kinda torqued off about what should have been a 90-minute drive becoming four hours of wheel time…read morebecause AlphaBetCo started off showing me this venue right up 77 not way out west... but the map is only as useless as the folks publishing it so there's that :-\ the actual real life place is pretty impressive to behold: wall of glass is pleasingly reflective during the day but at night the lights shine through displaying the two-story lobby in all it's glory. our hotel backed up to the property so after dropping my lovely bride at the will call I went back and parked and walked over... yeah common sense! clean and nicely appointed upstairs and down, elevator or stairs to make the switch so you can come or go as you please. couple of snack bars on the main floor, and another for the balcony. no beer, no wine, just coffee and sodas and popcorn and stuff like that at reasonable prices so find your seat and relax... seats are a bit narrow but not horribly so, a gentle reminder to drop a couple dozen or so kilos :-\ acoustics are good and I can't imagine a bad seat in the house except the guy running the sound board tonight missed it "by-that-much" since the talky parts were fine but the occasional singy bit got clipped from the program... restrooms could use a little more room but that holds true of all venues... still not a bad night out and I got to sit in the balcony holding hands with my best girl all night :-)

It boast to be a 1500 seat concert hall but realistically it should only be about 1000 seats. This will keep me from returning. The flowers, the trees, the grapevines, the cottages and houses add to the ambience. Our bride described it as her "Hallmark" movie in real life. Guests and family enjoyed onsite accommodations making time for everyone to be together for the occasion. The onsite cottages and houses were in large part the reason that this venue was chosen. The entire wedding party and families were able to stay together and enjoy the weekend. Guests enjoyed dining at Barrel & Vine, the onsite restaurant and bar. It made it easy for everyone to enjoy the evening. The night before reception was quaint and beautifully staged to welcome everyone. The food from the restaurant and reception was outstanding. From the stuffed pepper appetizer and ham and biscuit to the pasta and chicken dish was delicious. All of the food was fresh and plentiful. The staff managed the crowd well and were professional clearing used plates and utensils off guest tables and replenishing tables. The Vineyard at High Holly reserved the property for the wedding weekend without other guests being on the property. I would recommend this venue for a small wedding that you would like to remain quaint and allow for the bride and groom to be present with their guests.

BLUF: A very impressive collection of Lionel model trains including a train layout with a few…read moretrains running. Although I like to joke that I am an LGB G scale purist, I was impressed by this collection of model trains which are mostly O gauge trains from Lionel. The display cases are nicely displayed and labeled and the plexi-glass was super clean. Plus, this is a massive collection! While many people will enjoy watching the trains zip around the large layout and pushing the buttons for the interactive layout, my husband loved looking for items from the B&O railroad while I enjoyed looking at models of my favorite locomotives. It was really cool to see models in this collection of some of the greats like Norfolk and Western J-611 and Union Pacific "Big Boy." For kids the museum offers a scavenger hunt but I think my husband and I would have had fun doing that ourselves! Admission to the museum is included with a train ride on the GSMR. We were able to visit the museum the day before our train ride by showing our ticket to the staff at the gift shop. We appreciated their flexibility in letting us visit the museum a day ahead of our train ride so we weren't rushed.

We recently stayed at a cabin in Murphy and we found this farm that sold grass fed beef directly…read morefrom their farm store. We drove over to pick up some steaks for the week. It is a working farm and the storefront is well marked. We rang the bell and a lady came out to help us. We selected some hanger steak, strips, and a sirloin. They offered a discount on frozen steaks while we were there, but also had a large selection of fresh steaks. We found the prices to be very reasonable. For the next three nights we had steak for dinner. I was truly impressed with the flavor profile of this grass fed beef. I am normally a grain fed guy, but these steaks were incredible. I eat hanger steak regularly and the hanger steak we had was the most flavorful hanger I have ever tasted. It was so good, that I went back and stocked up on 10 lbs to take home. We also found that you can purchase their beef online and have it shipped. Highly recommend if in the area and I will definitely be ordering some more steak once I go through this beef that I brought home. Awesome resource.

If you're in Franklin NC, I recommend stopping in to the Macon County Historical Museum to take-in…read moresome of the local history of the area. Entry is free and donations are appreciated. There are two floors with a lot to see, the creaky wooden floors are fun too. The left side of the museum is setup as a timeline dating back from the 1900's to 10,000 BC and showcases Native American and Cherokee artifacts. The right side of the museum covers WWI history leading up to the modern era. Volunteers here are friendly, welcoming, and will take time to answer any visitor questions. We didn't have a lot of time to spend in Franklin, so we had to breeze through rather quick, but I could have easily spent 45-minutes here looking more deeply into the stories behind many of the artifacts. Like Nancy mentioned in here review, there is a lot of dust in here, and she wasn't kidding. I wasn't bothered by it as much as her; however, she is allergic to dust and had to get out before congestion sets in; so, keep that in mind if you do stop by. All-in-all, great way to learn about the local history while in town but definitely needs a good dusting service performed throughout.
