What a hidden gem of a restaurant!! A friend recommended the Steak House to my husband and I and…read morewe decided to go for our anniversary on 2/11. We made a reservation for 5:00 pm. When you come to the Lodge and Golf Center you go into the main entrance and there's a hostess in the lobby. Since it was so close to Valentines Day the entire restaurant was decorated. As we were seated at our table we saw a pianist who was playing love songs softly in the corner. It was really nice. My husband and I were dressed in nice clothes but several people in the restaurant were wearing jeans so there really isn't a dress code. They had a Valentines menu but you could also order from the regular menu. We decided on the Valentines special: an appetizer to share (we chose shrimp cocktail), a choice of 3 entrees- Steak on a Stone, Lobster Ravioli or Tuscany Chicken (we both chose the Steak which was a 5oz filet seared on both sides and served on a 450 degree stone rare. The stone would continue cooking the steak until your desired doneness. I like mine Med but my husband likes his Med Rare so this worked out well for us. We both got a choice of 2 sides. I chose fried okra and baked potato. My husband chose mashed potatoes and green beans. We both got a dessert - a small red velvet cake plus a chocolate covered strawberry. The meal was DELICIOUS, the service was EXCELLENT and the atmosphere was very calming and pleasant. The pianist was an added bonus. We will definitely be back but we won't wait for a special occasion!

The owners are rude and a few other things We divided our 4-some up and played best ball to be efficient because they're still learning the game. We even let 2 groups play through because we were told no one was behind them. Ironically neither of those groups used the 90 degree rule, driving straight up the middle of the course Halfway through our 9 holes we recognized we were causing a backup to a pair playing behind us. We were running to get the balls not being used and occasionally didn't drive exactly 90 degrees but only at slight angles to try be as quick as possible Turns out the course owners were behind us and complained to the rangers that we be reprimanded because we weren't playing the 90 degree rule. Funny thing, neither were they. Understand it's their course but you'd think they would lead by example. Wont be returning Thanks to everyone else who made the 7.5 holes a great memory. Hope our play satisfied the owners on the last 1.5 holes

They like to act like this is a premier course and charge accordingly ($60). I recently played twice in the span of a week. Both times I will say the course was very nice but there's a catch. Normally, the course has a season where everything is just right. The other 9 months of the year, it's either a swamp or dry and dead. If you hit the season right, then you'll be in for an enjoyable 18. The staff is 50/50. Half are very helpful and friendly. The other half are arrogant and uptight. On my last round, I was met at 6:30 on #13 and was told I needed to have carts in by 7:30. No problem. He then continued with a very condescending tone as if we didn't understand pace and then continued by telling us to limit play to double. I'm 46 years old. I understand pace of play. What he neglected to realize was that we allowed people ahead of us to speed play along, and then we ended up waiting on them. The issues I have are inconsistent course conditions, arrogant staff, and price. They did away with their driving range a long time ago but they recently repainted the sign pointing to it so it may be coming back. The positives are when it's good, it's a very nice 18. Not overly difficult but challenging enough. Greens were speedy and I liked that. So if you're around in mid to late summer and want to hit a moderately difficult course, try it out. It's worth a shot at least once so you can check it off your list. A repeatable 18 each week...no.

I had to ask which 9 I was playing. When it came time to play, it came down to course conditions. Fairways are firm and the greens are almost non existent. Dead and I'm cared for by the golfers. I even saw a foursome of older guys playing and because his putt was bad he smashed his putter into the green. When it came to pace of play we finished our round just under 4 hours but had a group behind us who played from the red tees with the need to hit into us twice. First time the ball almost pegged my partner within a foot of him and I told them it's a blind hole just check next time you hit. Second time was 2 holes later and they dud the same thing. Got to the tee hit and didn't care another group was in front of them. It's as if people buy a tee time and expect they own the course. Later on I saw them looking in bushes and creeks for balls taking their time cause they were on the back 9. Bad playing conditions, bad golfers booking tee times, Golfers beware. Yes this course is cheap but those are filled with "Golfers" who want to rush through as fast as possible pissing of people, acting entitled and destroying a course that was once really decent and worth 4-5 stars now 2, if that.
