I am not totally sure what was even going on, but before I went to Ophra my stomach was sore to the touch.

Jerry is amazing!…read more After moving and sleeping in an air mattress for two days, I came in for a 30 minute massage with Jerry. He right away felt the tension in my upper back and the message was perfect. Highly recommend him and I'll definitely be back!

Thanks to Joy G. (and Yelp) for the tip! I never would've found this place on my own, tucked away…read moreas it is under a stoop in the basement of a residential building. It looks a little shady from outside, quite frankly, but inside, the space is pleasant, the massage tables impeccably clean. You can, indeed, hear all the goings on in the adjoining rooms, as Joy noted, but luckily on my visit, there wasn't anything too loud or distracting going on. They seem to have good COVID procedures in place: Everyone gets a temperature check before coming in, a squirt of hand sanitizer, and their shoes spritzed with disinfectant. Staff and customers remain masked at all times. My massage therapist, Michelle, was excellent -- more akin to a medical professional than a spa employee. Like every other office grunt in NYC, I sit a lot and my back / shoulders are a disaster. I also do a lot of kid lifting (this should be an Olympic event) and recently started taking taekwondo classes, which are beating the crud out of me -- in a good way. Her technique was almost painfully hard, but magically kneaded out the kinks and qi blockages. Yep, an hour lying on your belly does leave you looking like you've spent the last hour sobbing, with or without contacts in. (I don't wear contacts or glasses because, according to my parents, I never studied hard enough. ;) So bring shades and an extra mask in case you relax so much you drool. Pricing is ridiculously inexpensive: $48 for 61 minutes! And yes, it is sixty-ONE minutes. Maybe it's a numerology thing.

Since the billboard they have upfront was a little vague, I decided to walk in with my sister to ask them about their services. Once entering, we had to climb a long staircase, in which we were immediately stopped before we got close to the door. The woman ( who didn't greet us by the way) yelled something to someone in an Asian language, then claimed that they were really busy and couldn't attend to us. I caught a peek through the door, and the waiting area was empty! We were there at 7pm and this business closes at 10pm. Why couldn't we wait inside??? This lady was really rude and I got a vibe that she was being discriminatory! Its really offensive and disturbing that people like this own businesses and in NYC to make matters worse!!! My review isn't about their service, since I wasn't even let in the door. My review is about their lack of customer service and decency! Thank God for sites like Yelp, otherwise no one would know about this. * I tried to find this business on Yelp, but I couldn't find it (probably for a reason). If I do find it, I will add this there too! I wish I could take my 1 star away :-(

I've also been wanting to try Solidcore back at home, so it worked out that I got to try Solidcore for my drop-in visit. I noticed that the studio was minimal. They didn't appear to sell any merch, water, or even grip socks (I forgot mine). That being said, i was informed that I could use the megareformer with barefeet. I was relieved that I wasn't going to be denied for class! I noticed that was actually a common practice, unlike my home studio that requires grip socks during class. The Solidcore space reminded me a lot like how Soul Cycle is. Dimly lit, music bumping, basically working out in a club. I'm here for it. I took Marcus' 11:15am full body class, and it was fantastic. He was such a great instructor and helped to encourage deeper or more challenging movements by adjusting my form. I also appreciated him spending the time to go over how their megareformers worked. Only major difference I saw was the location of the springs on the machine, but I also thought it was cool how the resistance of the springs were recommended based on how far along you are in your Solidcore practice.

Never have I come across a fitness center that charges you to put your membership on pause or charges you for another month of membership even if you can't attend the classes because they want at least 30 days notice prior to cancellation. They also charge you for individual class cancellations if they were made 10-12 hours before the start of class as well as no shows... in any case, they should be grateful if that happened because it makes room for another to sign up. It's really off-putting and it shows that they are money-hungry without any consideration for their members. Things could come up in the last minute and not everyone is in the city full time. So the wellness aspect of this fitness center is pretty much lacking... I initially wanted to pause my membership for a few months and they said there's a fee to pause membership which was a surprise and it made absolutely no sense to me. So I changed my mind and decided opt for cancellation. Then they came up with all sorts of excuses, from saying that I had signed a contract which I never did... to asking me to email them a copy of a doctor's note which I don't have because it's not medical related... I just want my membership cancelled because I found the fees to be unethical. I just don't like unethical and controlling practices and I tend to avoid them... end of story. And yes they ended up charging me for another month knowing that I wouldn't be attending and said that I can give it to my friends or family which was so wrong... I ended up calling the credit card company to reverse it.
