When I made the appointment, she told me she wouldn't only do Ashiatsu but she would do a combination of modalities. So I said okay and went. The room smelled like thick smoke and was very messy. I wasn't sure if it was hygienic. There was nowhere to put my clothes, so to avoid throwing them on floor, I had to hang them from her doorknob. In the hour and a half I paid for, she only did 25 minutes of massage. Ashiatsu was maybe 3 minutes of that, if any. She also seemed to have no intuition about pressure and kept hurting me or going too light. I kept having to say "ouch," tell her "that's too rough" or "you can do more than that." The other hour, she was doing some kind energy stuff, which I didn't like at all. It sounded like she was wheezing really loudly above my head in order to pressure me to breathe along with her, but as time went on and there was no more massage, I just kept getting more annoyed. When I flipped onto my back, I started choking from all the smoke, so she turned on some fans. I bought my bro and sis gift certificates to see her before I went to see her myself, and I regret that. Afterwards I called and told them not to go. I'm sure she's a nice person but I gave her way too much money for a very poor experience, and I need to go get a real massage now.

That's alright though since the Thai massage itself was great. I made an appointment for a 90 minute Thai herbal massage. I've had other Thai massages in the past, so I decided to try the one with the herbal pouch to see how that would be. I filled on the intake paperwork and you can point out areas you want more focus on and areas you want them to avoid. Cayla was my assigned masseuse, and she was really attentive and made sure the pressure and such was alright. She checked to make sure I was okay being stepped on, and I was like oh yes please. I absolutely loved how much more stepping and stretching there was at this place compared to the other places I've tried. I didn't get "beat up" as bad in comparison, but it was still really nice. The herbal portion was a heated herbal pouch and she'd tap that at various areas during a portion of the massage. The heat felt pretty great. On the positive side, I appreciated being started on herbs in tablet/caplet form. Though more potent, I can't stand the powders. I thought the email communication was very helpful. I'm on HRT/menopause medications and several supplements, and my Shen doctor took the time to explain how to time the herbs around everything I'm taking. That level of attention isn't something I would have gotten at my usual community acupuncture clinic ($30/session). That said, my symptoms (mainly post‑nasal drip and difficulty sleeping) didn't improve within the two‑week period, even after trying two different herbs: Allergy pills (for external issues like pollen) and then ECHSZYQP (for internal). I didn't realize that an in‑person pulse reading might have been important for a first visit. I also interpreted my doctor's encouragement to email back right away as a sign that the herbs might act quickly, so I felt some disappointment when that didn't happen. I've since been advised at my community acupuncture clinic to finish the bottle of ECHSZYQP (to treat dampness and spleen deficiency) that I got from Shen. I will continue herb support with my community clinic instead of Shen. For my financial situation, Shen Clinic's $129 for a consultation or $89 for the email option each time is a lot. Overall, Shen Clinic offers thoughtful, personalized care, especially for people who want detailed herbal guidance. With clearer expectations, the experience would be even stronger.
