Straight up, there should be a book called "How to Run a Successful Operation in Pittsburgh" and…read morethere should be a picture of this place on the cover, along with a case study. Always packed, always impressive array of beer (one of the best breweries in region, IMO), and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. The site is so vast, there's never a shortage of seating, you just need to do a little bit of exploration to find a spot, but there's fun in that. Still trying to get to the upper command level - might need to head there during non-peak hours. Oh, I forgot to mention that each day/week there are a handful of beers and drinks that are super reasonably discounted - incredibly appreciated in the economic hellscape that is 2025.

It was very busy and we needed to use the overflow parking. Due to the frequency of the shuttle it wasn't a big problem. Upon entering we were able to get a seat at one of the bars. They have a list of weekly $5.00 beers. I had a Chameleon pint which is an NE IPA. My wife had a Krisp pint. Both beers were very tasty and we enjoyed. The views are impressive as is the space itself. I was very impressed and this would be a great place to visit with a large group. We didn't eat here but may consider it in the future even with a basic menu. This is definitely worth a visit as there were all ages here enjoying the brewery.

I'm not the biggest beer person, but I could see myself becoming a Back Alley Brewing regular -…read moreespecially as the weather improves and the outdoor seating opens back up. They're located in Dormont, which makes this a walkable brewery for me (thanks to having friends and family in the area!). A friend and I did indeed walk over to catch up on a recent Friday. The place was surprisingly quiet - my friend mentioned that they get VERY busy during the summer, when people attend events across the road and want to buy beer to go with their market and/or food truck purchases. Speaking of food trucks, Hibachi Lou was parked out front on this particular Friday. So my friend and I got our hibachi orders at the truck out front; ordered our beer and/or cider from the bar; and took everything to a table in Back Alley's dining area to enjoy. While the place wasn't packed it wasn't empty, either; families and groups of friends were playing board games at every other table or so. So, what did I think about the drinks? I'm really glad Back Alley had Arsenal Cider on tap - I ordered a glass as my "sweet treat"/dessert after dinner. First though, I decided to try a beer. Back Alley, if you see this: I'm a BIG fan of sour beers and would order those if they're on the menu in the future! As of now though, no sour beers, so I ordered a "Snowed In" - Back Alley's spiced winter ale. It was a dark beer with a blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, hence the "spiced" moniker. While not something I normally seek out, I really enjoyed it and am glad I tried it! Altogether, it was a 10/10 experience - I'm so glad my friend and I came here for our Friday together. I'll be back!

They also have a big menu for drinks at a pretty reasonable price. I was surprised about how many people were there for an early dinner on a Thursday, must be a popular local spot! We had the smashed fingerling potatoes, it was pretty delicious and I liked the ranch that came with it. There was a lot of toppings on top too! For my main, I got the seafood risotto. It had shrimps and bay scallops. It had a generous amount of seafood in it. By then I was full but they had good sounding desert, including a GF Bundt cake! I wish I had saved some space for it. For my drinks, I had one of their speciality mules: Maggie's mule. It was kind of too sweet for me.

And served piping hot and stayed hot (how do they do that?). Drinks: good but nothing special. Great selection of local tap beers, local spirits left a lot to be desired. Two vodka options and neither are worth drinking. I didn't bother looking at whiskey as PA doesn't have any worth anything. Service: absolutely terrible. Sat for 15 minutes with no attention. Finally had to flag down the host and it still took another 5 minutes. Complete amateur servers. Never checked back after meals served and server spent all her time socializing with other employees at the entrance. No management on site it appears - it shows!
