Very delighted to find such a delicate and high-quality restaurant in the town of Mullingar. Walked…read morein on a Friday early evening at around 5:30 pm and was seated instantly. Still not much customers around, the atmosphere was relaxed, elegant, with soothing background music. Had the early bird two-course menu with a pint and a dessert. Pint of Guinness: well poured, the bubbling foam lasting a long time, very creamy and silky mouthfeel. Jack Daniel's Chicken Wings: fried to perfection, crispy on the outside but juicy and hot meat. The JD sauce was a pleasant surprise, with refreshing maple syrup taste and a bit of smokiness that is typical of a JD whiskey, while also having some pleasant spices. 10oz Striploin steak: added €6 to sub for this, requested medium. Steak was grilled to perfection, eye-catching grill marks, juicy texture, packed with beefy taste. Though I wish the garlic butter sauce could be made with a bit more salt, and the chips could use a bit more crispiness on the outside. Ice cream sundae: though the flavors were standard vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate, the taste was very rich and smooth. Service was friendly and attentive all over. Though with some small hiccups, this has been a very pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Mullingar, and try to catch their early bird menu if you can. t

We were looking for a place to eat in this town as we were going to see Irish comedian Tommy…read moreTiernan in a nearby hotel so we chose this town centre pub. It's on Main Street, it is like an old church or castle keep inside with some wonderful wooden floors and on different levels with a few stairs to negotiate as you go in and around. While Its charming I'm not sure it's disabled friendly, particularly with the toilets two floors down. We were welcomed literally as we walked in the front door, given our choice of tables to sit at, we chose near a front window down 2 or 3 stairs and our drinks order taken with menus handed over and explained to us, all with panache. Now we thought that's the way to do it right. We both opted for their buttermilk southern fried chicken supreme, which came with wonderful chunky chips, my favourite tobacco onions and a robust lemon pepper mayonnaise. Essentially we had an upmarket lightly seasoned chicken breast burger & chips with heavily flavoured mayonnaise from a jar, but don't get me wrong, it was beautiful tasty food with every element cooked perfectly, and we enjoyed it very much. If you are going to use mayo from a jar it really needs to be well flavoured as it's only a vehicle for other flavours. Everything on the plate was delicious, and most importantly done with thought and done well - this is a confident cook. I asked for and got Colman's English mustard, the worlds greatest mustard bar none. Service was great, seating cosy, the pub filled up with dinner guests as we sat and my cappuccino was very good too. It was obvious from conversations that some were regulars, which is also a good sign. We wouldn't hesitate to return here. Finally being a bit of a food snob and I self admit to being a general pain in the derrière there's two things I'd add. This chef is so confident (and skilled) why not make mayo in-house; a rapeseed oil mayonnaise would be marvellous, and it may just have been my misfortune but my chicken burger was served with a knife through the top with the tobacco onions held on the top of the bread bun, but this made the handle of my knife oily. I had to wipe oil of the handle and my hands as I started to eat. This is minor and a nuisance but hey-ho first world problems.

He recommended a few entrees. I ordered the beef medallions with onion strings. Loved it! My wife had the fettuccine with chicken. Both large portions. Don't forget about the FREE wifi.

I secured an online reservation last minute, and I am so glad we had the chance to dine here! Mourne Seafood Bar is in Belfast's City Center, next to Kelly's Cellars pub which was bustling at 9PM. Our oysters were brought out in 5 minutes; the mains took 20 minutes. In my experience, the service was standard. What we ordered: -1/2 dozen of natural oysters: This was my FIRST time ever eating oysters. I was pleasantly surprised of how fresh, non-fishy smelling, and non-slimy they were! I tried the oysters by themselves, then with lemon and Tabasco, which I find more tasty as they enhance the flavors. -Beer battered cod and chips with mushy peas and tartare: The cod portion was HUGE and piping hot. The cod was properly cooked, not dried out as other fish and chips eateries. The thick steak fries were crispy on the exterior and fluffy on the interior. I did not like the mushy peas as a personal preference. -Pan fried fillet of seabass: Absolutely delicious. The seabass was flakey with a crispy skin. Clams were properly cooked. Saffron mashed potatoes supported the fish. It was a hearty and balanced meal. -Rockshore cider: This tastes like your standard apple cider. It is crisp and sweet and does not taste like alcohol. Atmosphere/Layout: It is a very narrow restaurant that can fit maybe 40 diners inside. The tables are very small too. I would recommend having a reservation due to the limited space. It was warm inside, which is nice from the brisk, windy weather. Diners seem to be all locals catching up over a meal and every table around us had wine or alcohol.
