Considering knee replacement, I made an appt. with Dr. Andrew Yun in the Beverly Hills office of Keck Medicine. Appointment at 10 am. I arrived at 9:50. The Dr. came into the consult room two hours later at 12 noon. In the interim, several PAs took information from me, one repeating the other. The last one began palpating my knee and then kept her finger pressed firmly on the painful area until I asked her to remove it. She said I would be a candidate for a partial knee replacement. She also noted - in a surgeon's office for possible surgery - I might be living now with a "sore knee". Seriously? When he finally showed up, no introduction, no apology for a 2 hour wait, he began orating at me. When I attempted to ask reasonable questions, I was met with dismissiveness. But he had made sure to wear a clinical coat with his name and HARVARD prominently embroidered on the breast, just in case anyone asked. He contradicted the information I had received from 3 previous orthopedists, practically sniffing at the absurdity of my questions about what I had been told. And contradicting his own assistant, announced that I needed a full knee replacement, but I could live with it for now. Bye Keck. The outcome of my right hip replacement 9 months ago exceeded my expectation. Dr. Yun is the GOAT. I would like to pay my utmost compliment also to Jerick Racela (office manager), Andrew Savage, Jason (PA) and Justin (scheduling) for going out of their way to answer my questions and taking care of all my needs so I did not need to follow up with someone else - before and after the procedure. They're super competent, empathetic, and responsive. First issue is his verbal communication. English is not his native language. He can come off as rude, dis- respectful with areogance, and has the highest opinion possible of himself. He'll tell you so himself. it's a shame that with increasing practice size also comes the inflated and opinion of oneself. his bedside manager is not good in my opinion. and you'll never find a doctor spending less time per patient for aftercare then this guy. do your research do your homework and find another orthopedic surgeon for your needs. Ten years ago I had a right hip replacement. I had been referred to Dr. Yun as being the best , "state of the art" doctor for these procedures. He did not disappoint. I was in and out of the hospital in a day and a half and the operation was a total success. Recently, I returned to have the left hip replaced. This procedure was done out at Arcadia Hospital. Again, great service, attention to patient needs and follow up Dr. Yun has an executive assistant named "Jason" and he is, again, the best. Wow! Amazing care. Fantastic surgery with great outcome on left knee replacement. The following year, I pulled something in my right knee. Three days later, I had 105 fever and was in agony. My sister rushed me to Dr. Yun and he met me in the front Office. He immediately arranged for me to be admitted to St. John Hospital. Within a couple of hours, I had the first of 3 surgeries to deal with my septic knee. He saved my life. Having put off hip replacement surgery for 2 years, when my quality of life was so adversely affected, I knew it was time. Dr. Yun was suggested to me by my trusted Rheumatologist and Physical Therapist. Not only is Dr. Yun the best in his field, everyone that works with him maintains his high standard. Once my x-rays were taken and it was confirmed that I was a hip replacement candidate, I did not have to wait months to schedule my surgery - a huge plus. Post-op meds were called into my pharmacy of choice, and in-home PT was arranged as well, all through Dr. Yun's office. I had 2 hip replacements with him , at 2 different hospitals. St John's and USC Arcadia. The replacements went smoothly but the hospital care at USC was very bad. I was an outpatient at both hospitals. I wish he didn't move to USC. Anyone has replacement with Dr Yun, read the binder, because USC didn't explain anything about the medication to me. PT at USC was pretty bad too, just made you walk and nothing else. Dr Yun is a 5 stars but USC Arcadia is a one star. read more

It has been one year since Dr. Yun replaced my left knee. My knee continues to be painful and numb and feel like an artificial limb. The day of my surgery, Dr. Yun had 14 total knee replacements scheduled. In order to sustain that pace, he depends on his surgical assistants who are PAs (Physician Assistant). He is responsible for their work, which he does not oversee in its entirety. Although my joint was well-placed robotically, the soft tissue component of the surgery was largely ignored. Careful retraction of soft tissue structures (nerves, tendons, arteries, and veins) matters. Careful closure of the wound (capsule, subcutaneous tissue, and skin) matters. I know this because I am a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon. In my case, bulky suture material that I was allergic to and that was part of my medical record, was used in haste or inattention causing adhesions, nerve entrapment, limitation of motion, pain, and deformity requiring multiple sympathetic nerve blocks to alleviate pain. The unsuccessful surgical outcome in my case was avoidable but not surprising given the number of scheduled surgeries and the pressure the entire surgical team was under. read more

New knee! Not a nice thought after several surgeries in that same knee. Upon input from a couple of friends I secured a consultation with Dr. Yun, and I was very, very happy with all parts of it. I had questions, and Dr. Yun had answers to every single one of them. Scheduling of surgery was a snap, and I found that Dr. Yun's team performed very impressively throughout. Like Dr. Yun himself, all team members are highly professional and know what they are doing. A miserable experience. I had seen the doctor in consideration of a knee replacement. To the point, he runs his practice like a mill. Rather than treating the patient, he had a one size fits all approach. Same procedure, same prescribed medication- it's the same for everyone. When his protocol was not suitable for my condition, he sent me to a pain management specialist to developed a plan for post operative care. The problem was that the doctors he sent me to did not offer the services that I was sent there for. I was told Yun had been advised that what he was doing was wrong, but, apparently he doesn't care and still refers patients out which is, and was, a tremendous waste of time and money. I would not recommend Yun. His ego is astronomical and unless you fit his mold, or do not advocate for your needs, you are rolling the dice with a very serious procedure. I wish I hadn't wasted my time with the guy. There are much better and caring physicians available. read more

If you're looking for Dr. Joe Gannon or Dr. Welby, with the kind eyes and the house calls, go someplace else. That is NOT Andrew Yun. My first appointment with Dr. Yun, in June 2019, was after a lifetime of knee problems and a procedure I had 45 years ago that, of course, they don't do anymore. I was bone-on-bone, I had old hardware in the knee, and I was out of alignment, which Dr. Yun pointed out as he watched me walk down the hall to his examining room. The pain was off the charts, I was almost completely immobile, and I was out of options. He was no-nonsense, explained that when I am ready he will replace the joint, realign the knee and I'll be good to go. He told me that under my present condition, recovery would be HARD. He wasn't kidding. He gives you a notebook with detailed descriptions of what he'll do, an option to attend a 'knee class' and rules and expectations for recovery, which is NOT easy. I had my knee replacement in September 2019, and it being my 3rd knee surgery, it was rough--not the worst, but rough. I'm also in my late 50s and too heavy. Having said that, my very worst day post surgery was heaven compared to my best day since early 2017, when I fell and broke my back and really tweaked an already messed up knee. I do not have 100% mobility, but that is partially on me, and partially my condition before surgery (walking on a mis-alligned knee over time screws up a lot of other things). I could go on and on about the psychology of traumatic injury and how your brain tells you that if you just stay still it'll never happen again. That is the rub. PT is essential, and it will hurt. A lot. A LOT. I was on my feet an hour or so after surgery to go to the bathroom, had my first walk down the hall that night, and practiced going up and down the stairs the next morning--a requirement if you have stairs in your home, before they'll discharge you. They put you in an ortho ward in the hospital so the nurses are only caring for knee and hip patients. It also helps with keeping infection at bay (all the nurses say that Dr. Yun's patients have the best outcomes post surgery, and they told me this without me asking). His anesthesiologist will offer an option for pain management that requires a catheter in the leg prior to going under that releases meds into the knee, and lasts for about 5 days. As gross as that sounds, TAKE IT!!! I'm telling you it helps. Dr. Yun likes oxy, and you should not hesitate to fill that prescription. The idea scared the hell out of me as I do NO meds, nothing. Ever. Maybe advil. The few pain meds I tried that took the edge off in the months before surgery, I thought would be adequate. Boy was I wrong. The visiting nurse schooled me and the rest of my recovery was miraculous. You're not going to become addicted with acute pain, which this is. Pain is horrible, and it hinders your recovery and your PT. Take the meds AS DIRECTED. Like many reviewers said, he came into my room post surgery, told me how it went, introduced a woman next to him letting me know she's who I contact, and walked out. His bedside manner is horrendous. HORRENDOUS. He's not mean; he just seems indifferent. But it's not YOU. It's not your fault. THAT IS WHO HE IS. But if I ever needed another knee done, or a hip done, I'd look no further than Andy Yun. Go in with the understanding that he's not Dr. McDreamy and concentrate on the problem at hand, decide you're going to do the work and understand that he will not hold your hand or baby you, and you'll be fine. read more

My uncle who recently started to experience immense pain was told he needed to get surgery. He was referred by his primary care Dr. During his consultation this arrogant Dr told him "to grin and bear it". Your not bone on bone so you're not ready for surgery. Wow. Really? He cant sleep and is on strong pain meds trying to find relief and this Dr tells him to just suffer until it gets worse. My aunt who is an Angel on earth said even if he would do the surgery for free she wouldn't let my uncle go to this cold hearted surgeon. Didn't even get to see Dr. Yun because - after waiting 45 minutes in an exam room (where water was dripping down out of a lit light fixture - and my pointing it out to the office manager - who wouldn't give me her name) they still didn't move us to a dry room. Unsafe and stupid. They then take an xray JUST BEFORE they announce the MD does not accept our insurance. A week later I get a $400 bill for one xray. So why take the xray if you know the MD wont see us? When I asked her to explain - she got, cheeky, stated one word, "Policy - sorry" and escorted us out a back door with a chipper "Have a great day ladies!" Just ugly. read more

Just for the record it has been 4 years this October 2020 that Dr Yun operated on my knee and gave me a replacement. For The last four years I've done nothing but suffered with pain and tightness and it feels FROZEN and NUMB all the time. I've enquired several times with Dr Yun and all I get is that it will get better, four years later it's still the same, I don't know how long I can suffer. read more

Dr. Yun is the absolute best doctor if you need a hip replacement and I would give him 10 stars if possible! I had my hip replaced in August 2020. I was in and out of the hospital the same day. I experienced no pain whatsoever. I never took any of the pain medicines that I was provided. In fact, I never even took a Tylenol! I was up and walking within a couple of hours after the surgery and within another couple of hour's time, I was released from the hospital to go home! I followed a prescribed plan of physical therapy and I felt great! No more pain and I am able to walk and do whatever I like! Dr. Yun has the hip and knee replacement surgeries down to a science. Dr. Yun's staff are also very friendly and helpful, including Maia, Jason, and Justin. Just follow what the office tells you to do and you will be fine. I was very apprehensive to have surgery and could hardly walk when I visited with Dr. Yun; however, in retrospect my experience was fantastic and I would not hesitate to have Dr. Yun help me again in the future should the need arise. read more

I waited over three months to get an appt only to be bullied and talked down to by this man. When I booked the appt. I was told at the end of my appt. I could schedule my surgery. After my brief time with Yun, the scheduler came in and informed me they were not booking appts at this time and were not sure when they would resume surgeries. I was devastated as I was in tremendous pain. St. John's has been our family hospital for over 55 years. Five of my siblings were born there, eight grandchildren, and two surgeries for both my mom and dad. What has happened to this hospital? It no longer provides the care it once did. I did speak to a Dr. I know at St. John's regarding this, and he referred me to another place for a hip replacement. It is where St. Johns's staff goes said I would be better off there. Waited until my knee hurt to walk. Only pain for a year before surgery. After surgery which was a few months over 2 years ago. I can do most everything with my new knee. However, I just want to say a new knee is not like a real knee. It clicks and is hard getting up from the floor. I left physical therapy when I was past the measurements to stop. I exercise in a hot pool 5 days a week. My knee still gets stiff and is tight when I bend it back. The surgery was a total success. I just am disappointed it is not nearly as mobile as my other knee. I was expecting much more movement. At least there is no pain. read more

I've been trying to get into Dr Yun for months. He's done some people I know who rave about him, my primary care doc in Santa Monica wants me to go to him, but he's way too much in demand. I waited three months for the initial meet- that was mid September and I was told by him and his assistant that they were booked through October, but would use that month to book November and December , implication of course being that's when I would get in. They now say he changed his schedule those months and are now even more backed up. So I'd be lucky to get January more likely in February, as I am " that far down the waiting list"!!!! That's 5 more months of waiting and I'm in pain. The person on phone basically said I could go to someone else. My hip was broken 6 years ago badly and replacing it will be a much more difficult surgery. Yun really seemed like he didn't want to do it. Liability? Able to knock off a couple of easier hips in the time he would be forced to spend on mine? Now I have to start all over looking for a trustworthy hip replacement surgeon or wait months for a spot on the schedule while pain goes continues. Very upset. read more

Dr. Yun really did me wrong. I met with him in Sept 2023 and he assured me that I would have a surgery date in Jan 2024, and that I would be good to travel to France in April 2024. Then, in November, his staff told me I could not get a surgery date until summer 2024! If he had been more honest, I could have been looking for another surgeon and possibly got a much earlier surgery date. This surgery is so advanced and so safe, many surgeons in my area can do it. And I am talking to three of them. Dr. Yun is arrogant and too big for his britches. All my doctors say he is the best, but how many of them have had hip surgery with him?
