The staff and pharmacist here were super helpful transferring my old prescriptions and informative with recent changes to them. Brown & Welin is old-timey and that is somehow comforting, at least to me because I am old. The only down side, so far, to the quaintness is that they have shorter hours than the big stores, but I would sacrifice the availability for premier customer service I have received here. Don't remember her name but she might be Taiwanese or from mainland China because she had a heavy Mandarin accent. We were heavily pressured into buying a Rx drug prescribed for my mom by her GI specialist. We respect and appreciate the technology that Western Medicine brings. It is definitely an advantage and benefit. But as far as the prescription drugs goes, we all know that it comes with a list of possible side effects that is not only taxing to the human body in general but most importantly, our filtering organs such as our liver and kidneys. So for someone who looks like they have been a pharmacist for at least a couple of decades telling the customer off that their belief in choosing a more holistic approach in healing/correcting the problem is wrong and to be a smart ass is not only rude but unprofessional. Her opinion was so rigid and knowing that Rx medication comes with side effects just makes me shake my head and say, "Unbelievable, you are a saleswoman at heart. Yes, please disregard your sense of human integrity and just sell! Don't care about the potential aftermath that will come later on and exercise your classically trained Western mentality to the fullest that closes you off." Even if you don't agree with the customer 's point of view, still respect their human rights to choose for themselves. I'm sure you would want the same for yourself.

Many of these functioned as mini-department stores, having a wide selection of goods to meet the needs of the community: cookware, clothing, and gifts, just to name a few categories. Webster's Pharmacy seems to be one of these almost extinct businesses that has miraculously survived in Altadena since 1926. I was on my way to Bulgarinia Gelato when I noticed the cool retro signage of Webster's and decided to pop in to check it out. There's a large, free parking lot in the back, as well as street parking in the front. I was pleasantly suprised to find not only a fully stocked pharmacy but an absolutely adorable gift shop featuring BOOKS and other gifts. This includes a section devoted to ANTHONY BOURDAIN (a hero to many Yelpers, despite his utter disdain for Elite Yelpers, may he RIP). There are holiday candies, slippers, Christmas tree ornaments and pretty much something for everyone (there was even a section for folks that like to use "colorful metaphors", as Spock would say.) I'm not sure if the gifts are stocked year round but if you need something last minute for the holidays, Webster's can certainly help. Most items are full price but occasional discounts apply.
