This was a nice Andy's and I really enjoyed my selection. My boss is from Missouri and my husband is also born and raised in St. Louis although we now live in Virginia (where I'm from). While here on a family vacation and a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks, I knew I had to try Andy's bc it's like an institution here. This is a nice, large location and we picked a good time to come bc there was literally no line at all and we walked right up and sat and enjoyed our ice cream while no one else even showed up mid-afternoon on a pretty warm June day. I chose the Cardinal-themed flavor with cherries, toasted almonds, heath bar and maybe one other thing. It was SO good. I actually inhaled it when I only planned to eat a little of it. Yummmmmm. This place gets packed and filled with interesting characters of people . Is the ice cream worth standing in a hour line for definitely not but is it a classic lake staple yes it is . The food here is nothing special or anything that ya haven't seen anywhere else before . The staff here are pretty friendly but you can tell they would quit any chance they get . I came here on our trip to the lake in June and in July . This is by far the best frozen custard or ice cream I have ever had. I get the bootdaddy concrete. It is so creamy and delicious with chunks of Oreo. It is always totally packed and the line was super long. Service is really fast though. I've always enjoyed coming to visit family in MO due to the time with family and a visit to Andy's. Generally, they are very accommodating regardless the crowd and I've never been disappointed with my order. Until yesterday. I noticed a generally occupied place very empty this time. The young man who took my order seemed relatively new at his job and seemed to struggle, especially when I made a size change. As I pulled to the window, I could hear others in the back "voicing" an issue because an alteration that had been made in the order. A lady came up to ask about our order, I stated the size of the first had been changed and everything else was the same. When I received my order, one of the orders did not have the requested almonds. I asked where the almonds were, I was responded to with a raised voice by the young man at the register questioning if they were ordered. I responded they were. The sundae was taken back and I was up charged $1.30 for the extra almonds. Generally, to me this is not a big deal. However, the general lack of professionalism and willingness to make an order right without an inconvenience or extra expense to the customer speaks louder about the service of Andy's now as to compared to the way it use to be. I know there's another one up the street. Maybe I'll try it next time. ADDENDUM: Before sending this, I thought it best to contact the branch and explain the situation. Better to suggest a critique than just post it publicly. I was told that there were so many mistakes made by the employees, I HAD to be charged for the missed almonds on the order to infringe to loss of money that night due to mistakes. I would rather walk to Randy's with no shoes on in 100 degree heat than ever come back to this location. Everything that our family got was excellent! Highly recommend the key lime. My son got a strawberry shake and it was wonderful as well. Only (semi) downside is they have limited flavors if you want a cone. Otherwise you are forced to buy (and eat) a pint. read more

You will be full faster than with frozen yogurt or FroYo. This store has a walk up window or a drive thru. If you go through the drive thru you order at the window, not the menu board. A good chain Frozen Custard spot that started in the area. Portions are larger than you'd expect - so if you're stopping for a snack between meals, stick with small. The Jackhammers are awesome, although if you have sensitive teeth you'll want to stay away from those with frozen fruit in them (or fruit that will quickly freeze like strawberries). read more

Way better than Randy's, the BootDaddy is one of the best custards I've ever had.

The custard here was the best I have had anywhere hands down: it has the perfect sweetness that I like. I got some sort of Oreo, hot fudge caramel yumminess. The small is a very generous portion, keep that in mind. I'm not sure how they compare to Randy's...but if I'm ever in the area again I don't think I will get to try it because ill want to go to Andy's only. read more

Ok, I read the statements that Randy's Ice Cream is "number one;" I bought a sundae there. It was ok, but the physical facility, to be blunt, was not noticeably clean. So, 2 days later, I gave Andy's Ice Cream a chance. It was superior in every measure! Andy's has excellent ice cream in a fastidiously clean setting and even offered me, a senior a 'child' size if I wanted it. It was the perfect size for a treat, although they DO have 2 larger sizes. I fell in love with Andy's when my sister went to Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, MO. My family is full of frozen custard snobs, and this one runs a close second behind our true love, Kopps, in Wisconsin. Luckily it's a solid #2 and worth a trip every time we visit SW Missouri. When my husband and I took a trip to the Ozarks over the weekend, we were (I was!) ecstatic to find out there was a location near our resort. We got lost a few times trying to find it, but it was so worth it. The custard is creamy and smooth, and with an endless assortment of toppings and options, everyone can find something they love. This is not the original frozen bustard stand at the lake. It is certainly the nicest though. They have a wider selection than their rival down the road but it seems a little bit more expensive. One of my favorite things about this place is their specialty seasonal items. Case in point...blackberry concrete. It is amazing. Of course the standard for frozen custard is the Ozark Turtle. Don't get the mini, it's too small for the price. The regular is where it is at and is probably enough to split. If you like custard, roasted pecans, and hat Carmel and chocolate then you will love this.
