My sister has been raving about this place and so we attempted to come here on Memorial Day because the owner had originally told my sister that he would be open, but alas when we got there it was closed. He had just changed his hours to be closed on Mondays. We finally went today and I was relieved when the door opened. I picked one of the tables with a booth seat along the wall. The music was lively but not obnoxiously loud and put me in a good mood. Everything sounded so delicious so we ordered a few items. We ordered so many things that the owner asked if we were anticipating another person to join us. We finally settled on: (appetizers) Britoat (fried stuffed phyllo): it came with 3 and a red dipping sauce. I requested a different filling in each and thankfully he obliged without any overt repulsion to my "complicated order". One filled with chicken, another with seafood and another with vegetables. We also ordered Berber spinach which came with the fluffiest, non crumbly bread. Everything is made in house and the owner seemed taken aback that I would ask, as if all restaurants obviously make everything from scratch. Our entrees included the chicken Tagine, the Moroccan lasagna and the meatball Tagine. The chicken was the most tender piece of thigh I've ever had. It is a bit salty but just eat some bread to nullify the saltiness. The lasagna meat sauce was the best sauce of the 3 and I used the bread to mop up all of the sauce. I couldn't identify all of the spices and flavors so it was an impressive new experience here in Memphis and I really hope more people will discover this place. We ended the meal with a little flan which is made just the way I like it. We also ordered the Harrerah vegetable soup to go which made it home without spillage and some dessert for my kiddos: rghayef . They look like little phyllo dough roses soaked in honey. Although the bill was well above what I normally pay, I was completely at peace about it because I know the earthenware it's cooked and served in isn't cheap, I can't replicate it home, there was enough leftover for another meal for 2 people, everything is made from scratch, ingredients from the owner's farm, the cows are grass fed, etc. I can't wait to go back to try about 3 more dishes. read more

Oh my gosh! This place is a hidden gem. It was totally perfect - delicious food, beautiful decor, relaxing music and impeccable service. When the ice storm knocked out the power in the hotel where I was staying, Andalusia provided the best possible refuge. The lovely Hanan, who established the restaurant with her husband, explained how about 70 percent of the food they serve is organic and the mint tea is partially sweetened with honey. OMG! Hands down the BEST kept secret in the city! I don't want to tell anyone about this place, I literally want to keep it allllll to myself but I can't. We weren't sure what to expect, but we're so glad we tried it. Everything was good and you have to get the morrocan tea. It was a green tea with the perfect amount of honey poured from the cutest tea pot into a cup with mint leaves. Loved it so much! We had an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert and shared all of it. I came here on an anniversary celebration and am leaving with one of the most satisfied bellies and souls I've had in a long time. The Hareerah soup melted in my tummy with cinnamon and sweet dates, followed by main courses of couscous and lamb tagine served in earthenware pots. Homemade bread, avocado milkshakes, and flan for dessert all made the evening simply perfect. This place is a hidden gem. The entire experience was 5 stars. I came for dinner and the ambiance was designed for you to feel transported back to Morocco. From the decor, to the lighting to the soft elegant musical strings playing in the back ground. The owner opened this restaurant a year ago and still greets and serves and chats w guests. Being new to Moroccan cuisine I asked him what he recommends and how the meal is traditionally enjoyed. He is charming to engage with and one can tell how much passion he has for his menu creations. Very nicely decorated space. Really nice owner and employees. I had a Moroccan specialty, chicken pastilla. It was delicious and authentic feeling. The tagines eaten by my friends were also raved over. The eggplant dip was appreciated even by the eggplant hater in our group. First let me say the food was amazing! If you want good Moroccan food this is the place to come. There is one caveat though, it is pricey. Excellent! Three of us decided to try the restaurant at 3:30 in the afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves. It was too hot for hot tea but I wanted to try the mint tea and they very kindly served it to us iced. It was excellent. We ordered the eggplant and spinach appetizers to share and I can't say which was better. The bread with them was delicious. We ordered a main course from each of the options and had a different protein with each. We didn't leave a bite of any of them but I am still dreaming about when I can have the lamb tangine again. The only disappointment was that they had just started making the sweets so we will have to return to try dessert (and have the lamb ) read more

I love Moroccan food. Really, really love Moroccan food. I've enjoyed it in cities from New York to San Francisco, from London to Spain. I've also enjoyed it in Morocco. I have to say, some of the best Moroccan food I've enjoyed outside of Morocco was last night, in East Memphis, at a new Moroccan restaurant called Andalusia. I read all the reviews - good and bad - and I still wanted to try for myself, even though the menu prices (as others have commented) were so high - more than I normally would spend for a meal. The negative reviews were correct about dry meat (I avoided the chicken and lamb) and fairly bland spices (I was hoping for more flavor, but knew not to expect it, so I wasn't too disappointed). My friend and I each ordered the split pea soup and hot mint tea, then split the spinach app, meatball tagine and the Moroccan specialty, seafood pastilla. The soup was good (needed salt - or to add the spicy olives that come with), and the spinach dip was ok. The bread that accompanied both items was very dry; it seemed like it was day old, not freshly baked as other reviews have stated. After viewing photos, I fully expected the small-sized meatballs, but I didn't expect them to be so dry. Maybe they're using meat that's too lean? Or, maybe all their meat is simply overcooked? IDK. But they were dry. The tomato-based sauce was good and I liked the egg (which was cooked perfectly). The seafood pastilla was good. I liked it. My friend didn't. Even though she likes fish/seafood, this was too fishy tasting for her. If you don't like fishy-smelling/-tasting seafood dishes, pass on this one. I, however, would order it again. It's light and nicely textured, but no special spice -- just the seafood & noodles. The mint tea. It's v-e-r-y sweet. I don't drink sweet tea and I could barely drink this. But I did. Because it costs $5.25! That's a LOT for a cup of tea. But, I was there for the total experience. And part of that exp'ce is the mint tea. Next time I want to try the avocado shake. I almost gave Andalusia 2 stars b/c it "could've been better." But b/c I'm willing to try it again for the pastilla and avo shake, I bumped it up a star. Maybe next time I'll be able to bump it up another star. Hopefully the restaurant takes into account the negative reviews that are consistent in their content and make some positive changes (like lowering their prices to accommodate portion size, and not over-cooking their meats) to increase their customer base. :) read more

Andalusia is amazing! We moved from WA where we loved getting Moroccan Food and could easily get it. Now living in TN we thought we may never find a great Moroccan place around us.
