My doctor suggested that I try physical therapy to help improve my symptoms. I was very skeptical at first - after all I went from being a very active person to not even being able to walk for 5 minutes without symptoms. But, I gave it a shot. Now, after 9 months or so of PT, I'm back to walking 10k steps without symptoms and am getting back on my Peloton bike after years of not being able to!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the POTS program to anyone suffering with this illness. Sarah is kind, patient, upbeat, understanding, and a constant cheerleader. Mike, the owner, was almost 10 minutes late for our first session. Second session, he reviewed and manipulated very little then, he had to "move some things", left with a dolly and I didn't see him for easily 25-30 minutes. Third session, he also reviewed and did very little manipulation, but then again I was on my own. I left when time was up with no closure from Mike because he was working with another patient. Each time I was there, Mike told me that the way I walk was causing my ortho problems and he imitated me in an exaggerated way that wasn't helpful in my understanding the problem and figuring out how to improve it. Got to my appointment and she only helped me with one exercise that was nominal and did nothing for me. She took maybe 10 minutes with me about my issue. The rest of the hour we talked about personal things about her family and mine that were similar. She was very friendly, no problems there. She finally said that she really couldn't do much more. I could come back for two more sessions that would not be for an hour, but as I recall, she was still going to charge me for an hour and said she didn't know if it would help much. She referred me to a surgeon. I gave up on going to another Physical Therapist (PT) for 10 months. I figured it was a waste of time. I finally went to another one and within five minutes he gave me exercises that were phenomenal. Within two days I was seeing improvement. I no longer have any pain and I have phenomenal movement. The costs are extremely high. Like other reviews have said, they are dreadful about insurance, they are not informative about insurance, and even though they don't accept insurance, they are not very helpful about it. They are rude about it also. They do not explain things well at all. If you ask questions, they get irritated. I wish I had seen some of these reviews before I went. They were referred to me by someone who thought they could be helpful. Look elsewhere for your PT needs.

This key fact was misrepresented by front office staff, who said that if I paid more than the cash rate ($165 vs. $125), I would get an invoice with codes which could be processed by insurance: a statement then denied by BDI management. This facility was recommended by my orthopedic surgeon who claimed that their outcomes were superior and failed to mention the cash aspect. Well, their outcomes were no better for me and I am also now $1,250 in the hole, before I pulled the plug. I have protested strongly to my surgeon, warning him to fully disclose all facts before recommending this facility to his patients. Overall, it has left a bad taste and hence this warning to others, lest they suffer the same fate.

In October 2024 I had total knee replacement surgery (TKR). This surgery is a traumatic surgery and for some can be grueling mentally, physically, and emotionally. One major component that played a huge role in my surgery is both pre and post physical therapy. I have always believed that PT is crucial for major surgery recovery and I treat PT like a job that I want to succeed in. Why Pre-Surgery PT before a TKR? Everyone knows to be healthy and in good condition before TKR. Pre-Surgery gets your knee stronger, period end of story. Rachel was able to take measurements, we worked my quad and all aspects of the leg. I would highly recommend investing in pre-surgery PT as it will help with post-surgery recovery. Why Post TKR Surgery PT? Well, it's simple, after surgery they have you 'walk' and you can 'walk' because you have a nerve block and can't feel a thing - literally nothing. They just want to make sure the knee can move before you leave the surgical center. Once that nerve block wears off the 'fun' begins. There will be pain (for some severe), bruising, possible lack of sleep due to pain, possible constipation because of the narcotics, and overall it's a great time. My top three things that have got me through the first few weeks: My ice machine, a strong support system, and PT. You literally can't bend or straighten the leg. As soon as you can, go to PT. For me it has been so important and working with Rachel and doing my exercises at home have really helped. You'll see slow progress but stick with it. Rachel, thank you for your support, for pushing me just enough, for listening to me with caring ears, for being my cheerleader, and for being so dedicated to your profession.

John did an excellent job not only helping me rebuild strength and mobility, but also helping me overcome my fear of re-injury - he had a real knack for recognizing when I was ready to confront a challenge I found anxiety-provoking (e.g., walking up a grassy slope), and when I needed a little time before tackling the next one. As we wrapped up my course of PT, John also walked me through more challenging variations of the exercises we had been doing, which was so valuable for continuing to build on all the progress I had made. Should I ever find myself in need of PT again in the future, I will head right back to Focus.
