I posted a review a while back but Ancor contacted me and said to please take down and they would work something out. I gave two pieces to be upholstered. It was a competitive price. I heard nothing back for months. I called. No response. When they did respond over 3 months later they said they had COVID. Again no one communicated. It took me 4 months to get my pieces done. One was nicely done. The second piece when you sit on it the cloth sags. I had not noticed that before. They never made right the lapse of time. A friend of mine went to another company 2 months later and got her piece back promptly. I would never use this company again. read more

The chair used to belong to my mother and she had it reupholstered years ago in a crushed red velvet material. I only reupholstered the chair because the material was showing wear. So I had it redone in an orange material (keeping it in the same color pallet as my mom's fabric to maintain her essence and style) but simultaneously restyling it to match my decor. We had an amazing experience with this company. We needed a loveseat and 6 dining room chairs to be reupholstered. Efrain came to our home in Evanston with swatches. He gave us a very reasonable quote, and he took our furniture away that same day! A few weeks later, he and his son returned our reupholstered furniture. The work they did was magnificent. The dining room chairs were over 35 years old and the cushions had been completely worn. Ancor recovered these with a modern fabric and new padding. They really look like new. The loveseat was about 10 years old; the fabric was very worn and the cushions were sagging. Ancor added new foam and re-covered it professionally. It honestly looks better than when we bought it. Efrain has a wonderful eye for color and knew exactly which swatches would be best for our home. I'm thrilled with Ancor's work! They came to my home to repair a tear and replace 5 buttons on a vintage leather Chesterfield sofa. The work was done in less than 2 hours and the sofa now looks GREAT again. I got quotes from other upholsterers, but they were outrageous (some over $1,000). Ancor's rate were very, very reasonable, especially given the precise nature of these hand-sewn repairs. Also, they were great at communicating. I remember reading the Yelp reviews being a major reason I had hired Efrain. I got an original quote that was different from my second quote but ended up going with them anyways because I thought it would be worth the investment. I had an old couch reupholstered along with a wing back chair. In retrospect, I would have bought a new couch since it cost me a bit over 2k for these two pieces. I think the application of the fabric was well done, however, the fabric clings to all dog hair and the cushions are hard as a rock. I use to spend so much time laying on this couch for comforts sake and now several months later rarely sit on it. Also, I had messaged Efrain asking for an estimate on when the couch would be done and hadn't heard back from him until the couch was done and once the couch was done, I received an overwhelming amount of calls to see when I was available for delivery. read more

I recently needed to have my six chairs for my dining room table done. My kids had taken quite a toll in the chairs over the past 15 years. I didn't want to replace the table and chairs simply its difficult to find good SOLID quality furniture anymore. They were at my residence within 1 hour of the call. The work was done very quickly, in less than 2 weeks. I'm very pleased with the craftsmanship along with the added cusion. I would have given 5 stars because of the work, professionalism, and timely fashion that the work was performed. My only gripe was I had a balance of $274, I gave $280. He didn't have any change at the moment and i was too lazy to go to the store and return with exact change. So I guess I gave a $6 tip. read more

Mixed feelings. At first it was 5 star. They showed up on time on a Sunday morning!! They were the only ones out of several 5 star Yelp places to return a call quickly on a Saturday. Pickup and delivery were professional and skilled, price seemed very reasonable. A used leather couch needed cleaning and a leg replaced. They picked it up in the 'way northern burbs, fixed it, and delivered it promptly, ON TIME, and professionally to my place downtown. They carved and created a new leg SO WELL that I can't hardly tell it from the other legs. The problems: A damaged area (not a wear pattern, but what looks like a drip of chemical solution that dissolved the surface to expose the raw leather) of leather that was not noticed by 2 sets of eyes and was not pointed out by the Ancor rep at time of pickup, clearly evident after delivery, their claim being it was always there. Photos really did not support their claim but the initial photos were so low res and given how used the couch was, I gave them the benefit. The other problem was a stain on the sofabed mattress that they couldn't get out. Yet some carpet cleaner and a rag and I got most of it out myself. Their explanation is that they don't want to damage the fabric, yet when charging over 400 bucks to clean a leather sofa and to de-bedbug clean a mattress (keep in mind, pickup AND delivery is included in that price) you'd think they do a cleaner test on a piece of fabric and then go after the one stain (yup, only one) that was at issue. Overall, mixed feelings- so much was positive about the experience, yet I'm sufficiently concerned about the cleaning process that I'm going to bring someone else in to reclean the mattress to make sure it's done right. Conclusion: I would absolutely recommend them HOWEVER, I would document with careful photos what you have before the service is provided and if there are any specific issues identified, clearly communicate them in an email to them so it's in writing. read more

Although most companies come within $50.00 of each other, overall I decided to go with Ancor because Efraim said I would be pleased with the overall finished product. The chair was a slipcover chair and I had envisioned it being reupholstered which Efraim said would be difficult to do because of the chairs construction. He said he could easily do a slipcover, but I pressed to have it reupholstered. I received the chair within 4 days from the time he picked it up. It is beautiful--he perfectly aligned the fabric which I know was difficult because of the construction of the chair and the fabric itself. I recently had 2 chairs reupholstered by Ancor, and they turned out fantastic. Efrain is wonderful to work with. I sent him a couple of pics of the chairs from my phone and he gave me an estimate immediately via email. He came and picked up the chairs, and delivered them after the job was done, at no charge. When Efrain came back with the goods, we spent a bit of time looking through his fabric samples, which were hard to stop flipping through... Ancor's fabrics are way more interesting than almost anything you'd find in off-the-floor furniture. I already have a list of other pieces that I'd like to reupholster. :-) I recommend giving Ancor a call or shooting them an email -- less expensive than buying new, and you can get really creative and find some terrific fabrics. I have an expensive leather recliner that is about 25 or 30 years old that I didn't want to part with so I thought I would have it recovered. I read good reviews for Ancor Upholstery on yelp and thought I would give them a try. These guys are awesome. I am soo happy we chose Ancor! Effrain was Great!! The customer service was really good. They worked with us on our payment plan which was nice. Then when we decided we were going to need the furniture back sooner than we planned they were able to have it done and ready. I want to post up pictures of there work because their website doesn't really give them too much justice! We had 2 chairs and a sofa serviced and they turned out very very good. So you maybe wondering why a 4 instead of 5 :) The only negative thing I can report is 1) Effrain didn't want to show us ALL the samples. It was literally like pulling teeth. I didn't quite understand why it was soo hard for him to let us view all the different types of material. He just was pulling out a little at a time and my mom and I kept asking is this all you have? We weren't too impressed with the first choices we were given. After about the 3rd or 4th request for more selections we found what we were looking for. The end results were definitely worth the search! 2) We requested 4 pillows verses 2 because of the size of our sofa. Well come to find out there was a material shortage in his estimate so we were only able to have 2 and wasn't notified about the change. That was a little discouraging but Effrain did say he will add 2 more pillows when it's time for him to order more material from that company. So we shall see...Otherwise everything else was wonderful! We plan on using them again for our dining room set. I would definitely recommend their services to friends and family!!! The price was what we were looking for. They have an array of materials so just remember to ASK, ASK, ASK!!! lol UPDATE.......9/10/10............ Effraim followed through!!
