Incredible that I have not Reviewed Andy's much sooner because this is where I come for everything. They have helped with making bad padlocks work and getting a key for a padlock without one. If you've got a problem lock bring it here first. Everyone here is always nice and genuinely helpful. Recently I needed a new battery put into my cars key fob. Last time when one failed, I looked up directions on YouTube and replaced it myself. I have a 2020 Forester. Maybe other fobs have easily replaceable batteries, or maybe the directions I followed weren't good enough for me. I got it done after at least an hour of fighting with it and a couple disastrous moments when a tiny spring popped out of view and could easily have been lost forever. It was a double miracle because I found it both times. But I swore I'd never do it again. This time I brought it to Andy's and I think about $4.50 covered the battery AND installation. I am forever grateful to know they do this. read more

I have been to Andys Lock and Key 2 several times to have specialty keys made. The latest visit was on December 4 this year. We needed to have a key made for a donations box at the small non-profit that I volunteer at. The young gentleman who was running the front of the office did all he could to try and get a blank that would work. Please keep in mind that most of these small donation boxes are made in China with a very thin and very cheap key. He researched the information online but had to resort to looking at all the possible blanks. When he found the closest match, he cut the blank and handed it to me saying, "Try this out and if it works, come back and pay us." While I was very hopeful as it looked like it should work, alas, it didn't. It was just a bit too thick. If we lose the only key that we have left, we will just need to replace the box. This place is great. I highly recommend this business. The staff is courteous, attentive and they looked like the liked the challenge. I brought my safe to have keys made that had been discontinued by the company that made the safe. I had taken it to some other locksmith in Reno and they couldn't make keys for it. So I brought it here hoping they would be able to do it. First, they came out to my car and carried it into the store for me. that was very kind. The moment it was placed on the counter and I told them what I needed, the gentleman started working on it. I had to leave it at the store which was fine with me. I had a good feeling they would succeed, and sure enough within the hour I received a call that they had made two keys for me. The price was very reasonable. This place has the keys and remotes you need. I've tried 3 ACE hardwares, 1 Home depot for the type I needed and no luck. I walk into Andy's and bam they had it, made it and they had a happy customer. I didn't even have an odd key. read more

Boy was I wrong about this place. I went in to get a key made for Honda Civic and they did not have one in the store, but the Reno one did. I got a call today that it made it over to the Sparks store and they could make the key for me today. They close at 5pm, I got there at 4:50pm. Now I am from a generation where making a large sale was worth staying a little late. This salesman did not. It would take 15 to 20 minutes to cut the key and he was not willing to stay. Now if you are open to 5, and a customer arrives at 10 minutes to 5 you are still open. Not at Andy's. They don't care about the customer, just getting out of the office at closing time. It might just be me but I was rather disappointed and will not be spending any more money there. read more

These guys have helped us rekey locks before. This time, they assisted us with house locks on an older home. Did a great job and even suggested a security door instead of extra deadbolts that would not be helpful. Very reasonable and we'll use them again. No hesitation. Stopped by 8 minutes before opening time for some duplicate keys (not just one). A guy was sitting at the counter playing with his phone, so I knocked. He didn't raise his head and bellowed "you got 10 minutes dude" (?!) No, no my friend I don't have 10 minutes, I replied "Looks like I'll go somewhere else..... Dude". Rude to say the least, rude and lazy. I went to Shelly's and got what I wanted, and I didn't have to deal with pokey and rude. read more

I went into the store on Pyramid Hwy. as I have done for years when it was owned by Andy himself. My experiences were always top notch. Now , under new ownership, I was treated so bad by the owners son, that I will NEVER be back for ANY of their services again . I didn't appreciate getting yelled at to leave just because I forgot to wear my mask. As I was leaving I said " ok never mind , I don't need to to do business here then". He yelled at me with vengeance to never come back. I can guarantee you that neither myself, my family, nor my friends will ever be back again. Thinking I would give the owner a call before writing this review, the owner's son answered the phone and asked what the call was in regards to. I asked again to speak to the owner and was told that it "wasn't going to happen", after he found out that it was me on the call. As a business owner myself in town, I would fire any employee that would not let one of my long time customers speak to me for any reason, weather he's my son or not! Made an appointment to get a doorknob replaced. Person i made it with said it would be from 2pm to 2:30pm. Called the day of the appointment to confirm the time and the nice person who answered said yes it was from 2pm to 2:30pm. Went home and waited and waited on my lunch break for them. At 2:40 i get a call that they are on their way and would be at my house in 20 minutes. Told the person that was not the time of my appointment and he argued it was from 2pm to 3pm. Miscommunication later, i'm still on the hunt for a locksmith. read more
