Let me tell you, I was utterly wowed the very first day when Rick and his son, Alec, came to give an estimate. At that point, the water was not turned on due to missing valves on the faucet pipes. Rick was kind enough to put the valves on for me so I could have water (and toilets!) for the week until he could come to do the entire job, which was so incredible. All you have to do is watch Rick and Alec for 5 minutes or less before you realize you are in the presence of greatness. I do not say that lightly. Rick is clearly at the top of his field and absolutely knows what he's doing. Alec is very blessed to be learning from his dad and it's clear he's picking it up very well. I am so incredibly impressed, I honestly cannot rave enough. I've worked with many contractors and wannabe contractors over the past several months, please allow me to confirm this is the most professional, knowledgeable, and incredible team in Horry County. I wanted to add one more thing: there was a scheduling delay due to a legitimate emergency on their part. The plumber replaced a gas line. He then sat in his truck for well over an hour claiming he had to wait for the gas company to come out to ensure there wasn't a leak. Dominion Gas indicated they wouldn't be able to turn the gas on until the following morning! It took the fellow no more than 1.5 hours to install an above ground level gas line. Yet, I was billed for 4 hours of work at $125.00 per hour!! Even if I agreed to pay for the 1 hour plus he sat in his truck the cost should still have been significantly less! I verified with the Dominian Gas Company that there was no need to remain until they came out since the gas was off and they and only they could turn the gas back on the following morning! This isn't about the money! Not at all! We are talking about the disgust myself and folks like me have to endure when hiring people to fix things only to receive a bill that is inflated and then lied to when it is questioned. I'm hoping this only happened to me and others weren't subjected to this type of nonsense. I'm so angry about this that I've done my homework, and should appear in small claims court to argue my case. As I said, the actual parts and labor associated with this gas line repair appear to be legitimate and this $564.00 ($500.00 at $125.00 per hour for a seriously inflated service charge of 4 hours will be paid without delay. I don't have the time nor the energy to argue what I believe is absolute thievery of a consumer. Some will think this is a bit "petty". Maybe so; however, it's simply a matter of principle. Be certain you're paying for a service received that is fair, honest and legitimate.
