This restaurant took us totally by surprise. Very unassuming from the outside strip mall entrance. Once we got inside, it was amazing. The service was a teeny bit slow but I would wait hours for the food. The menu says best tea in Memphis and I have to agree. Fragrant, sweet, savory, it was amazing. We didn't go in super hungry so split an appetizer and an entree. Beef and lamb kabob over hummus was superb. The hummus was the fluffiest and smoothest I have ever had. The entree was the Moussaka and I have been craving it since we had it three days ago. Literally can't wait to go back. read more

After an hour waiting the waiter came and told us they "lost" because they were having system issues. The were only 2 tables including us at the restaurant. We been here before and like the place but this time it was a very bad experience. We left, not going back ever again horrible customer service. read more

Food was phenomenal! From Boston where we have some of the best restaurants and this easily blew them all out of the water. Service was amazing, and we were greeted right away! The iced tea is delicious. The pita is homemade and warm when it comes out and the kabobs were delicious with generous portions. We even got to try the chocolate mousse and it was so good! Will definitely be back when I'm back in the Memphis area. 10/10 recommend! read more

I really love the way this location is decorated with the rugs everywhere. It's such a cool way to decorate. The food isn't really my thing but it's still good quality and I don't mind being brought here. I enjoy the shawerma, especially the one with hummus, and there's other things I'd love to try if I ended up back here. I'm sad they closed their location in Germantown because that was the one I went to the most. Casablanca has to be one of my all time favorite places to eat at. The food is always so delicious, the service is hospitable and family friendly, and the ambiance is so unique and cool. I adore the ceilings and light fixtures at the poplar location. My family will often rotate between Poplar and Madison, nonetheless we never fail to enjoy our time at either locations. My favorite go-to dishes would have to be the Baba Ghanoush, the Egyptian Hawashi and some of their iced tea. Their tea, iced or hot, is an absolute must-try! read more

This location is causal dining. The decor is authentic to Mediterranean. I must say the hospitality and customer service is excellent. They have a hot tea that's great for winter that includes Ginger. The kabobs were all lamb no beef added. They were grilled medium without asking!! Tender, seasoned, little char and moist. The char onions give the lamb additional seasoning. Now the vegetables were actually my favorite. My taste buds believe the vegetables are roasted for a stew texture and flavor. The variety was potatoes, carrots, squash and sweet potatoes. All vegetables were tender and savory. First time here. We tried the hummus and pita. The pita was fresh and warm, extremely soft! The hummus was outstanding flavor. We tried the special tea iced. And it is sweet with honey. We are not such sweet fans but enjoyed. We ordered the Shawarma platter which has a nice sauce on the chicken. The rice is lovely long grain yellow rice but the veggies were only starchy potatoes and carrots. That was a bit disappointing. My wife an daughter were able to share it with a side salad. I had the Jerusalem salad which was nice and freaking with a mix of salad and tabouli. Their house dressing i enjoyed. If you like hot and spicy get the yellow container of spicy sauce, but only try a small dab first. My lips were numb for half my meal. Enjoyable service and very friendly. read more

We went here last night an hour before our movie, usually it's fast but not tonight. We had a party of 8 and everyone except 3 of us got our food in a timely fashion. Multiple tables got their food before we did, an hour into it we told our waitress and she said it's coming the kitchen is backed up, I get it but an hour is ridiculous, she then brings the fries out which were mediocre at best, I then tell her I'm only paying for the fries because we still don't have our entrees an hour after we sat down. She acted like I was going to pay for the entree, I did not. This location always has shoddy service but tonight was on a different level of bad. I'll keep going to the midtown location. This poplar location needs serious change. read more

This is why I go to the one on Madison. The whole restaurant is covered in a film of something. Grease, dirt? My sandwich was flavorful but the grease was not drained. The pita was stale. The fries were gross refried flavorless dry crinkle cut fries- not the seasoned ones at midtown or on the menu. The sink in the hallway which I am assuming is for staff to use had water just sitting in it. The service was not great, really just an after thought. Our waitress pretty much did not attend to us but a tall gentleman with curly hair was really nice and took over when he saw that she was ignoring us. My table was dirty. Great little hole in the wall, but I'm so confused how I got baba ghanoush one week that was delicious and greenish one week, then ordered the same thing and got just bland, tan baba ghanoush. Then was told I didn't get the "Casablanca" version, which wasn't what I'd receive the first time either. Maybe I was given a wrong dish the first go around, but I'd love to know what it was. Best hummus in town, not ganna lie. And their olive oil is amazing! read more

As an international traveling food critic and unbeknownst to the staff, the following is what I experienced: - Staff were NOT welcoming nor personable. - We would have left if our waitress was the one that was playing with her hair throughout. In hindsight, we should have anyway! - Uncomfortable atmosphere. - Not authentic Greek! - Quality of food was extremely poor! Good place with a good atmosphere. I ordered the chicken shawarma, which came with rice mixed with vegetables. The chicken was a decent portion. It was a little different than I expected, but it was still good. It had a glaze on it that was a bit sweet. The rice and veggies were also very moist with some type of oil-based sauce. I liked both. This was the original Casablanca location, and it has really gone downhill. I highly recommend driving 10 minutes down the street to visit their Germantown location instead. Portions are bigger and food is tastier. Also, this location started charging for to-go sauce. What on earth is that about?! If it's your first time trying Mediterranean food, try the Germantown Casablanca OR Happy Greek over by the University of Memphis. read more

Stopped here for lunch after a long morning taking the tour in Elmwood Cemetery. We were suprised how busy it was despite being early on a Sunday but we were seated right away. We both ordered the Falafel and he ordered some tea. Tea was amazing. I'd highly recommend. I don't usually get anything more than water at restaurants. The falafel was very good. The pita was a little dry in parts but otherwise excellent. Seating is a bit odd- it sort of feels like everyone is sitting on top of everyone else but we were in the back so it was fine. I had a bit of a confusing experience at Casablanca this past weekend when I was visiting Memphis; some things were great, and other things not so great. The food overall was pretty good. We started with the small mezze combo (hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, and pita), which was good. The baba ghanoush had a good smoky flavor, but I wasn't wild about the texture (so smooth that with the color - quite green - it seemed like over-pureed guacamole). My mother in law had the chicken shish kabob platter, which was okay (I thought the chicken was quite dry). My brother in law had the chicken shawarma sandwich, which he liked (it was the only thing I didn't try). My husband had the hummus with chicken shawarma, which was good (their hummus is tasty and truly smooth). I had the pastitsio (Greek or Middle Eastern lasagna), which was pretty good (the taste was great, but I'm more used to a penne or tube-shaped pasta in pastitsio rather than spaghetti - and the spaghetti was quite hard and chewy from being twice cooked I expect). So overall, the food was pretty good. (The tea was way too sweet for me, so I had to give it to my husband who can handle a lot more sugar than I can.) The restaurant is nice inside - definitely casual, but warm and inviting. But the service wasn't great? Our waiter seemed really overwhelmed even though the restaurant was pretty empty on a Sunday night. When he came to our table, he asked what we wanted to drink. We asked if we could go ahead and order, since we'd had long enough with the menu and knew what we wanted; but he said no, that he preferred if we just ordered drinks just then. When he came back with our drinks, he asked if we wanted to order any appetizers, and we said yes, but that we were also ready to our meals. He took our orders this time but didn't write them down and had to ask a few of us what we wanted again. We were so sure our orders weren't going to come out right, but they did! The food was pretty good, but the experience with the service was average. I would go again because it's food I know I like, but it didn't impress like I hoped it would! read more

This is a great local spot for Mediterranean food. They have three locations in the Memphis area (Midtown, East Memphis and Germantown). I've only been to this East Memphis location, but to be honest, the others look cuter. Parking is plentiful here because of the Whole Foods being next door. I think this would also be a great spot for take-out. Unlike a lot of places in Memphis, everything here tastes like it is made fresh from scratch. All of the dishes that I saw looked good and everyone I was with enjoyed their dishes. Everyone gets two different sauces (spicy and mild), plus olive oil to top off their entrees. I really liked the spicy green sauce on the salmon sandwich. I would recommend this place for a group outing, or for take-out. One of the better places I've tried in the area! read more

After a long day at the office I stopped in to get dinner for me and my son. I thought I would order something different so I also ordered the Baba Ghanoush too. When I tasted it it was rancid like old ketchup up. I placed it in the fridge to return a few days later. I didn't want a refund I just wanted something that was edible. A replacement. Instead of fair customer service I was riddled with questions: why didn't I bring it back? Because I don't need to waste gas driving back to a restaurant who should have presented me with food that was edible. Why didn't you call? Because you guys were busy. That's not good enough you should've called or brought it back the same night. I left a small container on the counter for them to decide what to do with it. My family and I have eaten at this restaurant for many years it was very disappointing. That was my eight dollars that essentially went in the trash. I didn't get to eat but Casablanca kept my money. And if you did it to me you will do it to others. The problem that I have is that since Covid some Restaurants still want you to support their business and the service and the food is sub par to say the least. Get it together! Such a gem in East Memphis! I've heard so many great things about this place and so happy I got to try it out. My group of 3 first shared the small mezza combo with hummus and baba ghanoush & it was delicious! it came with a plate of pita bread and it was a great appetizer. I got the beef & lamb shawarma and it was enough to leave me full & satisfied for a normal lunch. Great price for just $9. Super tender meats & there are also some vegetables inside. I love the pita bread sandwich. also the tea is a must try!! There's a gingery hint to it and it's unlike any iced tea I've ever had. SO good will definitely get it next time I come here. How did I miss out on this place so long. Service was great...nice menu; will definitely be back to sample some of their many other delicious menu items but for now I'd like to rave about the plate I ordered this evening; the Hummus with Shawarma for $12. Hummus with your choice of chicken, or beef and lamb, or mixed shawerm. Served with pita bread. I got the mixed shawarma and it was incredible. The meat was delicious, cooked just right and their hummus was probably the best tasting, creamiest hummus I've ever had...an outstanding compliment to the meat. You get more than enough for the price and the two sauces they serve with the meal further elevates this already great dish. They serve the Shawarma with fresh pita bread...don't be shy; stuff your pita pocket with this deliciousness and pick a sauce, one has a bite to it and get at it! Good stuff. I'll be back! read more

It was just little ol' me with a giant half chicken, probably a pint of rice, and a salad of veggies. It was soooooooo good. I love taking a bite of hummus with some rice and some chicken. The kabob plate didn't come with the soup and salad, but that was okay because it was still a ton of food! Ten pieces of grilled chicken, a huge serving of rice, and some veggies on the side. I can't wait to eat it for the next few days. This place is easy, right off Perkins exit of the 40, lots of parking, and you can sit by yourself and have a nice long lunch. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing place on the inside, but when the food tastes like it does it doesn't even matter. Bonus it's right next to a cozy Yemeni coffee shop and a Mediterranean grocery store.

I know some restaurants are having a difficult time keeping staff and maybe the cook is not as experienced, or maybe the head cook was off that day, or maybe they have to cut costs and instead of serving a full piece of bread with that lovely spice inside of it, they now have to split it in order to cut cost.
