We stopped at Mejia's Bakery while passing through town looking for a quick lunch. At first glance,…read morethe place almost looked closed--it's very unassuming from the outside and located in an older strip-style row of storefronts that gives off a bit of an old-west small-town vibe. Don't let that fool you though; once you step inside it's clear this is a very authentic Mexican spot. The interior is long and narrow. On the right side when you walk in there are bakery cases filled with a wide variety of traditional Mexican pastries and baked goods. On the left there's some seating and an ice cream area, and further toward the back there's a larger seating section that looks like it's used for their buffet (which we were told they offer on weekends). We visited on a Wednesday, so we ordered from the counter instead. The people working there were very friendly and welcoming, and the prices were very reasonable. I ended up ordering a cheese quesadilla with fries. The fries were actually excellent--crispy, salty, and exactly what you'd hope for. The quesadilla itself was okay. In fairness, this is clearly a place that specializes in more traditional Mexican dishes, and I probably didn't order the thing they're best known for. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food and pastries, this seems like a great local spot and it's definitely worth checking out. If your taste leans more toward American-style Mexican food, you might find the menu a little different than what you're used to. Overall, a friendly local bakery and restaurant with very fair prices and a lot of traditional options.

Flour tortillas fresh, hot and charred...delicious! We got some things from the bakery to take with us, can't wait to try them. They have a Buffett at lunch on certain days, so sorry we missed that. I think it was Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday.

The staff is friendly, the service is excellent, and the coffee is on point! They have everything you could want coffee wise and more. My wife had an strawberry vanilla Italian soda that she said was one of the best she's ever had. I had a vanilla latte with oat milk (hot) that was skillfully prepared and delicious. The only thing I cannot review at this time are the baked goods or the gelato; yes, gelato! But I wager they are top quality as well. If you find yourself going through Childress, TX Ballyhoo is a must stop for you!

It was during last week's Arctic Blast, but that didn't slow them down. We got the warmest welcome when we walked inside ~ greeted immediately with a bright shining smile and "Hello! How are you?" We saw on Yelp that they had 5 stars, so we thought this is the perfect local business to pop in for coffee and breakfast. Unfortunately, they do not cook up food anymore except for an assortment of pies and sweets. I wish it hadn't been 10am on a holiday week or I may have scooped up a few to try. They looked so darn good! As they made our coffee order, a latte and a breve (basically a latte with half n' half), we putts around the store. They had a collection of cute and cool things: candles, cards, mugs, soaps and so much more. We were in a bit of a haste with being hungry roadtrip travelers so we couldn't look for long but it'd be fun to go back when we had more time. While we headed out, I asked if there was a place they'd recommend for breakfast - an easy stop and pick up spot. They couldn't be happier to recommend another local business as the must-go place. My husband, who grew up in a similar small Texas town, really found this to be a cool moment and I'd agree. So after leaving their shop with one of THE BEST breves, we followed their driving instructions which led us to one of the THE BEST breakfasts! To say, we're incredibly grateful for Ballyhoo is an understatement. They are making the world a better place for travelers, locals and passerbyers with their Southern hospitality and charm!
