I arrive ten minutes early to my appointment, the receptionist was really sweet and gave me paperwork to fill out. Five minutes later, the door next to receptionist opened, and there was Andrew with one of his patient. He acknowledged me right away and told me he would be with me within five minutes. Once his patient left, we discussed what I wanted him to work on. By this time, fifteen minutes had passed. I make it a habit to watch the times when getting massages because so many masseuses will try to end early. So my knots are very hard, stubborn, old, and very ingrained. I've gone to numerous masseuses to work on them, and they are always surprised about how tough my knots are. Andrew was no different, he commented on how stubborn they were and got to work. Andrew massages are intense; he was actually surprised that the pain wasn't bothering me. The left side of my body has more stubborn knots than the right side, on the left aide I could feel Andrew trying to loosen them and even getting frustrated that he couldn't. He worked more on the right side then the left. He talked the whole time, which I didn't mind, and before I knew it, he said," oh, it's 3:45, we are done", and he abruptly stopped. He then walked out. I was very annoyed after he left, due to his own doing we started late, I didn't get the full hour, and massages aren't suppose to suddenly stop, it's common standard to gently and easily ease into ending the massage. I paid him, thanked him, tipped him and he explained the many different rates and packages he offered. As I was leaving, I noticed that my right side felt better, but the left was hurting because he hadn't spent as much time on it as the right. So to recap: Pros * clean office * convenient location * very deep massage Cons * started fifteen minutes late * I didn't get my full hour * the massage wasn't properly ended * left side didn't get the work it needed. I debated whether or not to go back, ultimately the fact that I didn't get my full hour, to this day annoys me and that alone made my decision to never go back. He is very nice and gentle and knows what he's doing. I explained to him where I had pain/discomfort, he then explained the process and walked out of the room so that I could get comfortable and lay on the bed. As soon as he came back in, he started to work his magic. As he was feeling the areas I highlighted, it's like he was speaking directly with my muscles - he just knew what to do. The massage was a bit rough at times but honestly, that's how I prefer them (I'm not into the "relaxing" massages). When it was time to insert the needles, he explained exactly what he was doing and kept checking in on me to measure my comfort level. One of the initial things I noticed was how at ease I felt when I first arrived. I typically have severe anxiety especially the first visit of a medical treatment so the fact I had just power walked almost two miles in crowds of people on my way to an initial acupuncture visit and felt as relaxed as I did is some kinda amazing. Second when it comes to acupuncture I'm a little particular to say the least. I typically don't feel like I benefit unless the practitioner is a "sadist" Every therapist is unique but in the past I've either had seemingly pointless needles (te he) in my skin or aggressive full on radiating shockwaves. This was an entirely new experience. I had stated my preference on releasing qi which tends to be slightly more painful than basic acu points. His technic was very different from any past treatments. I was able to feel the circulation from points he was working on just without the pain I typically associate with stronger needling. To the contrary it was actually such a relaxing session by the end I was definitely asleep Another first for me. The downside to being half comatose is trying to pay. I was impressed I was able to still do math in that state but apparently my bills had stuck together and I wasn't paying (te he) attention.
