My wife and I dined here on a Thursday night while on tour in Belfast. It was recommended by our tour guide, and we were lucky and got in without a reservation. The ambiance, service and food were all excellent! I ordered the 16 ounce Chateau Briand filet cut, and finished searing the slices on the hot rock at the table just to my liking. The steak was excellent, and the experience was great fun! I paired it with a local Rye River Lil' Bangin' IPA and was very happy! Price was reasonable. My wife had the Chicken Supreme and also greatly enjoyed her meal. We would visit regularly if it was in the States! Will visit again when back in Belfast. read more

We only had a few days in Belfast and figured why not make one of them a steak night. The concept at Stix and Stones is somewhat unique. Effectively, you finish your own meats on a hot stone brought to your table. It is great for steak since you have no one to blame but yourself if it ends up over cooked. We decided to go with the 3 course theater option. What a deal! Honestly, I was expecting to drop a lot more cash for a steak dinner and figured they would have to make up for it by providing smaller portions, however, that was not the case. We started with mussels and the goat cheese. Tons of mussels in a tasty white sauce made my day. The goat cheese dish was just ok. We got a steak meal and a tuna for our mains. Loved them both. Then, we opted for an amazing Baked Alaska for dessert - great call and highly recommended. Service was on point. I appreciate how often they checked in, whether to see if we need more drinks or to ensure we were comfortable with our food. They never made us feel rushed nor did they intrude. As I mentioned, the price was well within line of expectations and the special was a deal. They did not skip on overall value at any point of the meal. I had gone to the place on a work dinner. The place has a good ambience to hang out with the team. I went for their 2 menu @ 15£ . The mussels was very good. Then I ordered the steak for main course. They have this way of serving the steak on a hot stone and we have to cook the steak on it for few minutes before we could eat them. All of my team mates loved it, but I liked it just fine. Wow, what an utter disappointment. Our food was all very bland. The 12 oz salt aged sirloin was tasteless - and quite expensive (26.95). The lamb was a little better, but the side dish of "Beluga Lentils, Green beans, Baby Carrots & Pancetta" was inedibly salty. Terrible disappointment. The hand cut chips side came drenched in mayo - why not serve the sauce on the side so it doesn't destroy the crisp chips? The best part of the meal was the banana dessert, but it was too little, too late. And we all smelled of grease after leaving. Will not return. read more

Went for Sunday roast at 5 right when it started. Ordered the beef roast but server had to confirm the still had roast. The meal was exactly what I was looking for,would have preferred the roast the be more medium rare... Visit started well - earnest & friendly servers. Good starter. Then steak came - 8 oz sirloin - couldn't slice due to thick layer of fat/gristle. When I cut that off, about 1/3 of steak gone. Server asked how I was doing, and I said this seemed like a lot of fat for a small sirloin. She looked upset & confused & went to talk to "kitchen," but I saw her talk to the man who seated me. He came over & explained that fat gives meat its flavor. I showed him how MUCH fat - he said "yes, that does look like a lot. But we do weigh it," and then left. Precisely my point - the fat should have been trimmed a bit before weighing. Way too much fat on a small cut of sirloin! Food was decent other than that, and vibe/decor was great. I left feeling a bit "had" in terms of paying for a quantity of fat, no apology, no attempt to make things better. I won't be back and can't recommend it. Too bad - wanted to love it. read more

So I was out here for a wee date night last week, it was mid-week and we were going to go to Solo to use a wee voucher, but the other half is fussy about atmosphere and hates being the only people in a place. Solo was very quiet (Not surprising for a Wednesday night) so we had a look in the other spots in the vicinity. I'll be honest I was edging for home but then we had a look a Stix and Stones and decided to give it a go as neither had eaten there before. Going in I love the décor, its that kind of Modern exposed brick look with comfortable seating and the odd touch if kitch (Porcelain ducks lining a wall, porthole mirrors etc) Its a very cool place. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head at the prices but it is city centre and I have to say the food was well worth paying the extra for. So we had a glass of wine each (Malbec I think, but it was delicious) and he got the Rump steak (Who doesn't love a nice piece of ass) and I got the fish of the day. Mine was cooked while his came out 'On the stone'. I loved the drama of cooking it yourself, the only downside is the smoke and the cooked smell that permeates your clothes after. The food itself was superb. Perfectly seasoned. You need to order sides, though we did one each and split it, (Cocannon crochets and Veg) which was perfect. The service was great and the food was great and I'm dying to go back and work my way through their unique cocktail menu! Being the creature of habit that i am, i ordered the same thing both times, the Calamari starter and the Mushroom pasta for main - both delicious! The starters are huge - you could probably just share a starter. I've never had a cocktail here but i noticed (with serious envy) someone elses cocktail that was served in a cork bottle in a bucket of ice. It looked amazing. Been here a few times, usually opt for lamb or steak on hot plate. It's a good deal if you go pre theatre at £14.95 for two courses. Sides are usually good too. My friend had seaweed battered salmon and cod last time and said it was v good but we just got hot plates this time. See pic. Wine is from £4.50 a glass and about 12 cocktails to choose from at £7.95. I didn't have one but there was plenty around and looked huge. The place is nicely decorated and staff are friendly. First time ever at stix and stones, sort of knew what the concept was but had no clue where the venue was, and what can I say!! Was well impressed not just with the food but with the decor and the customer service! From start to finish the staff were all professional and knew there stuff, we went for the pre theatre menu which was £16 for 2 courses or £19 for three courses which was excellent value, I went for a salad starter and a 7oz rump steak main (£2.50 supplement) and the wife had some fish starter which I can't remember what it was but it was very nice and the tuna for main and that was lovely as well, my starter was good, but my steak was perfect, was worried it would have been small but the side order of Cajun fries and the steak where perfect amount for me, can honestly say it was one of, if not the best steak I have had!! The staff were excellent, u could tell they were trying to push u to spend more, but not forcefully and where more recommending cocktails, desserts etc can say we will be back again and hopefully soon!!! read more

Visited here for the first time last night, thanks to Yelp and manager Stevie for giving me and hubby a voucher Have to say, it lived upto its reputation...I loved it! I was too overcome by the food to even remember to takes pics of the decor, but that's no bad thing I reckon lol! We were promptly seated on arrival despite not having a booking, and as it was just after 6pm, were offered the choice of the a la carts menu or the pre-theatre set menu (which we both chose) 2 courses were £15.95, 3 courses for £18.95! Bargain! Especially for city centre! Our server Orlagh (fantastic name ) and another girl which I regret didn't catch her name, were lovely, accommodating and when they heard it was our anniversary congratulated us and we're so pleasant!! Really nice girls! They even sent out a congratulatory dessert plate So...onto the food Hubby ordered 2 course (wimp) and I ordered 3 course (fatty) He had the Parma ham, tomato & mozzarella salad, 7oz rump (on the stone) with Cajun fries (with pesto, crème fraiche & cheddar) I had smoked salmon parfait, yellowfin tuna steak, hand cut chips with truffle mayonnaise & parmesan and pineapple Eton mess with a rum cream for dessert O.M.G!!!!! It was all delicious! I mean...gorgeous!!! The server Orlagh (again fantastic name!) explained to us how the stone worked, not to touch as it was 400oC () and that the meat was seared already, all we had to do was take it off, cut into bite size chunks, then place back on the stone for 30 seconds to 1 min depending on how you liked it I also had a cheeky 1/4 bottle of prosecco, and a stix mojito....which was damn fine! I would recommend this for the experience. You cook your steak on a hot stone yourself. I think I realized after I had finished that I should have just cooked it one piece at a time as I was eating it, but instead I tried to cook large quantities and it was a bit overwhelming to keep up with turning them and not keeping them on for too long. Booked a last minute table at Stix and Stones on Saturday and they managed to squeeze me in at 9:15 which this just shows the popularity of the place. From the moment you enter the restaurant you can smell sizzling steak cooking at every table. There's a real buzz about the place and it was really busy considering I visited on the first Saturday in January. One thing I immediately noticed on entry was how dark it was, we were seated at a table behind a partition and although it was private I felt like we needed a little more light. The menu has plenty of variety, as well as steak there was fish, chicken and pasta dishes. I went for the goats cheese for starter which was a perfect prelude to the Rump Steak. The staff were great at explaining the concept of the restaurant, when ordering they asked if we had been before and then they explained that when ordering steak they sealed it in the kitchen and you cooked it on a hot stone at the table. The cool thing about this is that it takes away any steaks going back to the kitchen because they aren't cooked to the customers liking. You can hear your steaks hissing on their way to you before see them which I loved. I love the whole experience of cooking your own food at a restaurant, it's a talking and a very tasty talking point at Stix and Stones. The hot stone cooks your steak pretty quickly so you have to be careful because before you know it your steak can become dry. One thing to note is that Stix and Stones don't have any beer on tap so I went for a simple Heineken to wash down my rump - I think they are missing a trick, a nice craft beer would be the perfect partner to their succulent beef. The staff were great, really polite and attentive which made our visit even more enjoyable! read more

New to Belfast and looking for a place to eat, had a recommendation to try out this place and were very glad we did! At first we were nervous about cooking the steaks on the table Infront of us, not wanting to ruin the meat of course! Our waiter was very helpful though and gave good advise on how long to keep the meat on the rock. The good was fantastic and the service was great, would happily pass on the recommendation to others! Our only critique was that we'd read online that there was a good selection of local beer, however when arriving we found this wasn't the case and they have stopped serving them. Welp. We are very confused on how this this restaurant has this high or a rating? Perhaps it's because it's a touristy restaurant and we didn't realize? They didn't know how to make basic cocktails, the staff told us the steak was ready to eat when it came t the table in the stone but it was still blue. At first we assumed it needed to be cooked more and saw other people close ping the steak on but we just listened to our server. The bacon mayo fries were literally jist mayo and fries and the service staff and kitchen were definitely on different pages when it comes to what it should actually be. Came here for my leaving lunch. Located on Upper Queen Street this place is really central and only a 5 min walk from City Hall. The lunch menu was extensive and catered for everyone in our Party. The waiter "Andy" was super friendly and really could do enough for us. The food was amazing and they even catered to the needs of my "picky" colleagues. I ordered the steak ciabatta and it was cooked perfectly. The food overall was great and the salad on the side was equally as yummy. Overall the service was great with the food being equally as good. I would really recommend this place. I haven't had a dinner so will be making a point of trying it out soon. In the meantime if you are planning a leaving lunch or looking a reason to get out for a bite to eat with colleagues - you should give here a go. We where really happy with this place read more

Great experience & great food!! I have been twice now for lunch & twice for dinner & all times have been very good! The interior decor is lovely...I like that you can see into the kitchen also! The staff are all very friendly and I like the use of a front of house to deal with sitting u at your table etc...enjoyed the bar men's uniform too.. Each of my dinner dining experiences I have always had a cocktail to start... The Jam Boy and the ruby lobster are both Delish!! I don't sound very adventurous but I ordered the same food on both occasions also...the steak that u cook on the stone at the comfort of ur own table! I loved this idea & I like my steak cooked med-rare so had great fun in trying this out! They use Kettyle Irish meat which I have had in other restaurants & I find all their meat to be of top quality. I thought I would stink of cooking after coming out of her with all the smoke from the hot stone but no I was pleasantly surprised (might have not noticed due to the amount of cocktails consumed in there after the food - which was great as we were not rushed off our table!) Customer service was just really bad, we waited on our food for over an hour, the food was okay. Calamari could have given us a heart attack because it was drenched in salt, using a fork to cook on the stone isn't ideal, need updated menus & not friendly for foreigners. Had to use an employee's phone to see the menu because they refuse to give their wifi password out to people who aren't from Northern Ireland. Took 50 minutes just to get water, just a rough night and poor experience. The desserts are also not good but deceivingly look great. read more

Myself and my Wife both had steak on a stone, it was unbelievable, the only issue was the staff were a little slow to take our order,

Because it was before 7pm, we were able to avail of the pre-theatre menu which is two courses for £14.95 or three courses for £17.95. The restaurant holds around 136 diners and was already filling up by the time we got there. For starters I chose the Chicken wings which were covered in a teriyaki sauce and crème fraiche salsa, and served with a cucumber salad. There were about eight or nine wings in the dish- so a great sized portion for a starter. The chicken was juicy and came straight off the bone. The combination of the spicy teriyaki sauce with the soured salsa was also really interesting and flavoursome. Barry chose the whipped Goats Cheese and Filo pastry starter, which came with pickled pears, quince jam and candied walnuts. Again, the different combinations of the flavours was something he remarked on- from the sweetness of the pears, to the slight tanginess of the goats cheese, there were top marks from him. For mains we both selected the 8oz Rump of Beef (although Barry was toying with the Seared Tuna steak which also looked lovely). The mains come with a side dish which include hand cut chips, creamed potatoes, red onion and olive salad, or quails eggs. We both went for the hand cut chips. I was so impressed when the steak came out- it was a large cut and extremely tender. To top it off, the flavour from cooking on the stone was gorgeous. Barry likes his steak rare while I am more medium/well, so it great to cook it yourself, exactly how you like it. The steak comes with side of pepper sauce and normally I would use a lot of sauce, but I felt the steak was so tasty that it didn't need very much. The stone stays hot for around 45 minutes so we were able to cook our steak bit by bit, just as the waiter had recommended. Finally for dessert, we shared the Chocolate and Hazelnut Brownie (which comes with Vanilla ice cream and blood orange foam), and the Caramel Panna Cotta (served with banana sorbet and spiced bread.) To highlight the brownie and spiced bread in particular- the brownie, which was served warm, was succulent and gooey, while the homemade spiced bread had a gorgeous familiar 'Christmas spice' taste to it. Overall, Stix and Stones didn't disappoint- the place was warm and welcoming, the staff (and in particular, David) were friendly, the stone experience is novel, and the food was top notch- and all at under £18 each! No doubt we'll be here again soon! read more
