The price and timeline were reasonable. Jim showed up on the day he said he would and was done in by lunchtime, overall we are happy with the results. Just a couple of things that I was a little disappointed in. There was a lot of old caulking from the previous walls which was hard to remove. When Jim put the new caulk in for the new walls it mixed in with the old caulking so I cant get rid of it all. Also the plumber was supposed to look at the drain to make sure everything was working properly, Jim forgot to remind him and told me he called him but I have not heard from him

We visited many showrooms, including the most advertised on TV. We were excited by the designs offered, but a little taken back by the price. Jim and his Berkshire Bathworks crew were contacted and promptly arrived to assess our needs and give us a price. The price was competitive with the national chains. It was NOT a one day installation, but Jim was very forthcoming about the actual time frame for completion. Every question and concern we had was addressed. The time frame was off by a couple of weeks due to the special order of the glass shower enclosure. [It arrived with the installation holes on the wrong end of the glass, hey, it happens. The last time I made a mistake was 1957] Jim went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. The job is beautiful and a complete makeover. We are very happy with the outcome. One last thought, my wife fell and broke her hip two weeks ago. I called Jim on Tuesday, 01/01/19, about installing a grab bar in both bathrooms. He was here this morning, 01/03/19, and installed two new grab bars and would not take any compensation. He is a gentleman and a meticulous worker. I cannot recommend Berkshire Bathworks more highly. They are the best.

Addendum to my previous review of JRC Remodeling and the response to my initial comments by…read moreco-owner Barbara Roth. It is true that the water damage and mold remediation was not a part of the original contract; after all it could only be discovered during the demo phase of the work. When advised of the problem I agreed to pay - and did pay - an additional amount to remove and replace the moldy insulation and take other steps to kill the mold (i.e., bleach spray). The workers apparently did the remediation but forgot to put new insulation before closing up the wall and installing new counters, making the only way to fill the now hollow wall from the exterior which is a more complicated and expensive procedure. Joe Roth agreed to do this work - which was necessary only because of JRC's screw up - but despite repeated promises kept putting it off month after month for many months and well into cold weather. He finally told me that he wasn't going to do it after all and would not take my phone calls because, in his words, he thought I would yell at him. I suspect that he realized that his workers screw up was going to be costly to fix and that he wasn't about to bear the cost. He never asked me to pay for the remediation, which existed solely due to their mistake. I did bring in another contractor in December 2023 and had to bear a substantial cost for adding insulation. Mistakes happen but failure to take responsibility is a reason for avoiding using this firm.

Extremely unpleasant woman sitting at the register reading a book made it very clear that I was interrupting her day by asking about tools they might have for making dumplings. In a very condescending tone, she informed me that dumpling presses were out of stock for the next 4 months "everywhere". When I said I wasn't sure if I needed a press, but was there anything else they might have that could help me make dumplings, as my significant other and I would like to try making dumplings together, she looked as though I had asked an impossible question, and then let me know that the only way to make dumplings was to do it in a "family setting". She said, "That's what the Asian families do. They make them together as a family." Not having a 'family', I said My significant other and I were just looking to enjoy some time together and make some dumplings in a casual way, she said no, that isn't how it's done, and again started talking about how dumpling presses were out of stock until I just said never mind and left. I hated that experience. I don't see why she had to put such emphasis on the fact that I wasn't Asian and we aren't a big family or something. That made me feel horrible about myself.

His entire crew - everyone I had contact with, were exemplary - personable, friendly, pleasant to deal with, repsectful of our property. They always left things neat, clean and maximally livable at the end of each day, and their work was professional and meticulous. Steven was always quickly responsive whenever I contacted him with any question or problem. Dealings with money were completely transparent, with a detailed statement listing costs of materials, labor, and Steven's (quite reasonable) mark-up; for the quality of work, I felt it was all very fairly priced. An emergency arose in our basement the day of my very first consultation with Steven, and he sent his crew over the next day to take care of it, even before we had agreed on a contract for services. We had our work done during the pandemic, and though there were some inevitable delays in getting materials, we never felt our project was "put on hold" in favor of a larger or newer one. I have already confidently recommended Sacred Oak to friends and relatives looking to have work done in their homes. Richard Z.
