We finally found a trainer who could help us help our dog, or help our dog help us!! We do private lessons so far, and Eli has become much less suspicious of us. Our situation is one of necessary veterinarian care as a pup, but that lead to Eli being suspicious of us and over sensitized due to his ailment. After a couple rounds with not quite the right-fit training, we found Teri and the Angels and we are on the path of understanding. Angels in the Making is a dog training school led by human Teri Thomas, who I am pretty sure is part dog. She truly approaches all of her training, and her one-on-one client visits, from the viewpoint of the dog. She knows and understands dogs so well that her job is to teach us humans, who are not part dog like Teri, to understand our dogs, their needs, and how they think. Training our dogs from this standpoint allows Teri, and then us, to train them to be wonderful, well-behaved, content, happy members of our family. And beyond the basic training, if your dog has a special circumstance that needs to be addressed, she does amazing work in her one-on-one sessions. When I talked to her once about my dog needing to drink more water due to concentrated urine, Teri asked where the family and the dog spent most of our time and also the location of the water bowl. I told her we spent our time in the family room and the dog's water was in the kitchen. Teri said that the dog did not want to leave us to go get a drink of water. I added a water bowl to the family room and have been shocked at how much our dog drinks from this bowl.....the bowl where her family is. There is no doubt that Teri Thomas is the best and most knowledgeable dog trainer in town. She is very down to earth and personable, and is very reasonable with payments and even defers them at times if money is a problem for a poorer client. Her training tips work wonders on any dog and her classes are amazing. You can tell she truly loves and cares about dogs and animals in general. What sets her apart is the fact that she shows owners how to train their dogs without force, prong collars, shock collars, choke collars, or other nonsense like pack hierarchy/dominance theories. Her knowledge of animal behavior and how they learn is extensive, and she uses the most up to date, cutting edge, and scientifically sound methods that appeal to every dog's willingness and ability to learn. When dealing with problem animals, she treats the underlying cause rather than the symptoms. She is the ONLY trainer I would trust my dog with. She is very similar to Victoria Stillwell and casts aside the dated, harsh, and inaccurate training methods Cesar Millan and other force and dominance based training.
