I have a confession. Mr. B and I are cold-hearted murderers (of the flora kind). Severe drought over the past 5 years has meant tough water restrictions. In my town, yard watering was regulated by house numbers - odd house #s can run their sprinklers on M-W-Sat, even #s on Sun-T-Th. I think. I could never really remember. My grass was confused. So, we decided to do the right thing and finish off our grossly un-pedigreed Bermuda and crab grass. We murdered it...it was ugly anyway. Round-up and putting the kabash on the water hose did the trick. Now, reduced to a moonscape, we were the ugliest house on the block. My desiccated plants and neighbors definitely *had* to hate us. The Gladys Kravits' of my neighborhood, http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/imgLib/20090723_Mrs._Kravitz.JPG, were peeking out their windows in horror. The City of Corona thought we used too little water, so raised our rates accordingly. Finally, in 2014, I hired a landscape architect. But after 16 long months of excuses/delays/empty promises, I'd had enough of him. All I had was a set of foo-foo plans that had cost me an arm & a leg, but off-the-charts un-implementable. In my desperation, I scoured Yelp yet again. I found Wayne Andrew, my ultimate Yard Whisperer. Our first meeting in December 2015 went well. Armed with decades of experience and a great wit, he lit up when I spoke of my ideas: picket fence, arbor, roses, river rock pillars, playful garden art, artificial turf, and low maintenance, drought tolerant plants. He looked at my disastrous "professional" drawings and obviously pitied me. Not only were they unrealistic, he assured me he could create something beautiful for half the price. At this point, I should warn you this project has not been an overnight wonder, we still had to wait our turn. Busy man. But the true professional that he is, he stayed in frequent contact with me. While I waited, we created and massaged a new set of do-able plans, he, his son, Tyson whom I must bestow the title "right-hand man", and I. And when if finally became "our turn" the end of July, I finally met the rest of his dedicated, dependable crew. I have great respect for them all. Wayne and Tyson have been on the job almost every single day, working right alongside them. The rock pillars took extra effort because, he took over for his subcontractor after I did not like them, and ended up re-building them himself. Wayne runs a "pay as you go" business with meticulous invoicing. With the degree of complexity of my job, (removing creepy dead plants, leveling, pouring a new driveway and laying pavers, building the new rock pillars with old river rock, building and painting a new arbor (he designed it using the architecture of the house in his design), and installating timed, low voltage lighting and a timed drip system), it has taken almost two months from start to finish, with little time off for good behavior. No magic wand here. And that is why we must all be patient. Now it is finished. Better than I could have envisioned. I appreciate his and Tyson's creative suggestions, but especially their cooperation with me, as I was quite opinionated, both in design and choice of plants. The end result is beautiful, changing with each season. And he will be THE guy I call when I am ready to do my back yard. When we decided to take our lawn out and go drought tolerant, we did our research.We interviewed 4 different landscaper. One delayed us so long we let him go, another had a personality we knew we wouldn't be able to work with, and another had good artistic ideas but seemed very pricey. We were looking for someone who seemed trustworthy, competent, and easy to work with. I'm a photographer, and creative vision was also important to me. And of course, a reasonable price was desirable. Wayne Andrew appeared to have the qualities we were looking for!! We hired him, and once our project began, the crew showed up on time, worked dilligently and carefully, and cleaned up after each day. Wayne, and his foreman Tyson, also showed up regularly to consult with. All along the way he offered his thoughts and suggestions and was also open to ours. We were happy that the communication felt reciprocal. I was impressed with his creative vision, knowledge of plant materials and quality of the workmanship. Our previous backyard drainage pipes were clogged with roots and dirt so much that they were unable to function. Wayne discovered thjis and the pipes were replaced. They also corrected several nonfunctioning sprinklers and drips in the front yard and simplified the system. At the end of the job, we could hardly believe how beautiful our yard looked, front and back. He gave us a lovely curved paver walkway to our door, stone columns with pathway lights in them, and layers of top dressing and plants. In the back, he installed a flagstone pathway with moss surrounding the stones, and again, beautiful layers of plants, artificial turf and top dressings. I was dreading the graveled look of some drought tolerant landscapes I've seen, but this was gorgeous and made us wish we had done it sooner. It's difficult to find a landscaper who is both technically skilled and has artistic vision as well, but we were happy to have found both with Wayne and his crew. A friend recommended Wayne Andrew last year. We had recently purchased and renovated our house and had turned our attention to the outside. We went through a number of landscapers but were never satisfied. My husband and I are very picky and had a clear sense of what we wanted and were looking for someone who was a creative professional who could really understand what we were looking for and make it happen. Enter Wayne! Wayne and his son took over the project, correcting mistakes, installing new plants and maintaining the look. Wayne and his son were also able to add landscape lights when all the other landscapers said it couldn't be done! We love the landscape and enjoy every minute of it. PLEASE READ UPDATE AT END: After completing a major home remodel with a room addition, it was time to invest in new patios, patio cover, landscaping, landscape lighting and irrigation. Enter Andrew Landscape!! We did our research and decided to go with Wayne and his crew. They handled every detail from start to finish so we didn't have to worry about anything. They handled all the demolition of old concrete and patio, regrading, forming for new concrete slabs and walkways, trenching and installation of new irrigation system to cover all of our 1.5 acres, installation of new plants and rolling out the sod for the new lawn, planning and installation of paver lined decomposed granite walkways in the gardens and even did the trenching for our plumbers to run new water, gas and electrical between the house and detached garage. They stand by their work and even replaced a large section of sod that didn't make it through this past summers extreme heat spell we had. Bottom line I highly recommend Andrew Landscape for your next project no matter how large or small. UPDATE 6-27-19 One major challenge we have experienced throughout the whole process has been lack of communication and follow up. While they did replace lawn that died, we have been trying for almost a year to get them to replace some plants that died to no avail. Only broken promises of calls or visits. After numerous attempts our last communication was on 3-31-19 with a promise to call me the next week, I'm still waiting Wayne. While all seemed well when I first posted my review, I must reduce from 5 stars to 2 due to their lack of follow up. If you do contract with them, be cautious of their promises. read more

Met with Wayne to review our backyard project and had a great first impression. He was professional knowledgeable. We were looking forward to receiving his estimate and suggestions for our project. At the end of the meeting he stated we should have an estimate in a "few days." After a week went by, I had to initiate an email asking for an update. Was told: "...will get a cost to you soon. I haven't had the office time due to our work load." I can certainly appreciate being busy, that is a good thing. However, over two weeks have now gone by and there has been no follow-up communication made by Wayne or anyone else at Andrew Landscaping; even after I emailed a second time. This is simply unprofessional. If you don't want my project, be honest and forthright rather than ignoring me. That form of honest professionalism would have garnered a much higher review. read more

After 25 years living in the same Claremont house, we needed to repair, replace or renovate nearly every outdoor feature. The bid prepared by Andrew Landscape was submitted after meeting three times to discuss the desired scope of work. Measurements were rechecked. Costs were broken out with significant detail, allowing us to consider both budget priorities and alternative approaches, such as using a mix of pavers and concrete for the driveways. A major goal was extending the use of Mexican colonial architectural touches already dominant inside the house. The project included: (1) replacing nearly 3,000 sq ft of badly broken concrete driveways, (2) expanding the patio and pool deck, with new overhead lighting, wrought iron fencing and gate, (3) re-plastering the pool and spa and installing new water-line tile, (4) constructing new retaining walls, (5) building a tiled fountain around a 19th century Italian giare, (6) replacing irrigation system, lawn and shrubs with southern California native plants, and (7) installing low-voltage pool and path lights. The proposal developed by Wayne Andrew established a clear timeline, with payments scheduled as work was completed and accepted. The contractor pulled a city construction permit and ensured that all work met expected standards. Sub-contractors brought into the project were experienced and very attentive to achieving our goals. This proved particularly important with the water feature and pool tiling as we significantly re-shaped the final version of both during the course of the work. Although we requested a half-dozen changes over the three-month construction calendar, labor costs increased by only one percent. What a triumph! The design expertise, supervision and skill Wayne brought in planning, staging and completing this project has been exceptional. 4 years ago I completely redesigned my 2,000 square foot front yard. Now, 4 years later, the city knocks on my door saying there are several items not up to code that need to be pulled out and replaced. Enter my hero, Wayne Andrew! I cannot tell you how much I wish I found Wayne 4 years ago when I was getting bids for my yard. Wayne showed up on time for our first meeting to give me a bid. (most landscapers can't even get past that step) He offered great suggestions, and a fair price. His workers were friendly, professional, and they finished so quickly!! Wayne told me their schedule would be open in 2-3 weeks, but he had some other jobs move around and he ended up completing my job just 6 days later!! I am so, so, so happy I found him. Well, let's see, where do I start. We found Wayne in the Yellow pages. We were redoing the front yard at the " Old House". We wanted to get 3 bids for the job...Well, lucky..for us, Wayne was the first to show. That was about 10 years ago I guess. Since then, we moved into the new house in 2002, and once again called Wayne for the back and front yard landscaping. This Guy is GREAT. Even after finishing the yard, a couple years later, we decided to put in a pool. After the pool was done, Wayne n crew, made the pond bigger n better, put in a GREAT BBQ island, lights and plants. In the last couple of years, we did an addition to the house, which tore up the side yard. Once I've collected enough cans and bottles, Wayne and Tyson will finish this part off too. I have a smile on my face each time I walk outside. Andrew Landscaping put in a beautiful flagstone stairway and lighted railing for my backyard. They also put in a planter and flowers to border it. Sept. 4, 2016 It saddens me to write this negative review of Wayne & Tyson Andrew of Andrew Landscape Construction. In 2008 they did a beautiful job of landscaping our small entryway. They are very artistic & we were extremely pleased. Knowing this, Wayne asked me to write a review on Yelp. I told him I do not go on any kind of social or professional websites but for him I would. This is my second time on one such website. We called Wayne & Tyson again in 2014 to re-landscape our back yard with drought-tolerant, low maintenance plants/shrubs as we are gone for extended periods of time. Knowing this, they put a landscaping fabric for weed control on the ground first, & then rocks (MANY, MANY rocks!) or wood chips on top pf the fabric. The fabric was also required by the city of Riverside if you wanted the rebate. The fabric & rocks went right up to the base of the 75 new plants, plus our old pre-existing shrubs. They put in a drip system with emitters, which also were buried under the rocks & sometimes the fabric. Because of this, as time progressed, we realized we could not check the emitters to see if they were working. Within the first year, all the flax, all the statice plants, many day lilies, & 1 grevillea died. We contacted them numerous times (& sent pictures) to get them out to help us or give us ideas on how to proceed. Either we were "making too much out of it" or they were "working out-of-town but would stop by." Seeing that it was up to us to figure it out, in the past 2 years we have spent COUNTLESS hours in our "low maintenance" back yard, crawling around on our hands & knees, removing rocks & cutting tough fabric away from the plants with a box cutter, initially to find the emitters to check if they were working. If emitters were working & plants still dying, we realized we then had to check the soil to see if it was getting too much water or too little. This involved more crawling around & removing MANY MORE rocks in a wide swath around the base of the plants & cutting away the fabric - from both old, pre-existing shrubs & the new ones. That's when we were stunned to discover the condition of the soil underneath the fabric: hard, compacted, cracked, & white, sometimes saturated & with deep holes (usually on the side where the emitter was), sometimes bone dry. Many of the plants had their roots on the surface, under the fabric, instead of going down into the ground. Some of the roots had rotted. Many had their roots exposed because of depressions & holes in the soil. Sometimes the plant had grown right into the fabric. Google "Use of landscaping fabric & rocks around the base of plants." It is almost all negative & describes exactly what we found underneath the fabric. We then went through bags of top/potting soiling, packing the holes & filling in the depressions at the bases of the plants. Essentially we had to un-do & then re-do much of their landscaping. (Might I add we both are in our seventies). Our gardener even raised his fee because of the difficulty & increased time he spends in cleaning up leaves & his hedge clippings from the rocks & wood chips in our "Low Maintenance" back yard. I vacillate between being mad & hurt. We got to know Wayne & Tyson, having had them for 2 landscaping jobs. We considered them friends. Although we spent a lot of money, they did work hard, so much so that we split half of our $3,000 rebate with them. I am so disappointed in their seemingly lack of concern for our plight. Had Wayne informed us that this is what we would have discovered under the fabric, NEVER would we have let them use it, rebate or not. And if they had taken just a little bit of time to come over in the past 2 years, to at least see for themselves, what we are contending with, I wouldn't be writing this. They are good at visualizing design but I cannot recommend them for the reasons above. They will do their job, but once it is done & you have paid them, don't count on them being back if the need arises, especially if they are busy & there are serious, time-consuming mistakes to be corrected. And don't EVER put landscaping fabric & rocks around the base of plants (especially the fabric)! read more

Just had a run in with "Andrew" (said he owns the company) cutting me off with his trailer in a parking lot (I had the right of way) as he was coming from a side area where parking spots were, when I honked at him he continued to back up and hit my vehicle (tire) with his trailer, when I got out to take a picture of the license plate and trailer plate, he proceeded to get out of his vehicle and attempt to intimidate me by coming after me for which I had to run to the other side of my vehicle while a bystander called the police, also calling me derogatory names, guess it made him feel more like a man. If he can treat a fellow driver like this when he was clearly in the wrong, I can't imagine how he would treat a client who disagrees with his landscaping. He's a very angry and demeaning person who has a lot of road rage and left the scene of an accident which shows he also doesn't take responsibility for his actions. read more

Wayne Andrew & his son, Tyson, re-landscaped our entryway/atrium in Feb. 2008. We loved it! Having been in our home for 35 years, we have had a LOT of remodeling projects over those years. But the entryway was one of the best ones we did in those 35 years. And we are picky! Wayne had done an entryway at a home at the end of our block. Whenever we & our friends drove by, we would comment on how nice it looked, how unique it was, & how much it added to their home. We finally stopped by one day to ask who did it. That was how we found Wayne; we saw his work & knew what he was capable of doing. For our project, he tore up the existing walkway & came up with a new design for the entryway & suggested a stone to use. Neither the design nor the stone would we have thought of or chosen without his guidance. He is very frank about telling you whether he thinks something will work or not, which we appreciated. He also re-did & used part of our old gate, suggested new lighting, re-did the sprinkler system, & planted low maintenance plants. His son Tyson, who has an eye for color, suggested painting the 3 small walls enclosing the entryway a red (in an otherwise neutral-painted exterior). Initially I was horrified! But we tried it & it became the piece de résistance to show off our new wood door. We have heard comments like, "Oh it's like your own private sanctuary," "It's like another room," etc. It gives us such joy looking at it every day! Obviously we can't say enough about Wayne & Tyson. Besides being competent, knowledgeable, & skilled, they are laid-back, nice, & willing to put up with my zany sense of humor! Can't thank them enough for making my ambiguous vision a reality. This company came to my house on Monday February 22, 2016 for an estimate. We were told we'd have an email with an estimate by the end of the week. Going on 3 weeks now we have not received any email... I emailed wayne@andrewlandscape.com after a week had gone by and the message was not deliverable to that email address. I've called numerous times over the past few weeks, probably about 10 times (during normal business hours) and no one has answered even once. If one can't get a hold of you or get a simple estimate how can I rely on you to follow up on a project? I can't, not a good way to give confidence to potential customers. read more

I chose them from a group of landscapers in 2007 to create something beautiful and sustainable out of the large amount of dirt surrounding our new home. I find them to be consistently responsive to my requests for assistance on a new project or on a old one, very reliable, reasonable on price, friendly and professional. They are willing to discuss ideas and work with you. They are excel at design, but not so stuck on their ideas that they will not entertain your ideas. They not only create a landscape plan, but they do a lot of the work themselves along with 2 or 3 other people who work for them. They know good people in the related trades to call upon for additional work if necessary. Over the years, they have come to our home numerous times to advise, repair, and provide help. Due to the drought and a city tree in our yard whose roots destroyed the little grass that the lack of water had not already taken from us it was time to start again. The city removed the tree and left us with a dirt yard and some existing (not very exciting) shrubbery. We contacted Wayne and Tyson Andrew from Andrew Landscape to come to the rescue for us and take our wasteland of a yard and turn it into something my husband, two boys, and I could enjoy. We were able to meet Wayne and his wife Kristi as they took measurements of our yard to create a design for what our yard could one day look like. The design was shown to us within two days, and I could feel my heart already beating anxiously to see this dream design come to fruition. The crew came quickly and within hours tore out what was remaining of the disaster we called a yard, they graded and laid out the walkway of the path all in the first day. Next the pavers went down to mark out the boundaries of the walkway, then decomposed granite "DG" went down for the pathway. When the plants were added we were already blown away with the transformation, they provided us with water-wise plants that are on a drip system. Also a manageable amount of grass that our boys can play on and add some more greenery to the equation will be going in next and we cannot contain our excitement, hence, writing a post already. Their professionalism and creativity to turn what we had into something we enjoy has been amazing. I could not recommend anyone more than I do Andrew Landscape.
