Janet from Critter Sitters really saved us! If I had imagined the perfect kitty sitter, Janet Green of Critter Sitters surpassed it. She was everything I hoped for in a sitter and more, going above and beyond my most hopeful expectations. She was responsive, dependable, friendly, knowledgeable, flexible and all around wonderful. I can't begin to express what a relief it was to have Janet watching our cats when everything else seemed in chaos. My husband and I were trying to navigate a trip to help my elderly mom after knee replacement surgery (the day before elective surgeries were halted due to COVID-19) and had the trip extended unexpectedly when we realized she needed way more recovery time. When I had to change our first meet and greet due to my flight getting canceled five times (due to the pandemic) she was understanding and accommodating. When I finally got back (for just one day before returning to my mom) Janet listened attentively when I introduced her to our three kitties and when I showed her the medications for our elderly cat, asking great questions. When we were gone she visited our kitties twice a day, every day. She sent the most adorable pictures after every visit so we knew our cats were being looked after, along with detailed text updates and even occasional videos of them playing.Her messages were a ray of sunshine in what was otherwise chaos. If all that weren't enough, she found a better way to give our 19 year old IBD cat his twice daily medication AND she gave him his subcutaneous fluids. We used Critter Sitters for many years, through multiple pet sitters, multiple pets, and multiple homes and always found them to be professional, reasonably priced, and attentive to the needs of our pets. Recently our pet sitter through Critter Sitters retired and we met with our new sitter one time. Everything seemed fine and we were scheduled to go out of town and had confirmed with the new sitter employed by Critter Sitters that everything was in order. Yesterday I asked for clarification about the billing since it seemed substantially higher with the new sitter over what we had paid previously - in response, I have been told that the sitter's schedule has changed and that I should seek care for my animals elsewhere. With little more than a week's notice, this was very unprofessional and disappointing to say the least. I've tried to communicate my experience to the owner of the company but the line has been busy for some time; will update this review if new information becomes available but sadly, I can no longer recommend this business and would seek care for pets elsewhere. Update: the owner responded and while appreciated, I find the way this situation was handled by Critter Sitters very unprofessional. I can include the text conversation for reference as I did not negotiate: I asked a question about a price difference between two different sitters employed by the same company, a difference of over 300 dollars. The only "policy" I see enforced or followed here is poor customer service. read more

Amanda Brand has been great. No matter how many fur balls we add she is up for the fun. Never had an issue and if an issue comes up regarding the kids or the home, Amanda takes care of it. I had the strangest of pet sitter experiences and certainly the most negative when using Critter Sitters. My first visit was actually great. They did a thorough questionnaire to ensure adequate support when you are away. I requested just one visit for my cat during a long weekend. I received update, pictures, and things were in order when I returned. The sitter was well prepared, thorough, and knew how to handle my cat. Not one day later, however, I received a long text message from that sitter detailing their financial distress and asking for advice. I really didn't know how to respond after using their service just once. But, I thought I'd give them another try and request a different sitter as this may have been just one individual. After an earnest apology, I met with the director and went through my pet intake again for cat visit. I showed where everything was located and discussed my cat's guarding behavior as I had done before. I received the attached message from the director after three visits without any attempt to contact me or my partner who lives in town. I have a seven-pound cat with capped nails, mind you, photographed below. He is up to date on vaccinations. I really struggle to understand the intent behind such a message and why it came at the end of my requested service. I most certainly do not recommend. read more

Sadly, my experience with Critter Sitters was disappointing. Called on Monday to have a sitter assigned and come over for getting to know our pets. The sitter contacted me promptly and said they would come on Tuesday. So far so good. That Tuesday, the sitter had some issues at work, so couldn't make it, offering to "meet tomorrow" instead - fine. They didn't visit on Wednesday either, because they somehow mixed up days of the week, so they offered to come on Thursday - fine. They didn't visit on Thursday either, because their car unfortunately broke down. Though this was a random event, someone from Critter Sitters was supposed to call me promptly, because we were leaving on Friday. This didn't happen after several hours, so I called myself. I spoke Carol, the manager, when she apologized for the situation. It turned out no sitter was available anymore, so we were asked if we can make other arrangements. We did - we went ahead with boarding our pets elsewhere. It seems that this is not the typical experience here. Personally though, the multiple reschedulings (which I was fortunately fine with as I work remotely, but most people aren't in such a flexible situation) and no follow-up on Thursday after Critter Sitters decided to look for another sitter, especially when we were leaving in less than a day, was disappointing. read more

I ended up using only once mainly because we haven't had a chance. But even if we do have a chance, I'd look for other services unfortunately. Pros: Service itself was great. Conversation started smoothly after online request submission. Cons: The particular person who said they (blaming a specific person is not my intention so making anonymous as possible) are covering my area didn't take electronic payment. While it's up to the service server I guess, these days where so many other services accept electronic payment methods it's a huge usability loss to me. In fact (it's 100% my fault though) I forgot to leave a check in the room then I had to mail a check. Then, turned out the address they sent to me was wrong so the mail was returned to me so that I had to resend with the correct address. With electronic payment this level of overhead would have not happened obviously. read more

We are so thankful a service like Critter Sitters exist. After finding out our cat has diabetes we hired Critter Sitter to come administer the insulin shot when we are away or out of town. She has to have it daily, in the morning and evening after she eats and our current sitter, Alex, is very attentive and respectful of the specific schedule. He always provides detailed updates and has given us a peace of mind that our kitties are in good hands. I started the service in April 2015. My work day including drive time from Norcross to Perimeter Mall was ten hours; I didn't want to stress myself or the dogs. Everything went smoothly. I retired but continued to get contract work, so I'd work three months, be off for three months, like that. I would use the service during the periods I was working. Sometimes I would need the walker for only one day. She would even feed the dogs if I requested. On Wednesday night Aug. 1st I received an email stating that a contract job I had applied to weeks before was beginning the next day. I texted the walker first thing Thursday morning. No response. I texted again at 1:30pm (the job was 3:00pm to 11:30) and she said her schedule was full through Sunday. So I sent this text: "What am I supposed to do? I didn't find out until 10 last night. What about the backup lady?" Do you believe that text to be inappropriate? The office said later that the dog walker felt it was "angry." Anyway I get no response to the text. There had been a backup lady who did walk my dogs on occasion. So I called the office on Saturday and asked the same question: what about the backup lady? The office lady said she'd find out. Getting no response, on Monday I called the office again, leaving a message. Shortly thereafter the pet walker sends this text: "Critter Sitters and I are unable to meet your expectations, so I have been instructed to return your key." Expectations? I texted her requesting dog walking service. And yes I expected her to take the assignment, for which she would get paid. Is that unreasonable? I wasn't asking her to fix my plumbing or paint the house. I spoke with the regional manager who said that the backup lady had moved. You mean my dog walker and the office lady didn't know this? Another thing: according to Yelp, Critter Sitters had three other walkers who lived closer to me than my assigned walker did. But it couldn't have worked out better. I retained the services of Gwinnett Pet Watchers. The primary walker and her backup came to my house together to meet me and the dogs and get the keys. These ladies further advised that the office keeps one of the two keys so there would always be backup, even on short notice, and even if they were both unavailable. Gwinnett Pet Watchers has 18 walkers in the general area and a five-star rating on Yelp after 50 reviews. With Gwinnett Pet Watchers and another local company I contacted, 2 Paws Up, the customer creates a computer profile which the service can access. Accordingly, as long as the office has your key, they can deploy any of their walkers to accommodate your needs, even on short notice. In response to comments posted by the owner, Jeffrey Lauterbach, to my review, I met his walker exactly twice: the day I gave her the key in April 2015, and the day she returned the key on August 7th. I never once spoke with her on the phone; all communication was via text or notes I'd leave on the counter. So I'm not clear on how I "continually demonstrated a pattern of abusive behavior over the 3 years during which she provided service to you, often apparently set off by our inability to accommodate your last-minute requests for service." Was it other "angry" texts perhaps? On the day she returned the key, her car was parked directly in front of me. I expressed my amazement that she could drop everything and drive to my house to return the key but couldn't fit in 15 minutes to walk the dogs four days earlier. And yes, I did tell her in rather frank language that I was extremely disappointed. Was she expecting flowers? Readers, judge for yourselves. Though I met the woman only twice, I get the impression that she's like Laura in "The Glass Menagerie." Do you really believe there were three years of abusive behavior? And listing my full name on the Yelp site by Lauterbach is beyond inexcusable and likely in violation of their guidelines, though I certainly have nothing to hide regarding this company and will reply to any inquiry sent via the Yelp email. Read the other one-star ratings. In most cases Mr. Lauterbach has posted responses that are "angry" in tone, outrageously self-serving, and "abusive" towards former unhappy clients. As newer and more efficient pet walking services enter the field (and with Mr. Lauterbach's incredible "we are never wrong" attitude) Critter Sitters and its obsolete business model will soon be left in the dust. read more

I have used critter sitters for 10+ years, first with our Yellow Lab and now with our 2 kittens. Andrea has been professional, courteous and kind. She is great about bringing in the mail, putting out the trash, feeding and playing with our pets. It is comforting when we are away to know our animals can stay in their own space and be cared for. It is good to know we don't have to board them. It is also nice to know someone is checking on the house while we are away. She came and met the animals and took notes before she started. She has back up phone numbers in case something comes up. She always checks to make sure we are back in town safely before she stops services. She followed thru with any special requests, like medication, that they needed. Would highly recommend this agency to anyone. read more

Arrived home from a long international trip, after no contact from the sitter, to find no food and water out, cat litter had not been cleaned once, and the front door was unlocked. I had never had anyone come to my home to Take care of my pets. I called critter sitters and an angel came to my house. Her name is Billy McDowell. She was wonderful and the dogs loved her. Critter Sitters saved my sanity! Before finding them, I had two very bad experiences just trying to hire someone as a result of a last minute trip. They answered my message I left immediately and we're so comforting in reassuring my animals would be in good hands. They sent a really nice young man to our place to meet our four little ones. Very laid back and easy to talk to, that meant a lot for a crazy animal mom like myself. We had purchased a camera to keep an eye on our pets not the sitter, but we were able to see all the time that he spent with our babies, how long they were out playing with him, and the patience he had feeding my problem doggie. Not at all satisfied with the service we didn't get from Critter Sitters. After it taking them 4 days to return our call after we had explained how our trust in pet sitters has been stretched to the limit after our nightmare experience with CutiePaws, the lady who finally returned our call starts off by telling my wife that there is no way they can stay at our house for the thirty minutes that they originally told us the $24 we would have been paying would cover. And then to top it all off she tells us that their service "is not a right fit for us", and we should look for a newer pet sitting service that is not as busy because "there is no way that I could get to every client in one day". When my wife would try to talk the kept cutting her off and talking over her in a condescending tone, and then proceeded in hanging up as soon as she'd finished what she wanted to relay to us. What a waste of time. Pet owners need to educate themselves on how pet sitters in general are carrying out their promised duties when the pet owners backs are turned. I do not recommend this company. She made the process very easy; the morning I left town I just dropped off my keys in her mailbox and they were there when I returned. Melissa is the BEST Pet Sitter EVER !! We couldn't get our pug Frasier to learn any new tricks, the only thing we could get him to do was "sit." Growing up, Sharon (who is still with the company!) watched my family's Olde English Sheepdog, so I knew who to go to when I planned my 8-day vacation from my new 4yo Maine Coon. Within two hours of filling out the Contact form on their site, Kimberly reached out to me via phone and email (when I didn't answer the call). She has been super flexible and open to my changing plans and, although I found a friend who lives in my apartment complex to watch Sherlock the Cat in exchange for a 6-pack, I plan to contact Kimberly the next time I go out of town!
