In my opinion, it seems like simple knowledge. I live in Placentia so OC contractors can be a bit outrageous and try to take advantage of you if you have no knowledge of construction. Tony came in and was honest from the start and didn't try to upsell anything. I built a 210 ft block wall around my house and didn't feel like doing the 4' x 80' retaining wall, but I knew what we're the steps and idea of cost. I had multiple quotes and Tony came in at the best price, as we were going through the job. The wife of course wanted to make some changes and Tony was very patient with us. Had the pleasure of working with Tony and his crew for about 3 weeks for our backyard and front yard remodel. We removed a lot of grass and plant roots and had them install landscaping rocks and turf. Tony's team works very hard and is very consistent with their hard work. We hired Tony to convert our side yard into a 52' x 33' basketball court, and we couldn't be happier with the experience or the outcome! Tony replied to my Yelp message quickly, and came within a few days to give an estimate. We had an estimate in hand before he left. We signed a contract a few days later and he started the same week. We elected to have Tony remove all the grass and sprinklers on that side and install artificial turf around the new court. He installed curbing around our existing planter beds, converted those sprinklers to bubblers, fixed a drain issue in our existing concrete patio, and tended to a few other landscape upgrades for us. It was a large stained concrete pour and it looks fantastic. He was easy to work with and responded promptly to our questions. He kept us updated along the way. Hired Tony's team to install a garage drain since my area floods during the rain. I knew I had to finally get this installed since we are getting hit with el Nino this year. I told my hubby I didn't want to spend more than 3k on this project. Tony offered us a proposal that was def less than I expected. Within a week of getting a proposal, his team started work and got it done by lunch time the same day, with an 8am start. I also work remotely and these dudes were only loud for about an hour. I received a quote from Tony for some landscaping work. I appreciated that he came twice as we had made some changes in the plan and he gave us a fair quote and answered all my questions. He lowered the price if it was cash and agreed a slightly lower price based on doing grass at a later date. The total was 23k. I was ready to get started with him and emailed him on August 10, texted him on August 12 and again emailed on August 13 without a response. He messaged me on August 16 responding to my text. I included the screenshot below. While this doesn't't seem like a big project to him, it is to me and probably a lot of other people. I understand that he is busy and may not respond right way but his attitude is not what I want from someone working for me. I went with someone else and I would not recommend him to anyone. Tony did my backyard renovation. Below you'll find Pros, Cons, and What I would've done differently. First thing is first...Tony was great and I would hire him again for another project. Pros: Tony gets moving pretty fast to start. He was knowledgable about what everything would cost. He was able to sit down and draw up a realistic quote in about 15 minutes. He was very responsive for communication. He will figure out how to work with your ideas. Pulled permits, and did it right. Ultimately, TONY! He really seemed to care that I was happy. If I was questioning anything, he didn't hesitate to stop and take a new approach, or even redo work that was wrong due to miscommunication. My wife really needed a personal engagement with working on some sentimental parts of the project. He was honest, patient, and personable. After completed, there were a few things that needed to be readdressed. Tony either came back himself or sent a crewman over to fix the problem quickly. He even had to add another sprinkler cycle because of a miscalculation. All of it to make sure I was a happy customer. Very reasonable $$$ Cons: Tony has a lot of jobs going on. He has different crews working different projects. Sometimes the crew for the specific job isn't available and the project slows to a halt sometimes a week or two. Some crews were awesome, and some were slow, lazy, and flat out bad at their job. This is par for the course with contractors, but some guys were just clueless. I called them the oopty-doop crew. When Tony is not there, the oopty-doops don't do much, they are slow, messy, and will use anything you leave around as a tool because they are too lazy to get the proper tool out of their truck (like using my pool brush to clean spilled paint on pavers). His other crews are resourceful, knowledgable, responsive, and hard-working. Make sure you know who is who, because some babysitting is in order for the oopty-doops. I would've like to seen better care taken of the freshly poured sports court. The OSB put down to protect the concrete from the tractor stained the new concrete. What would I do differently: Hire a designer. Tony is not a designer. He will do exactly what you ask of him, and do it properly. But if you are looking for design help, that is not what he does. I should have brought in a designer to think of everything before we started. There were so many things that we had to change, on the fly. Drainage, a design that looked good on paper but not in practice, plants, and irrigation, to name a few. We almost doubled our initial quote after adding so many things. A designer would've made it easier on both Tony and us. It's been about a year since the project started. We added lots of extra work (noted above) which extended the project another 6-8 weeks. Everything still looks beautiful. The sand put in as grout for pavers didn't last long. I have to do some homework to find out how to make that more permanent. All of the plants have their own irrigation. One of our boxwood plants died. I have not yet investigated irrigation as possible problem, but will have to replant one. We are still excited to sit in our backyard while entertaining, or just sit and watch the kids play. read more

This time we had a complete blank state and needed concrete and sod. Tony had a poor attitude during the estimate. He arrived 40 min late but did let me know this about 30 min ahead of the original scheduled time. Instead of knocking on the door when he arrived, he text my phone and missed the text. My father noticed a man in the corner of my home because he triggered the surveillance camera and was concerned. Tony was defensive was very defensive and acted sketch. L No one was treated disrespectfully, though he himself was curt. I wish Tony had more understanding about the safety and security of home residents -especially in todays world. Tony is a very busy man! He needs an assistant to take care most of his calls and appointments so he can concentrate running the business. He is honest, he will give you what's best for your money and easy going. Wish we didn't run into a lot of issues (most were taken care of) but I'll still consider him for a future project. His response to me is they don't work on doors. I should've told him I didn't take the side gate down his crew did so I expect it to go back the same way. - crew didn't clean until their last day. I had to sweep my driveway everyday when they leave as well as pick up their trash. - sprinklers didn't work after they left but Tony came back to fix it. Come to find out his crew didn't wire it correctly. - HOA paperwork, they didn't receive it I had to get involved and also had to make changes on the drawings myself. - left some drains uncapped including the electrical conduit run. read more

I've gotten a few estimates from different contractors and decided to go with Tony because he got fairest price, he sounds very honest, and trustworthy. He took his time on the job which I like since there are little things change along the way, and he was able to accommodate that. From my experience, cheapest guys tend to cut corner and leave a mess, more expensive guys try to sell you his big bond and insurance however the actual work is not related. Be fair to him, he will be fair to you period. His guys do hard works, and we should be fair to his team. The contract could be more details, I was worried at first about the contract but Tony delivered everything he said he would when we went over it during the estimate.
