We've adopted two incredible dogs from this rescue. They are honest, have true and accurate assessments of the animals, which I appreciate as a mom feeling like I can trust them.

We have just finalized our adoption of Prada (now known as Pepper) a 2 year old Labradoodle. AAUPR is very concerned about the quality of life and placement permanency for their adoptees. Their approval process for is not typical and is designed to ensure a compatible match between the animal and adopter. Also, the animals are treated to physicals, shots, spaying/neutering, meds if needed and vaccinations. They have a loving and capable group of foster parents which further shows how much they

I found a dog from Angels Among Us on Petfinder, I was worried about being from out of state but they made the process so smooth and easy! I had never adopted through a rescue before but everything was so organized and the communication was very clear. I am so thankful for my new girl Elle (formerly Ethel Mertz)! I would 100% adopt from Angels Among Us again!

We have used Angels Among us 2 times now and had wonderful experiences both times. Our first dog Skye has been a great dog, and now River is his buddy and they play so well together. The foster parents were terrific in both cases. Alida L. was River's foster mom. These puppies were abandoned at a very young age and Alida raised them until they could be adopted. She brought our puppy to our house and let us come to her house before we adopted our little guy. It has been a truly wonderful experience to have worked with this organization.

Max was rescued from Angels Among us rescue in Alpharetta, GA on 4/19/19. They made the whole process smooth from the application, to the home visit, to his neutering after 6 months old. He's the best present I've ever received. He's such a sweet, loving, kind, & cuddly boy. He saved my life & I don't know where I would be without him. Dogs are wonderful & we don't deserve them. If I still lived on Atlanta or the East coast I would definitely adopt another dog from them.

I had a wonderful experience working with Angels to adopt my dog! The overall process was very smooth and efficient. Big shoutout to the fosterer! She really helped make the transition go smoothly! thanks Angels!

I have had a truly wonderful experience in my adoption process with Angels Among us pet rescue. The staff members, the volunteers and the foster Moms are really caring and invested in the process of finding all those "angels" in need of homes the right family and the best fit. I adopted my dog from them and from the interview stage to the actual adoption, I was always able to reach someone quickly if I had any questions. Also, foster Mom was the best- she made the transition from her home to mine so easy - I am so appreciative. I just love my Luna Elara. Please keep doing your awesome work of getting those vulnerable dogs and cats into caring and loving homes- they need you and the work you do.

What an amazing experience. The communication throughout the process was excellent. Then we get home with our dog and feel like we won the lottery. The foster knew so much about the dog's personality, quirks, etc. Plus, she had him on a schedule which made the transition so easy!

My experiences with Angels had been wonderful. I have adopted two dogs through Angels, and I'm currently in the process of welcoming a third furry companion into my home! One of the aspects I truly appreciate about Angels is that their primary concern is for the health and well-being of the dogs. They also work diligently to match pups with families that will care for them as they deserve. Angels offers a wonderful variety of dogs, including stunning mixed breeds and some purebreds. I've developed a particular fondness for the Australian Shepherds as they are such intelligent and lively companions! In addition to helping with the adoption process, Angel's checks in throughout the first year to help ensure a smooth transition for your family. I feel as if I'm becoming part of a community that values both rescue and placement in addition to family adjustment. I wholeheartedly recommend Angels to anyone considering adding a four-legged friend to their family!

We adopted our sweet beagle, Millie, from Angels Among Us. The organization is fabulous. They were so helpful and thorough throughout the entire adoption process. We just love Millie and have become friends with her foster mom and her dog! I would give the process and organization higher than 5 stars if I could! We are beyond grateful for our new amazing addition to our family. Thank you Angels Among Us!!!

I am so glad I used Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. They really care about making sure that the dog is right for you and you are right for the dog. Trust the process. I got quite literally the perfect dog for me. I absolutely love him! Both my vet and the dog trainer I am going to have praised Angels Among Us as one of the "good" rescues. The fosters in this program are the best, and I highly recommend them to anyone!

I also drove up to their compound and looked at the cats there and it made me sad, they were in small plastic "kitty condos" - and it is a very nice facility but they could have made larger cages with all the money they spent. I grew up with a shih tzu and have been thinking about getting one for almost seven years now. I found "Kirby" on Petfinder, sent a link to my husband, and we were both smitten! I emailed to inquire about him and Lisa (from Ruff Rescue) got back to me that night. She said that she had rescued Kirby from animal control on the day that he was scheduled to be euthanized. He had kennel cough and an ear infection, but he's doing better now. I still can't believe that anyone would give up such a sweet boy - the vet thinks that he's between 1-2 years old and he's house trained. We hit the puppy lottery! We completed an application and did a meet & greet before officially adopting him. His adoption fee was $250, which was more than fair considering that he was neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all shots. It's obvious that Lisa has a true passion for what she does. We're so thankful to Lisa and Ruff Rescue for doing what they do, and trusting us with Kirby the tzu!

All their medical and dietary needs are taken care of. They are constantly observed by the staff and hundreds of devoted volunteers so if one looks to have a runny eye or cough, they are checked out by a vet tech and/or make a visit to the vet. Finding good homes for good kitties is their motto and goal, however, once a Good Mews cat, always a Good Mews cat, so those who are not adopted, have a safe home for life. Pregnant mothers and kittens are taken into foster care so they benefit from human interaction. Many people drop by on adoption days just to visit with the cats and kittens. Good Mews has certain standards they follow, such as an Access Agreement for all visitors, however this is for the well-being of the animals and the humans. At other shelters, the animals are all in cages so personal encounters are limited. With a totally open environment and about 100 cats at any given time, it works best when everyone understands what to expect. I adopted two kitties there in 2014 and they came with a full medical profile. All Good Mews cats are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, tested for diseases and vaccinated. A special effort is made to socialize the more timid or aggressive cats so they have a better chance of being adopted. Advice is provided to adopters to help the animals make a good adjustment to their home and family. Good Mews also sponsors events at the shelter, such as Reading to Cats for kids and Yoga with Cats for adults, and other special activities throughout the year. It has taken me months to write this because it was one of the most demeaning volunteer experiences I have ever had. I joined Good Mews in January 2026 as a volunteer and was selected for the medical committee, my first-choice assignment. I assisted with evening medications including pills, eye drops, and special diets--basic tasks that did not require a veterinary license. I have worked in both animal and human healthcare, own six pets, and completed five weeks of volunteering without a single correction or complaint. On my final shift, before I even entered the building, I was pulled aside by two older white female volunteers--one I had never even met--and told that, after "internal discussion," I was no longer a fit for the medical committee because of my fingernails. My nails had been the same since my first day and had never once been mentioned. Instead, I was told I would be "a better fit" for the cleaning committee. Imagine being a Master's-educated Black woman, lifelong cat owner, and healthcare professional, only to have two volunteer cat ladies decide you belong cleaning instead of providing medical care. I was devastated and am still affected by that experience. The situation raised serious concerns: 1. I was discussed and evaluated without my knowledge. 2. I was removed without prior communication or documented performance issues. 3. Standards were applied inconsistently, since nothing about my appearance had changed. 4. The tone and handling of the situation felt dismissive, isolating, and racially motivated. As one of the only Black volunteers I ever saw there, I could not ignore how this felt. I emailed the Executive Director detailing my concerns. Rather than addressing them, she simply upheld the volunteers' decision and again encouraged me to join the cleaning committee. I then emailed the Board of Directors. One board member met with me for coffee and acknowledged that Good Mews struggles to attract younger and more diverse volunteers. I left hopeful that the situation would be resolved and that I could continue volunteering. He said he would speak with the volunteer leadership and get back to me. That was in April. I never heard from him again. The volunteer who ultimately removed me had been passive-aggressive from my first day. Within minutes of meeting me she said, "There's a code to the front door, but we'll see if you stick around before I give it to you." After five weeks I still had no door code or name badge. Although the medical tasks were straightforward, I was shadowed for weeks. On my fourth week another volunteer took over my "training." Her first question was, in a condescending tone, "What do you feel you need to improve?" When I politely explained I felt comfortable with the routine but would ask if I needed help, her demeanor changed immediately. Throughout the shift she repeatedly inserted herself into conversations and hovered over my work despite my having demonstrated I could perform the tasks independently. As a healthcare professional, cleanliness matters to me. I wore gloves, changed them between cats, and regularly disinfected the medication area. Meanwhile, I repeatedly watched the lead volunteer clean urine, feces, and vomit with her bare hands, manually express a cat into the medication room sink without gloves, and simply rinse the sink with water. She even told me not to worry about cleaning because it would be done later. On one occasion she had cat vomit on her face for over 30 minutes after cleaning it up. Those conditions were honestly disturbing. I adore the cats at Good Mews, and I sincerely hope every one of them finds a loving home. My criticism is directed at the organization's leadership and volunteer culture, not the animals. There are many wonderful shelters in the Atlanta area that deserve support. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Good Mews. I believe I was treated differently because of my race, and after exhausting every internal avenue--including the Executive Director and the Board--I was ignored. I will continue sharing my experience, and I've included a photo of the "too long" nails that ended my volunteer position.
