I love Dr. Gold-Schein and her staff! This is an office of all women and which as a woman, I truly love. As a person who has always had premium insurance coverage, I've never been mandated to have a Primary Care Physician or have a referral from one so I've just rotated through my list of specialists thinking I was getting the best medical care. After seeing Dr. Gold-Schein, I wonder what took me so long to finally get a PCP (Primary Care Physician), because having a great PCP in today's medical society is the key to longevity in life! Having a truly caring, educated, thorough PCP who can communicate effectively is the keystone in today's medical world because your PCP is basically your personal medical manager and I could not have a better person on my team than Dr. Gold-Schein! Now that I'm in my 30's, establishing a relationship with a PCP is a MUST since "everything goes downhill from here". Sadly, in today's medical world, most physicians (especially the specialists) tend to disregard your other physicians' notes, medical records, and then make these myopic diagnosis, prognosis, and write prescriptions based on their interactions with you in which had some of them taken the time to actually read your chart and history, would've prescribed something else since whatever they prescribed you actually cannot be taken with something else you are currently taking, and this is exactly why you MUST have an incredible PCP to manage all of these myopic docs out there. If you have an incredible PCP like myself, Dr. Gold-Schein, you would be able to experience how fantastic it is have a doctor catch the mistakes of the myopic specialists and make changes to your prognosis so that you are on the right plan customized to you in order to have a long and healthy life. Dr. Gold-Schein is part of the Mt. Sinai Medical Center network and which as a Miami Beach resident I love! God forbid something were to ever happen to me, the hospital I would be taken to is Mt. Sinai Medical Center (MSMC), and since I'm a patient in the MSMC network, not only is my chart available to all physicians in the MSMC network including the ER, but my PCP, Dr. Gold-Schein not only has hospital rights there to make decisions on my behalf but is a very well respected physician by others at MSMC. Another fantastic perk to Dr. Gold-Schein being apart of the MSMC network is that if you need additional testing, CT, X-ray, etc...You just walk downstairs and admit yourself to MSMC and have your tests done immediately instead of having to get them done at a third party outpatient facility a few days or weeks later. Also, because she is in the MSMC network she will have your results back in HOURS and same day which is incredible. No more waiting and no second appointments at a later date. This medical perk is priceless as I like to be as efficient as possible with medical issues. I do love Dr. Gold-Schein's straightforwardness which is not for everyone. She is very caring but not overly coddling which I also love about her as I am and adult, but again, that personality type in a PCP is not for everyone, some people need to be overly coddled. I also do like how thorough she is and will send you to specialists as she sees fit and then have you come back in after to make sure you did your homework and are staying on track. That is a sign of an excellent PCP and that is Dr. Gold-Schein. I also like how she is very comprehensive with your health and how she is a huge supporter of optimal mental health and work/life balance. Lizzie at the front desk of this office is wonderful and very easy to schedule appointments with. She will also call you and remind you about your appointments. She will also still give you and old school appointment card to keep in your wallet. The nurse/phlebotomist here is the best! She is very kind and courteous and fantastic at drawing blood effectively and efficiently. They even have a butterfly needle if you should request one to make you more comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Gold-Schein and her office and if you were to be her patient, you would be so lucky to know that you have one of the best PCP's out there managing your path to living long and prospering. I've worked in health care for a while, now, so I know when I'm being taken advantage of by a doctor. I have a prescription that I needed renewed but Dr. Gold Schein won't renew it unless I see her every 6 months, which is completely unnecessary for a healthy young adult. She lied to my face and told me that it was because it is a controlled med, which it is not. And I know it's not because I'm in health care, myself, but I just sucked it up and didn't fight her about it because I needed the refill. On top of that, she charges the visit as a follow-up rather than a wellness check because she can bill more for that and also collect a copay from me. Then we get to the extras. She tries to force a full set of labs and an ekg on me every time. And it's not just me, I've heard them talking to every single person in the waiting room about paying for their labs today. Every 6 months. Not necessary for a healthy 30year old. And on top of that I wait 45 minutes past my appointment time to even be brought back to the exam room. Which means I'm paying even more for parking by the time I leave. Oh and then there was the time she refused to give me a summary of care even though it's a government requirement. She also left my exam room door open the last time I was in the office which allowed me to hear her office staff obtaining at least 3 different authorizations for CTs while I was there. That is unusual in my opinion, and also, a violation of HIPPA since I heard it. read more

Without any doubt, she is one of the most knowledgeable, professional, dedicated, caring physicians I have every encountered. After years of only visiting specialists and believing primary care physicians were no longer necessary, Doctor Gold-Schein drastically improved my healthcare from the very first visit, and she continues to do so. From day one, Dr. Gold-Schein studied every aspect of my medical history, daily routine and current care. She has improved current critical treatments and expertly advised me of the best paths for future cure and prevention. The doctor prescribed all tests that are necessary to obtain a complete health diagnosis, and recommended serious changes in my diet and medicines, which had immediate positive results. Each visit, Dr. Gold-Schein received me punctually - or even before my scheduled appointment. She spent overly generous time each time to assure that all aspects of my care were reviewed in detail, and patiently answered my numerous questions. At every request for medical advice, the doctor promptly called back, and she generously referred me to trusted specialists. Dr. Gold-Schein's staff is also highly professional, courteous and responsive: from Daniel at the front desk, who attentively greets patients with kindness and respect, and bends over backwards to carry out tasks requests in person or phone, to the expert, skilled, caring and friendly nurses and appointment staff. Dr.Gold Schein has been my primary care physician for over 25 years. I chose her because of her fine reputation and excellent training. I stay with her because she has exceeded my expectations and has gone out of her way to provide the care I need. She makes smart decisions about sending me to the best specialists, recommending necessary testing, and interpreting all of the data. And, she does this with a kind and caring demeanor that makes me comfortable in her office. Occasionally, I am not as compliant with my regimen as I should be. When this happens, she offers me wise counsel and reviews the reasons for her recommendations. This motivates me to follow through with the plan. Dr. Gold Schein is approachable. She returns phone calls in a timely manner. AND, she makes phone calls to follow up on how I am doing. I do not know too many other physicians who will take the time to do this for their patients. It is because of her that I have reached a ripe, old age with relatively good health and attitude about my care in spite of medical challenges along the way. Her office staff is supportive and attentive. They accommodate my needs for appointment times, handle my records well, and make my wait in the office pleasant. (The smiles and candy don't hurt either!) I especially commend Daniel, the office manger, for his warm welcome, bright smile, and quick sense of humor, all the while keeping things flowing smoothly. In a word: "terrible." After about 2 years of seeing her pretty regularly as she tried to diagnose my chronic systemic condition, I finally gave up. Although she ran me around all the local specialists, there was never a diagnosis. Her specialty is giving "referrals." I saw no indication that she was interested in putting the pieces together, developing a diagnosis incorporating the reports coming in from the specialists. "Arrogant" would be another good word to describe his doctor and her office staff. As an example, I showed up on time for the first appt. of the afternoon. I was the only person in the waiting room. While I waited I had to listen to the office staff - behind the closed window - plan an upcoming Holiday Office get-together. After a 45 min. wait, the door was opened for me and I noticed the doctor herself was participating in the party planning conversation. It gets worse..... I was taken to a "prep" room where I waited another 15 min. When the doctor showed up she immediately explained to me that we were going to have to be "efficient' because she had to be somewhere else ASAP. I had been irritated in earlier appointments with her "attitude." But that was the last straw for me. read more

Dr. Gold Schein has been my doctor for over 20 years. She has taken excellent care of me and my adult daughters. In addition, I am a physician and I have referred her many patients over the years. They have also received the highest level of care. She is very complete and detailed in her evaluations and follows up on everything. I had yet another unpleasant visit with my Dr. on the beach today. The have made three billing errors on my account since my last visit in August. When I came for my follow-up in Sept., their office manager insisted that I owed them a deductible of $190 and I couldn't see the doctor until that was satisfied. Funny thing is, My plan does not call for any deductible for in-network office visits at all. I called the insurance from the Dr.'s office and asked the rep to speak with the office manager to corroborate the information and also confirm with her what my benefits were. The office manager refused and they refused to see me that date, even though I was sick and needed care. Shortly thereafter, their second billing mistake. I receive a bill for "balance due" on services (including an EKG) provided in-office on that August visit of $37.15. I checked it against my insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB) for that date, and it shows that I'm all paid up-- my co-payment (which was paid on that date) was only $20, nothing else was owed. I called the insurance who after three attempts spoke with the office and confirmed that nothing else was owed, except for the co-payment of the visit of August, which they showed as unpaid. Of course the unpaid co-payment is not true, they wouldn't let you walk in to see the doctor without payment, that's the first order of business at that office. Still they said for me to bring my receipt of payment as evidence. Of course I have that, and I brought it with me today for my (finally) follow-up to my August exam. My appointment today was for 8:30 AM the first one of their working day. It's workday for me also and I was hoping to finish my visit at 9:30 latest, since this was just a follow up so the doctor could review my lab and physical reports reviewed with me from my August visit. They kept me waiting until 9:30 and called in other patients before me, including one with a 9:00 appointment, and kept me waiting without any acknowledgement of my status (even the 9AM patient was surprised by this.) Finally around 9:45 am, the Dr. brought me in to a consultation room, all stressed out, and told me "she was not going to haggle over $20-$30 dollars (balance)..." but that she couldn't see me (today) if I didn't pay the $37.15" that they insist I owe. I showed her all the EOB and other correspondence from the insurance company as supporting evidence that's been paid and that I have no obligations outstanding. She said she had no time for that, that this was an insult to her, and that if the billing doesn't jive, she just expects me to "eat it" because of the time that she takes with her patients she believes that is fair and doesn't expect to have to argue about it, and that I wouldn't get that with any other doctor who takes insurance. She wouldn't listen to any reasoning or even review the documentation while I was there. I could almost respect it if the Dr. would advise patients from the start that, "listen I'll take your insurance, but I also charge extra for my services above and beyond that," and be upfront about it. The part that gets me is that they try to hide whatever extra charges they feel they are entitled to behind this pretext of insurance non-payment, and by saying that the insurance didn't pay and that I owe them because of insurance non-payment, which is wholly inaccurate. The fact that they have tried to do this more than once, raises flag about their practice as a whole for me. I don't "owe" when they decide they want to tag on an extra charge and not be transparent about that, from the start. I can't imagine how many patients from that office get over-billed and are not thoroughly checking against their insurance and paying extra. I would imagine that a good number do this, to this practice's benefit. I might have also paid extra unwittingly, had they not made the big mistake and raised the red flag by confusing my insurance (or misfiling my claim) and then requesting money for this deductible that had to be paid right then and there, before services are rendered, when I know that my health insurance plan does not work that way. I see that she (the DR) is not THAT much different than that office manager (who was denigrating and verbally abusive to me, last time,) and that none of them would ever admit to their billing errors. At least this visit, the doctor has now admitted that they don't care about any of their billing errors, as they expect their patients to "eat [them]"--which is to say that they acknowledge that errors are made, and that it's the patients that are financially responsible for them. So then, maybe these errors are possibly not being made by mistake, after all? I have to trust that there is better health (and patient) care to be had in Miami-Dade County.
