I appreciated this park because it was a grassroots effort. Since then the park has become more sophisticated with playgrounds, picnic shelters, restrooms and a little ones book library. One part of the park that endears me for walking are the mowed paths, some seem on purpose, others seem for maintenance. I use these paths, in combination with the main path to change directions on my walk. During my standard one hour walk, I never get bored and can change directions to avoid other walkers. Sometimes I walk my dogs there and do not want them near other dogs. When I was using trail for rehabilitation, there was a cute lady that was training for tu he Mountain to Sea trail, we trained the same time every day and I could change routes to avoid the impression that I was stalking her. The trail also has some elevation changes, but the distance between hills is small enough that you can keep your heart rate up if you speed up on downhills. Surprisingly, I have never seen anyone running here, the same qualities that make it a good walking path, would make it a good running path. There is a definitive set of rules posted, but I have never seen any enforcement during my hundred or so visits. With that said the only violations I have seen are off leash dogs. I have seen a lot of people fishing at the pond, but no one catching. I see th ed m work around the perimeter of the pond with negative results. They definitely need to look into getting the pond stocked, maybe with state help. The most amusing use of pond was by labrador who retrieved sticks quite nicely an DC had a blast doing it, although at cost of violating park rules. Overall, I would recommend park for runners, walkers, children that need some play time. I don't know what the reservation policy for picnic pavilion is, it could be a great place bbn for a birthday party as long as someone else isn't already there.

We saw the Red-cockaded Woodpecker which was awesome. The helpful Staff member at the Visitor Center showed us pictures and played the sounds of them which was very helpful in locating them. We also saw a Fox Squirrel which was also a first. The Visitor Center is very nice, with a Nature Center and very clean restrooms. Definitely will be back !!!

It's a ten mile trail and their are markers more than every .5 miles. It is an easily accessible road with parking wherever you choose and it's quiet both night and day. Do be careful for loose dogs about the midway intersection point. I'd recommend still carrying something on you for protection if you are going before sunrise or after sundown, not just a flashlight or reflective gear either. Easy trail, limited on inclines. Friendly for families, dogs, leisure walks or even bike rides. There are no signs pointing to the trail in clear sight unless you actually know where the start point is. This trail is also on the web if you want to know the history, parking spots, and entry spots.

My doggo and I come here often enough and it's not a bad dog park but it could certainly be better…read more There are 2 areas one for dogs under 25 lbs and 1 for large dogs. The large dog area is huge and even has a second area in the back. There's always buckets of water out and waste bags available. They finally covered up a big mud hole that was pretty gross but then took away the kiddy pools for the dogs. There's no agility equipment or anything in this park so make sure you bring your own toys. There is so much room they could make this place great for dogs but just do the bare minimum. There's also a walking trail, if you do all them equals out to about 3 miles. Overall is pretty good gor a free park, never had issues with other dogs and it's maintained regularly. My dog loves coming so it's a plus!
