place was doing a brisk business. Know that the list of taps is limited, all ACB beers, but they brought over some of the best. If we could get a table here on the stage (or at the other window) for people watching, the trip would be complete. We still frequent the brewhouse, especially for Trivia Thursdays, but when I'm downtown, this is a great spot to hang out. Oh and the wife noted that she didn't need a sweater on this 95 degree Florida summer day, unlike the usual experience at the original brewhouse. read more

We stopped here on our last visit to St Augustine. The tasting roomd irectly across from the main square downtown by the Bridge of Lions. The tasting room had a long bar and assorted tables and a few sofas to lounge on. There were 10 taps plus a selection of wines. Happy Hour from 3pm-7pm offers 20% off of beer and wine. Ancient City Brewery is the oldest brewery in Saint Augustine, and earns their keep in town with great rotating flavors! The taphouse in old town is perfectly located, and though it's not the main brewhouse, it's worth it. We arrived for happy hour and the beers were discounted! Beers we drank (in photo) In order from left to right (descriptions from their website) - Galleon's Golden Ale: A combo of light and pale malts result in a slightly sweet flavor that finishes medium dry, crisp, and refreshing - Belgium Christmas Abbey: light beer, gets the red color from the beet sugar (yum!) - Castillo Coconut Porter (our winner for the night!!! ): Rich and dark, just as it looks, with a smooth and velvety texture. What a nice brewery. Nice options and very professional knowledgeable bartender. She was nice enough to let us try several beers. I ended up getting the coconut Porter. Very delicious finish. There was only one person there, but she crushed it and all with a smile. They also have Caribe cider that was great and wine (non of us drank any wine). I've had beer from this awesome place before when they came to Jax for a Craft Beer festival. So as I was wobbling down the street from the Martini Bar we literally walked into it, with 35 mins until closing. I ordered a Kentucky Waterfall at a wonderful 7.2% and it was smooth and beautiful . The bar maid was nice and quick and the scenery was typical for a craft brewery.... hip and cool. Happy I made it to a Brewery that I sampled from a Beer festival! read more

Really enjoyed the taproom, just relaxing with a local brew and watching it rain. There were quite a few patrons although most area establishments have been limiting the capacity. It was enjoying to just sit back and taste their different brews. They have another location off of 16 near the interstate, which is where the brewing takes place. You can also enjoy sic packs at the local Publix. Great spot! read more

Walked in to grab a drink and sit away from the rain, immediately upon walking in my friend and I looked at eachother because the smell of sewage was so strong. We turned around and walked out, and saw two people walk in. They also came out within a minute from the smell. Would not recommend until they get their sewage fixed or clean inside read more

I'm giving Ancient City Brewing 3 stars because of the Castillo Coconut Porter. I love dark beer and this one was really nice. Everything else about this place was lame. The interior is dark, dank, and dreary. If they are going for ancient city dungeon, then they nailed it. I walked into the place with glares from the bar tender and the few people at the bar. Got the one beer from a bar tender that was overly board to be there and grabbed a seat by the window to have some sense of life. They need a serious interior design overhaul and this place could be very cool. Come on owners, you have a great name and location, now act like you care. What a great addition to the plaza her in St. Aug! I really love coming here for a beer after work. The staff are super nice and helpful and figuring out what beer on tap would be the best choice. Or just get a flight and try four different ones. Like any bar, it goes in waves of how busy it can get. I work part-time doing pub crawl tours and always make this my second stop; busy or not. There is always fast service. sometimes its hard to hear whos beer is whos but we are figure it out in the end. My personal favorite is the Augustine orange Amber and the Galleon's golden ale. Very nice taproom located right in historic downtown St. Augustine. The service was great too. A flight was under $7 with tax. The beer was just a bit disappointing. Its not bad, it was just OK. The honey IPA was too sweet in my opinion, the imperial IPA has centennial and mosaic hops - but I didn't get any citrus in the taste. Will be back to try their seasonal offerings. Stopped in here because one of the guys we were with is into craft beer and thought this would be a cool place to check out. This bar has a chill vibe and there was something to do near the front, table tennis I believe? Anyways, they had about 10 beers on tap and it was labeled with ABV, IBU and the cost which I think most places should do. I tried the coconut beer and it tasted more like coffee. The bartender was attentive and nice. Would I go out of my way to come back? Probably not but if I was local this would be a decent hang out spot. read more

Stopped into Ancient City Brewing on my last trip to St Augustine during a weekday. Me and my BH decided to have the Galleon's Golden Ale and French Brown Ale. Both were light and refreshing, which were perfect for the summer days in St Augustine. Service was friendly and even offered us water. The establishment itself was clean, including the bathrooms. They have plenty of games, a nice comfy couch, and lots of room for people to hang out. This is a low-key place to hang out and get a good brew. We will make this a mandatory stop in future trips to STA. read more

After visiting this taproom a few times, I can with all sincerity say that it's the full package. They have a wide variety of beer (IPA for my boyfriend, cider for me). They had great music, a comfortable vibe, and friendly service. The bartender was warm but not too chatty, and checked in on us when our drinks got low. Another perk of the place is it's ideal location. Right in the epicenter of St. Augustine, it's less busy than the St. George Street area but still a central location to walk to. Came here on a whim, beer was good, bar tender was polite except to the pink haired one who assumed we knew about how to order their sampler. All went well until the we closed out. 2 samplers 1 of which was the same as my friend who paid 6.50 and the second only had specialty beer which could go up but by $1 well my bill had a4 dollar increase. We went here on a bar crawl tour and once the tour was over, we came back! The coconut coffee porter was one of the best "dessert beers", as I call them, I've ever had. So much flavor and body. One complaint that I had was that there was only one bar tender for a packed Friday night bar. This place definitely needs to add a few more bartenders and it would be a 5/5! Terrible customer service. Walked in at 9:25 to grab a quick drink and was met with terrible attitude. Asked the lady working bar how she was and she let us know they were closing and basically turned us away from service. We were well aware of them closing in 30 minutes and only planned to stay for a quick 10 minutes. Unexpected and rude.
