I met Marilla herself, who gave me a tour of the small shop and explained how everything worked. This store carries several types of products. Bulk spices, coffee, tea, and candy; reusable/ecofriendly household products like soap bags and kitchen scrubbers; and big refill tubs of liquid items like face wash, hand soap, shampoo, and the like. They have jars you can purchase, or bring your own jar/container. Either way, the container is weighed and then you are charged for the weight of the product. There are fancier jars to buy for a few dollars, or use one of the recycled jars on the free shelf (they are cleaned and sanitized before being set out). Marilla also accepts clean, clear jars (no label) if you have them to donate. I look forward to refilling some household products here instead of buying one more plastic hand soap bottle or spice jar. Check this place out!

And then there's the wildflower collection. The violet and clover honey were my favorites, but the lavender, dandelion wine, and rise were great, too. And so pretty. The shop is bright and welcoming. Service is excellent. You can even make your own selection for gift boxes in different sizes. For now on, this is a must visit when I'm in town. They also serve their own small batch ice cream next door.

A perfectly normal cardboard carton of vanilla ice cream from Wegmans. I said "no, let's get real ice cream", typed "ice cream" into google maps, and was led here. Hedonist ice cream, my friends, is not Wegmans. And I'm not knocking Wegmans - it's perfectly normal ice cream with a ton of ingredients I can't pronounce for purposes of preservation. Hedonist ice cream is so much more than a cardboard carton of ice cream. They have a rotating menu of flavors, all made fresh and in-house with no preservatives. I have never met a cookies n cream ice cream I didn't love, so I went with that. Mom had a salted caramel ice cream that was fabulous. I paid for both of us since the ice cream was my idea. She was shocked at the 12 dollar total for both of us. "That's three things of ice cream at Wegmans!" But at Hedonist, it's absolutely quality over quantity. Even my mom admitted it tasted better. She wouldn't go back there, and I may not because I live 400 miles away from there, but if I was in town again and I was screaming for ice cream, I'd happily make my way over there again.

After this event I attended another party at a friend's where 20 people were sickened after consuming hot chocolate made from this cacao and almond milk. Others at the same party who used the same batch of almond milk in coffee and as a beverage were fine. We were told, after the fact, that they had purchased the same cacao that we did. We should have been tipped off by the unclean appearance of the worker at the booth but we see a lot of people who look exactly the same there so at the time it didn't phase us

But that's changed (or maybe I just misunderstood!), and now anyone can shop here. Prices are a bit higher about $2-$5 more than other grocery stores depending on what you're getting, also know you're supporting a community focused, local business. It's not a huge place, but they've got a solid selection of essentials, and some nice specialty items too. There's even an outdoor area if you want to relax with a snack or a drink. Staff is pleasant, friendly and helpful. They have private parking lot! I'll definitely be back.

A great neighborhood, and it's decorated outside and has some amazing murals so you can't miss it. I wish I had thought to take pictures. Will do it next time. Bring your own bags. Parking was easy. The aisles are nice and wide. They have small baskets that roll, making it really easy for someone with disabilities to shop. Their meat section is all frozen, which is fine. Today I picked up a wooden Christmas ornament, a birthday card, lavender soap, a facial toner, and candle melts from Light My Candle (a local Roc candle maker that I love). I really wanted to buy the rainbow coffee mug, but sadly my mug cabinet is bursting full. The owner, Connie, is super sweet and clearly loves what she does. Support local, women-owned, and Black-owned, all at the same time. And, there's a sweet shop next door!
