Warren Kitchen & Cutlery is the best cutlery and retail kitchen store in the Hudson Valley. I believe this place has more variety than any other kitchen store in the area including Different Drummer's Kitchen and Sur La Table in Albany. As the pictures display, they have a huge inventory of cutlery, carrying industry standard Dexter-Russells to Japanese Kikuichis to American Steelports. The owner, Richard, is also extremely knowledgeable about cutlery as well. If you find yourself in Rhinebeck, it's worth a stop. read more

This. Place. ROCKS. Seriously, just look at the knife wall in the picture I posted. Have you ever seen that many knives? That guy knows everything about knives, too. I bet that if pressed, he would have a lot of information on how to kill a man, very quickly. I bet he would take pleasure in gutting me. Just kidding. I hope. But Warren Kitchen isn't just about the knives. They have anything and everything you could ever want to cook with, and the prices are far better than those in the city (shocking, I know). We bought a sweet WÜSTHOF knife, an awesome oversized spatula, a brush that I plan to use to brush sauce on many a rib, and tongs for the steak flipping. I haven't been this excited since 1997. I was also THIS CLOSE to buying a tiny little pan that's perfect for cooking one egg. But then I realized I never cook just one egg, and the handle with an egg (with eyes, nose and mouth) wasn't reason enough to buy it. I'm kind of regretting that decision right now. read more

This is a totally cool store if you are a foodie or have a love of kitchen equipment and gadgets. I was there this afternoon and there were a lot of culinary students from the nearby Culinary Institute of America purchasing lots of exquisite knives, pots/pans, baking supplies you name it. An amazing amount of merchandise in a small amount of space. The vibe was really good, lots of young folks admiring kitchen equipment of all things but that's the great part, when you love what you do. Extremely impressed with the knife selections. I had no idea that MAC Pro was a respected knife brand, my FIL left us with a drawer full of MAC knives and now I plan to get them honed and sharpened for use again. I did not see my favorite Lion Sabatier or I may have missed it, but they have pretty much all the major German and Japanese brands covered and more. We spent close to half an hour and it could have easily been way longer for me if I wasn't under a time constraint. Really nice pastry supplies, cutters, tart pans, some very unusual and rather large gadgets I've never seen before. There was a long pole with a large sphere on it which I gathered might have been for spooling sugar? I think you will find just about everything you can imagine here. If I'm not mistaken, there is a carousel loaded with nothing but thermometers of every kind. You know what was the part that really blew the ball out of the ballpark for me? I was waiting in line with my heat diffuser and a wine corker. The customer before me had just forked over a boatload of moolah for what looked like a ton of prep pans. I felt a bit of a noob with my $12 worth of merchandise and was half-expecting the stink eye at the register ;) Well, the owner/cashier treated me equally as polite and professional as the customer before me. Now, that is the finest order of respect for its customers by Warren Kitchen & Cutlery.. It doesn't matter if you spend $2 or $2000, a customer is a customer, and if you treat them right you have yourself a loyal customer for life. read more

The only problem with Warren is that my house is not big enough to hold everything they sell. Fantastic selection of items for professional and home chefs alike. It's not a "fancy" chi-chi kitchen boutique - instead the emphasis is on high quality, durability and usefulness. They may not have every different brand of any given item... but they will have the BEST brands of any given item. After hearing my local kitchen/cutlery store in Hudson charged approximately $1/inch to sharpen knives (so I would have spend $33 and would have had to leave my knives at the store overnight), I drove to Rhinebeck to Warren Kitchen & Cutlery. They sharpened 5 knives for me in 15 minutes and charged a grand total of $7.50. But it doesn't end there. This place has one of the best selections of kitchenware and knives I've seen anywhere, at fair prices. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about his stock and the service is excellent. yes it is worth the drive if you live in the city. they have everything that you could want in one place. you dont have to wait for it to be special ordered. i guarantee you that if it has to do with cutlery they have it. global ceramic steel? check. wustof tourne knife? double check. peugeot s&p mills? in every variety that ive seen. they even carry those damn ceramic knives by kyocera that are only good for cutting fruit. it is impossible to call yourself a foodie, live in the nyma, and not have been to this restaurant. if you want to make a day of it get reservations at one of the culinary institute of americas student staffed restaurants. read more

CALL THEM BEFORE YOU GO ELSEWHERE because their webpage lists only some of their stock. I've gone here for knives, cookware, pastry tools, gadgets that help dice food (i.e., assist my arthritic hands), and 'simmer mats' that I use 360 days/year. (If you don't know what one is, look it up and buy 2). Their knife assortment is HUGE. I wanted an item not noted on their site. But I love this store because the staff knows their business & is helpful, it's locally owned, and they have tons of cool things. So I called to ask if they had something to help me brew java over a fire, and they have tons of choices that'll work (from $4 to $100). Some of the prices are higher than box stores, but their quality is much better. And my campfire coffee was wonderful (for $4)! read more
