I may be a middle aged lawyer mom now living in South Pasadena but I used to live in West L.A. & know how to pick great hairdressers, makeup artists, etc. As background, I went to Anastasia when she had tiny shop on top of Juan Juan...Andrew was probably in elementary school then - so it was no surprise when Anastasia grew, went national and they picked Andrew as one of the national trainers & the person to do person appearances in Nordstrom for her line. His experience on TV shows, MAC paid off. I've learned all this by going to Andrew for the last 3 years. I've learned Andrew can do it all. So here are my experiences with him so you can see if he's right for you. 1. He did a brow workshop for women & I brought 3 BFFs all in our 40s or early 50s (African American and 3 Irish complexion including me). All my friends LOVED him and he made us all look amazing. And he served mimosas. Enough said. 2. My brows just on an intermittent basis since I get too overwhelmed to book regular which I should do. His brow job is an instant facelift [which I don't believe in...never do surgery unless you're prepared for worst possible result...I say this now - so Drew is my instant facelift] 3. I went to an 80s party and Andrew transformed me into Madonna with make-up and hair so that no one practically recognized me. When I walked in, people screamed "MADONNA!" His makeup also cut 20 years off my face, so that wasn't half bad - lol. He also did my husband for the event as Don Johnson - makeup/hair. My husband thinks he's awesome & he was a makeup virgin before he met Andrew - lol. 4. This week, at the very last minute, I asked him to assist at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) production of Sweeney Todd since they didn't have any pro makeup artists. My wonderful stepson had the lead & neither of us can do makeup worth a darn. Andrew volunteered his time and brought a wonderful makeup artist to assist him & gave a tutorial to 15 high school kids (for free) & did makeup for 2 of them to show them how and what to do; what to buy. It was a darn shame that THE arts high school didn't have this set up [but you know school budgets] and he stepped in. He helped teach one of the opera moms who's good with makeup but didn't know what/where to buy & he helped her so she could step in to do makeup. Then the next day, the cast begged me to get Andrew, he was so wonderful that he moved his schedule around and went there and in 1 1/2 hours, he did 2 of the principals - and it absolutely tied the show together. He did it again today...He taught the kids -- all amazing performers and singers -- that it's a team & that makeup artists transform & give unbelievable confidence and give the audience the reality to see the inner lives of the characters on the outside as well as through the performance. His prices for this were reasonable & he went to LACHSA & was amazing. And, the best part, he's a good guy. Hard working. If he says he'll be there at 9:30, he's half hour early. No drama. Professional in every sense of the word. So, in sum, if you are like me a professional woman, he knows what to do for the day to day stuff. If you want to get out of your comfort zone - he'll take you there. -- If you're in your 20s/30s and edgy - he can do it and take you there better than you ever thought. -- If you're a guy and want a perfect haircut - he does it wet or dry & helps with the eyebrows. -- For young women - proms/special events/weddings -- these are all natural to him. All his work on TV shows and high pressure situations make him amazingly calm. He inspires confidence. He is calm, sweet, funny and it makes me feel 20 years younger being around him. He's one of those guys who gets along great with the teenagers, the 20 somethings, people his age, professionals, actors/performers, straight or LGBT, the whitest white guys (like my husband) and women my age. He respects people and it shows. Parking is easy over there in Glendale. He also does house calls. And his website has an awesome booking service which lets you know prices and availability. I'm a fan but he deserves it and I've gone to him for 3 years. This review is overdue but what he did this week really inspired me. read more
