I met Dr Katz after I had my baby at Methodist Hospital and knew right away I wanted him as my son's pediatrician! He is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, always makes sure we leave with questions answered! told us if we needed anything to even walk in and see him, he especially makes time for newborns even when booked up! We were charged $400 for a 20 min ear infection check for my 1 year old son, with in-network insurance. We went in to have our sons ear checked at Dr. Katz office. This visit took about 20 minutes. He put a scope in his ear, wrote a script for some medication, and a few weeks later we get nearly a $400 bill for a 20 minute visit! This is ludicrous! After talking with the Office/Mercy Billing/and our insurance we learned that this office uses a code that bills you for a generic "Office Visit" that is nearly $400. So no matter what you come in for, a sore throat/ear infection/sun burn/something itches, and even if the visit is 2 minutes long, you will be billed for about $400 for an "Office Visit". I don't care where you come from, this is dishonest and unjustifiable on all levels. A 20 minute visit to the pediatrician for an small ear infection should not cost $400. Even after contacting his office, we were told that Dr. Katz said that, yes, the coding is correct. I was told that the office manager would call and so far they have yet to. This is how this office works the medical system/coding system to their advantage at the expense of its patients. read more

I don't normally write reviews and I always feel terrible since I use Yelp quite often but I felt a responsibility to write a review regarding Dr. Andy Katz. We found Dr. Katz through our yoga studio, he was teaching new parents all about how to care for newbors/infants. We just knew right away that was the kind of doctor we wanted for our daughter. He works in Elk Grove and we live in Sacramento so it was definitely a decision that we thought long and hard about. Let me just say this, "He was and is worth the drive!" On our daughters 6 month check up, Dr. Katz noticed while doing the eye exam that she had an eye abnormality. Very calmly, he had the nurse come in and confirm his diagnosis with a secondary eye exam using a very interesting device (I have no idea the name of it). Anyway, his diagnosis was correct that she was severely hypermetropic and her red light reflex was abnormal. He sent us to see an ophthalmologist and she told us that most pediatricians do not have the skill to see something like this from just a quick eye exam. She told us that we had a fantastic pediatrician and that he basically saved our daughters vision. She may still need to wear glasses but that it because it was caught early enough that it is correctable and not permanent. I would highly recommend Dr. Katz to all of my friends and family. He is excellent and I am very thankful for his attention to detail! read more

We just moved to the area from out of state and needed to find a new pediatrician for my 2 year old. I found Dr. Katz based on other reviews and I'm glad I did! He is very personable and answered all of my questions. After he learned we were new to the area, he even took the time to name some local attractions and places that we might enjoy with our daughter. 5 stars for Dr. Katz! However, I have to deduct a star for some of the office and other associated staff. I know Mercy/Dignity is a large group and in our short time here we've experienced several instances of poor communication. Specifically Mercy's left hand doesn't know what it's right hand is doing. 1. When I first made the appointment over the phone, I asked how I would go about getting my daughters records transferred to them. She told me I would have to wait until our first appointment and fill out a form there. When I got to the office I asked about this, and the front office staff gave me the form but implied this should have been completed ahead of time and when I mentioned I only had the phone number for her old office, I was told they would "try" to get the info they needed...well, ok then. This was a couple of weeks ago and I haven't heard if their effort to "try" has succeeded or not. 2. During her appointment I asked about flu shots. Dr. Katz said they didn't have them in quite yet, but I could check with the front office staff to schedule an appointment for an upcoming flu shot clinic. I asked about this when I checked out, and the response I received was a very flippant, "THEY told you to ask ME about that?" Um, yes. He did. The girl briefly asked another girl up front about it. She said there was "an email somewhere about that." So, I obviously never got that scheduled. 3. Last but not least, I tried to sign my daughter up for their online heath records account. I was told in the office that I needed to sign up as well since she is a minor. I am not a patient of Mercy, but I was told they could sign me up under Dr. Katz, and then I could add my daughter. So, I filled out two forms - one for me and one for her. I received a voicemail yesterday from someone saying they never received my form so they could not sign my daughter up. They left no phone number to call back. I called the main number, and talked to someone who gave me a different phone number. He told me I would be able to sign her up over the phone. I call that number today, and was told I need to fill out the paperwork in person. Like I already did. But apparently no one has that form and frankly, it's not worth another trip to the office to start this merry-go-round over again. We'll try again next year, or at the flu shot clinic. Oh wait, no one apparently knows anything about that either. Long story short, Dr. Katz is worth these minor frustrations. As long as he's there, I imagine we will keep him as our pediatrician for years to come. read more

I love Dr Katz. My kids have been seeing him for about 8 years. I went through several pediatricians before we found him and we have always received the best care possible. The office gets booked up and you will have to wait but it's worth that little inconvenience. read more

Dr. Katz ia the second pediatrician we found in Elk Grove. We are beyond thrilled to have foind him! Our boys are excited to see him and when our newest went in for his newborn check up our older two were telling him not to worry because Dr. Katz was nice and would find monkeys in his ears! My husband likes to take the boys in for their appointments because the team is always friendly and Dr. Katz always gives real advice amd doesn't make you feel rushed. He cares for his patients amd when you have a question or are worried he does an excellent job of calming your worries! read more

I never realized you could review a dr on yelp! I'd like to share that Dr. Katz takes amazing are of all 3 of my kids and he is very knowledgeable! He always makes sure all my questions and concerns are taken care of before the visit is over. He never rushes! My kids and I like him and trust him. I trust him with my kids health care! We couldn't as for a better physician to care for our kids! If you're looking for a new pediatrician I would highly recommend this one!!! read more

We started coming to Dr. Katz a year ago after switching from a few doctors. It is really easy to contact the office to make sick appointments, well checks, or just needing the doc to call you back. He is up to date with literature readings and the latest medicine. He is super friendly with my kids and goes over and beyond to make me as parent feel comfortable and heard. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Katz. I had a few appointments with him for my newborn and couldn't stand it anymore. Everyone has a different experience but we moved on to a different pediatrician whom we absolutely love! Here are my main reasons. 1. He is very biased against formula feeding. From the get-go I had a lot of problems with breastfeeding. I had had every intention of solely breastfeeding my baby. I had paid for and attended a breastfeeding class, and purchased pumping and breastfeeding supplies for hundreds of dollars. Anyway for whatever reason, my milk didn't come in, I had problems with latching etc it just wasn't working. At my 1st appointment with Dr. Katz I explained what was going on and he flat out said not to formula feed, it's normal for babies to lose weight etc. that I SHOULD be breastfeeding my baby on demand. I tried so so hard but days later my baby was starving and crying uncontrollably. I finally broke down and bought formula and Dr. Katz was sure to let me know he didn't approve at our next appointment. I gave breastfeeding another shot and a week later my baby had lost 7 oz! It broke my heart when he diagnosed my baby with 'failure to thrive'. My instincts had been telling me my baby wasn't getting enough breastmilk but he came up with all these theories about the baby sucking too hard and burning too many calories causing excess weight loss. 2. He is very condescending and disrespectful. About 2 weeks after my baby was born my husband had to travel. At the appointment he said he felt like I was too stressed out and that he needed to 'talk me off the ledge'..as if I was suicidal or something. Every new mother feels stressed out enough and doesn't need someone condescending to rub it in their faces. 3. He is not professional. At one appointment my husband and I were in the waiting room and heard him talking very loudly to another patient about getting a Gardasil (HPV) shot. Then he walks in and tells us .."I had to scold some teenager about being safe!" All I had to do was peek out the door and that would have been a HIPAA violation. I wouldn't want my medical information discussed with other patients. Anyway, this was just my experience. Hope it helps someone out there. read more
